Anyway awesome episode. Toph is fantastic, as expected. Mako still kind of bores me. It doesn't feel like he's really changed at all, character wise. Bolin has done a complete 180 and I love it.
Oh well, it doesn't really matter. I'm still ready for the Makorra reunion.
A military dictatorship is right? No, not really. She is right that Wu should not be in charge. She was right that he'd just be a figurehead to exploit. And she is right that she did more to help than wu ever would. But at the same time, a military dictatorship is a bit much.
I liked Korra Alone and all and it was a good episode, but I don't think I enjoyed it as most people did. Does this one at least really get the plot moving?

Episode wise, I like it better then Korra alone pacing wise. It did a good job of balancing each side story and conversation. Korra alone was ok but it felt like they had to stretch material until the end there.
I'm actually interested alot in the line toph dropped in the episode
basically saying yea so what Korra is the avatar, there are people everywhere willing to get down in the trenches and fight the good fight. I hope that is the direction they are going for Kuvira instead of evil dictator.
Mako and Wu
I liked what they are doing with Wu and I'm wondering if they are working on a sort of redemption for him to be more then a little shit
Bolin
SOOOOOOO glad dude put up a fight for being pro Kuvira, it showed a bit of maturity which is good since it's been about 3 years since the last season. I hope that they also draw on the fact that people like Kuvira because she is actually handling shit instead of liking her because they are "deceived". Don't have too much faith in a morally grey character from this show but well see.
Team Wu forever. Believe in his divine right to rule. All bow before the supreme light of our glorious leader. Wu will be vindicated. Wu will succeed. God bless and love.
Based on Mako and Wu's scenes towards the end ive got this feeling Wu will do something that will earn the people's support. Has anyone photoshopped Wu with Kuzco and Kuvira with Yzma from Emperor's new groove yet?
Overall I liked the episode and interested where the spirit vine plot goes. Toph was also great. I only wish they could let Kuvira's points and actions stand without those little lines like "I always get what I want", "those in our way will be crushed" & "then Raiko knows what's coming for him." It would've made the exchange between Bolin and Mako at the end much more interesting.
Yeah ... this is the first time since the beginning of the season where I've felt genuinely worried about the progression of events for the rest of the series. Korra side I think we're fine, we get some insight on why she's lost her mojo and hasn't been able to make a full recovery while setting up a path for eventual comeback. It's all that stuff happening outside of the Korra bubble that has me worried though.
1. Kuvira and the King - The biggest problem is that Kuvira is not wrong in her reasoning for doing what she's doing and this fact conflicts with how heavily the show seems to want to make her the villain. Mako outright says it, the King has done absolutely nothing for his people since the collapse of the Earth Kingdom and in the vacuum left behind by the missing Korra, Kuvira's stepped in and stabilized the region.
Why should I in anyway be sympathizing with the King and why is the show trying to push me in that direction? Why, In a world where Monarchies are still an ever-present entity in this world (Fire Lords, Earth Queens/Kings, Water Tribal Leaders all being heredity based), do they seem to be getting the moral highground? Why is an "Empire" lead by a strong leader who actually knows how to control her people "bad" and a King who'd effectively be doing the same thing "good"? Given how the King's reacted to Mako's speech (a sort of subdued acceptance of the scenario) I can already see the inevitable scenario play itself out where the overreaching "bad" Kuvira is squashed and the humbled King with a new outlook on life retakes the throne. And that's really gonna suck.
2. Varrick and
The Spirit Angle - There's no way this is not gonna suck. It's obvious I think that this is going to be the breaking point where the writers are going to convince us that Kuvira is the bad guy that needs to be stopped and we'll all agree because it's going to lead us into something dumb like her trying to blow up/conquer/enslave the spirit realm/kill the Raava spirit. I was hoping that this character stayed comic relief but they seem insistent on bringing him back into the fold in a more substantial way.
If anything this latest series of events is giving me flashbacks of Book 2. We'll have a decidedly less boneheaded avatar maybe but it'll be wrapped into a scenario that's trying to push far too many angles into a single story arc at once. We have Korra and her recovery on one side, Kuvira and the politics of the region (sup Water tribe civil war) on another, and Varrick will be coming in with the
spirit angle
to tie it all up. And again we'll find ourselves in a situation where our character's are left with no time to really "breathe". Avatar is at its best when its taking a break from the action and allows its characters to live within the rich world they created and right now I'm feeling assaulted on all sides by plot plot plot plot.
We'll see in any case but this latest episode raised a LOT of red flags for me.

"Bolin won't talk. And if he does, I'll kill him. Mako, Prince Wu, the whole bloody lot of them until you and I are the only people left in this world."
Bolin's reaction to stuff struck me more as wanting to convince himself more than actually being 100% convinced of Kuvira's altruistic intentions.
He strikes out at Mako because he's "reacting" to the doubts that he himself raised before talking to Kuvira, he wants to believe that he's on the right side of things and making a difference.
God bless Kuvira, going to free the shit outta Republic City with her spirit vine WMDs. I heard Satch's squeals of delight from here when Kuvira said "I get what I want."

Veelk gonna have a conniption when he sees that Korra
is still solely concerned with getting back into physical shape when she has the option of becoming attuned with the entire world available right in front of her.

Sitting at the doctors office getting another round of chemo (last one then get a couple weeks off of rest). But I thought this post summer up a lot of my own thoughts on it. I hope that Kuvira isn't evil to be evil. I hope they don't devolve the plot into her supporters being tricked (or if she does turn out bad) they still supported what she was doing or her ideas prior.
I'll write more later. Going to rewatch this later. But episode was pretty good. So far the season is just as good as Book 3 for me. I actually like the groundwork (Kuvira and the earth kingdom) better then I did Zaheer in the early episodes (although Zaheer and their break outs were fun to watch).
