Fighting Games Weekly | Oct 13-19 | The World Ends Ryu

People in the FGC really need to be living more healthy. Even if what you do isn't physical stress on the body, a body that isn't in a healthy state can get fucked up bad from various mental states.

A friend of mine was telling me a lot of LoL, DoTA, and SC players have all started taking better care of themselves with exercise among other things. Though random shit is random and can and will happen sadly :(

I fucking can't stand hearing about people passing away *mildly depressing so don't highlight if you don't want to read that.*
I FUCKING HATE THE FACT I AM STILL ALIVE yet people that have done more with their lives and can do more than I ever can pass away frequently. I would trade my life away in a damn heartbeat so friends I've had and my sister could still be around. I hate how random life is. FUCK this is why I'm a fucking organ donor .
I feel you. People in the fgc should be striving for a bit more healthy life style. They will see results in their play and in life as well.

The fact that life can be random is why you should cherish why you are alive. You still have time to do something and who knows maybe the fact that you are alive can make a difference for somebody. NEVER wonder why you are alive cherish it and do what you can do.

Working out makes you better at fighting games.

Truth!

Yeah, look at low tier god

shoutouts to team eg for making a wise decision of sending ricky ortiz to monterrey for the mexico tournament and k-brad to resistance so they won't have to compete against each other for capcom pro tour points.

blade symphony is like $4 on steam right now, anyone played it? It looks like a fighting game but I don't know what the level of jank is
It should be free for the weekend, so you can download it and try it out. I actually bought the game in a bundle but haven't played it yet (of course)... now is probably as good of a time as ever.

Yeah, try it out if you haven't. I've played it for 4 hours this weekend

Now, there is definite jank, but it's mostly brought up by the game having almost zero tolerance for button mashing. It felt like modern Blade of Darkness, and if you don't know that, imagine Dark Souls with directional attacks and over-the-shoulder camera.

I went through the tutorial, tried practice room for a few minutes, and then got my ass whooped online in what I perceived as complete messes rather than actual fights. THEN I spent over half an hour learning my character's moveset, since my character had felt so slow that he'd never be able to survive under pressure of light, quick pokes.

I was wrong, I had just been mashing buttons and getting punished for missing my slow but high priority and damaging attacks. I learned that charging an attack doesn't give you simply a stronger one, same with changing between your 3 stances, light, balanced, and heavy. You will likely get an attack for an entirely different situation. My win/loss ratio turned nicely over 1:1 and all those victories felt good and earned. There were mind games involved, careful footwork and precise timing. Some gambles too, I have a circle slash that seems like it ends early, provoking a possible back attack, then continues with another slash.

tl;dr: It's a bit janky and perhaps robotic, but once you learn your character's move set and capabilities properly, the feeling is just washed away by performing a planned parry that takes away 80% of enemy health (in Blade Symphony, parry means that moment when your swords hit each other. Heavier attacks win)

I played I think about a dozen hours of it last year. It was somewhat janky, but the real problem with the game is that it's entirely centered around poking/footsies while you have full analogue control even while attacking. This wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the fact that for some reason timeout always resulted in a draw. I felt like there was no way to get around someone just running back throwing out swings, so I went up against a few of the top 100 ranked players(out of about 10k at the time).

After a couple hours of this, I was votebanned from several servers because even against the well known or highly rated players just ended up timing out and drawing against me. Every offensive maneuver was telegraphed enough that they were easily avoidable if I wasn't over committing to counterattacks.

I have no doubt that some counter tactic or patch would have solved this eventually and I won't pretend like I was amazing at the game, but it seemed to be pretty shallow. I haven't checked out the game in about a year, but it seemed terribly boring and somewhat badly designed to me.

since there is a talk about fitness, if anyone wants some info on it, there's a fitness thread with all the info and people you could possibly need to help you on your journey.

People just gotta go dumb and accept the consequences. Beating Fuerte is 50/50, dems the breaks. There are better ways to go dumb than others though, so just learn those ways.

I hope that's the case, I thought going dumb was the solution but it only slimmed my chances of winning. I had to guess what he was going to do to even stand a chance to beat him, suffice to say not even that helps. I still lost the majority of the matches, it was really hopeless once he got me in the corner... Spamming ex green hand when I was expecting the worst helps tho

Just so you know, EX Green hand loses to EX Q bomb. Was watching Snake-Eyez stream and he was salty too as he almost lost to one of the WNF fuerte players in a FT3. Said he doubted his chances against him if he got Pepedey in the tourney too.

Yeah I don't even know bro. That matchup is bad bad bad.

It's alright with Ken though. Kara throw, meaty, DP can fuck Elf over on wakeup. His command normals can screw Elf's spacing too I've found.

Such a great time to be a fighting game fan.

SF4 still going strong, new BB on da way, new GG on da way, Ultimax just dropped, Skullgirls is 5 bucks, KI getting new shit, new Mortal Kombat on da way, a freaking Pokemon fighting game coming up, da GOAT Smash 4 soon, new Tekken.

Like damn this genre used to be dying.

Ono might announce a new game at Capcom Cup.
LOL

For real though, I was just thinking of how good of a time it is to be a fighting game player in the southeast. Between KiT (Jan), FR (Mar), CEO (Jun), and TFC (Oct), there's something worthwhile to travel and look forward to at pretty much any time of the year.

Too many games out right now to focus solely on fighters. I still have to play the Evil Within and there are a few new releases I want to play. Destiny is pretty mediocre by standards it's ripping off of but for some reason I'm having too much fun with it. The nice visuals and soothing soundtrack helps.

The KI update tremendously makes the game look a whole lot better I think. A huge boost in resolution and it looks sharper and more vibrant to me.

What console are you playing destiny on?

Only a matter of time before marvel gets that patch

Ahhhh, I just play Dan in that matchup. That shoryu too stronk. Been honestly contemplating about picking up a third character since Gief is my main, Ryu is my second. Might have to pick up Cammy just to deal with BS.

Now all we need is the icing on the cake, a marvel patch.

Edit:

Silky beat me to it so hard. Booker T don't kid with his scissor kick.

It's been some time, I'm sure you've figured it out by now, but basically it is saying they are unable to verify the validity of your card because the information provided does not match any registered card with their identification service. The possible remedies are to re-enter your information, or contact your credit card company.

Japan is kinda backwards when it comes to using credit/debit cards. Who knows if they will accept cards from your company or from outside of Japan.
yea, I got it, but thanks anyways
it's unfortunate that I can't see Topanga league :(

Morons don't realize funerals are super expensive. Cheapest you can is around $5k and that's really pushing it. On average, it's double that. The average working class wouldn't be able to afford it and I doubt based on his age his family has something like life insurance, SS or 401k to fall back on.

Sorry man. Topanga is the best SF play you'll ever see. I hope they do more events with foreign players. I'd love to see Smug or Snakeeyez go in these long sets against Japan's best.

oh no clue was playing GG the whole time ;P

There was a period where 3d fighters ( and smash bros ) were doing super well and way better than 2d fighters. This is commonly referenced as the "dying period" for this genre, when its not really the truth.

Not to mention KOF 11(don't talk about MI). But so long as Street Fighter wasn't getting annual revisions, fighting games were dead apparently.
