You manage IntSys: Advance Wars 3DS or Fire Emblem (Awakening 2)?

On one hand, Advance Wars hasn't had a single entry in over 6 years -- and the last entry left the series in an unclear point as far as its identity is concerned. On the other hand, Fire Emblem is on a momentum, with Awakening having been a great success, and Smash Bros. having promoted the series' characters in a rather loud way.

If it was up to you, which series would you bring next on 3DS? I have very little doubt that there will be both an Advance Wars and another Fire Emblem game on 3DS -- especially now that it's lifecycle has been extended through the revision. But for the sake of conversation, let's say IntSys would only have time for one of them.

If I managed IntSys, I think I would go with Fire Emblem. The opportunity is too good to pass on; the series is quickly climbing up in the hierarchy of Nintendo franchises. It has the potential to become even more iconic and successful, but that window of opportunity isn't going to last forever. I think "Awakening 2" (or Chronicles / Reckning / Legends / Whatever), directly succeeding the first game seems like the way to go. Throw in Lucina as one of the main characters, and they will have the interest of many people.

Personally though, I'm more hungry for a new Advance Wars -- especially if it was like the classic ones. A game with a similar narrative to FEA but a more "cartoony" premise is something I could get into.

Fire Emblem all the way, I like Advance Wars but Fire Emblem is god-tier. Hopefully a new story rather than Awakening 2 though.

Business-wise? Fire Emblem

What I want? Fire Emblem

What will happen? Fire Emblem

There's no way they won't try and ride the Super Smash / SMTXFE wave further.

I was just telling myself about how much I wanted a new Advance Wars, so this is very easy. I miss the series so much.

Plus, while I love Fire Emblem, I hated Awakening, and I'm sure the series will follow its direction from now on. Nothing wrong with that, it's a successful formula, but it doesn't do much for me.

This late in the generation, I'd rather wait for a new Advance Wars title for a new handheld. A release title Advance Wars would be so good.

On another note, why hasn't there been a Wario Ware 3D utilizing the 3D effect?

In before SMTxFE.

Honestly, I would bite into either game. I only started actually loving the Fire Emblem series with Awakening, and it's been a few years since the last Advance Wars. If I were in charge of IntSys though, Fire Emblem is more in the moment, which is likely why they've been quiet for awhile (likely working on the crossover)

Awakening 2 makes a ton of sense, in my mind.

I think making Lucina and the children---in a "fixed" universe---the main stars would be the obvious route to go, I even thought it'd be neat to have a Link Bonus. Like if you buy the game outright, the characters have canon designs and parents...but if you have Awakening Data, they then have the parents from your Awakening Data.

Then throw in a healthy amount of new characters to date the children for Generation 3 (re-use the time travel plot, it's contrived but it works for the game), and have the original generation from Awakening as secret characters.

It might not be a popular opinion, but I don't think a follow-up to Advance Wars would be a good investment of their resources. I just don't see how a cute war strategy could potentially reach a wide audience similar to FE:A. It's stuck in its niche. Creating a new IP that could potentially reach a wider audience would be a better idea in my opinion. I just don't see any potential in Advance Wars anymore.

And, looking at Code Name STEAM, this seems to be what they are doing anyway.

Advance Wars.

You monster.

How am I a monster? ;_;

You can make a solid downloadable game. I just think Advance Wars is more linear in its progression and thus more "direct" than Fire Emblem, and as such it can feel more in line with previous games by being a downloadable.

I kind of put Advance Wars in the same category as Golden Sun. Two GBA franchises I would love to see more of, but I totally understand why it isn't happening.

*sigh* I guess an Advance Wars without FEA's narrative would still be better than nothing. Actually, I'd have no objections with it even if it were a low-budget production. Just do something with the series. It pains me to see it so still. T_T

Advance Wars. Better to make an amazing AW, hope it gets popular and then alternate between the two franchises so that neither gets stale too quickly. If we just get FE after FE the formula could get boring, but AW is just different enough to be worth a shot. And yes, make a real Paper Mario at some point too!

People will hate me for this, but I was really unhappy with Awakening. FE4 is one of my favorite games ever, and I really liked a number of the other FE games, but they were at their best when they minimized the RPG elements and emphasized strategy. Awakening takes the opposite approach. So I personally think it would be refreshing to see a new Wars game; it swings to the opposite end of the spectrum, being pure strategy.

That said, pretty excited to see how STEAM turns out.

I'm sorry. Just when I hear that it sounds like toned down game. I know not all games are like that.

I just want a retail AW game. ;_;

New Fire Emblem. And not just because I'd stab every sodding one of you for a direct sequel to Awakening.

Where would they take the story?

The Future Past was the only plot that would have really made sense, and they used it for the expansion pack.

It will not be a direct sequel, mark my words.

I think AW is a dying franchise, Fire Emblem is a more profitable and fan acclaimed series to go with.
It's pretty telling the franchise didn't even get a character in Smash. Especially when you consider the fact that Sakurai looks at which games are in development at the time the roster is decided.

I prefer Fire Emblem, but I don't want more Awakening.

Go back and use the Tellius games as a template instead. Or remake FE4 or 5.
