PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | October 2014

720p is the default. 1080i is probably there only for those crappy TVs that don't support 720p for some reason.

TOTP go buy Miku already

I thought maybe it'd divide better by the vita's naitive res. 720p + my TV's upscaling seems pretty alright though. My monitor's is worse, predictably, but it's satisfactory all things considered. Actually Vita-native res 2D content looks pretty great, it's mostly aliasing the looks worse due to the scaling.

How far did you guys play?

About 2 or 3 hours... right when I thought I was digging it despite how basic it looks and feels, and it was getting going, it switched up on me and I was a ball somewhere else, doing whatever, feeling annoyed - it broke the chain of endearment I had developed, and I was just bored with it again, not enthused. The map design felt scatterbrained... like the amiga, Putty Squad version of Metroidvania level design. The spastic character movement and navigation that you liked and called speedy/fluid, is one of the things that feels sloppy and floaty to me. Different strokes, I guess.

Me not wanting to play it anymore is part of the reason I wouldn't recommend it.

The only thing sort of like that which I noticed is that if your PS4 is hot, the fan will not turn off no matter what you do. You can turn off the system, put it in standby, idle it, whatever - the fan will keep going until it reaches a pre-designed temperature then it stops.

Are you living in a really hot area?

Naw, it's actually insanely cold here lately at night. Like I said the fan just comes on for a second, not even, and then goes right back off. And as I said, the system is completely turned off (power cord is still connected but the system is properly shutdown, hold PS button, turn off etc) I also use an electric duster to clean it out every month or two.

I hate NepReb. Everytime you think you're doing great, near the save point, enemies get infected and wreck you. It's so very dumb.

Vita 3000 with L2/R2 buttons. That would close the gaps for optimal remote play and PS Now. Improve the WIFI component as well. I would play most of my PS3 games on PS Now. Having such a great experience with it.

Infection is no different from Mk2 or Victory. Just watch for enemy types that can be infected, it's very few.

The only Neptunia game I've played before was the first one for the PS3. Loved it to death, but at that time, when they announced Mk2's lily rank system, that turned me off so I gave up on the series.

You have one day, you shouldn't delay it any further.

EU here so I still have until wednesday but...

Just do it.

...yeah, I will. :D

Wow, SK Versus is so ridiculously much better than Burst. Won't even bother finishing Burst or looking at SK2.

I actually still prefer the side-scrolling, but the rest is pretty superior, yeah. SK2 seems to improve quite a bit from what I've seen and read, so I wouldn't ignore that one completely just yet.

Gonna buy a copy of ys tomorrow at the local gamestop and I was wondering if I should nab anything else as well. Can anyone recommend a must have game or accessory for vita under 20 bucks? For reference, my accessories so far: 1 8gb card, 2 4gb cards, pdp trigger grip, carrying case. My games: P4G, DW8, Unit 13, Killzone Merc, Toukiden, Sp'lunky.

I've had some rather minor fights with the camera in Versus so far, but I'm not sure I'd prefer the same combat but in sidescrolling. with fully realized 3D models I generally prefer a 3D movement too, so while I adore 2D, SK isn't the sort of game I'd prefer in it. I guess I'll keep a bit of an eye on SK 2, but unlike Estival for PS4 it's probably not a lock.

It's pretty minor in practice. It's a bit annoying for the platinum but even then not very bad. Most lily rank bonuses are minor to the point of being near-useless, and the + XP ones are pretty low-rank.

Since people have been talking about X/X2 vita lately... The games were split up in some regions right? Is there a physical english version of X2?

Yes, Asia got both games in separate retail SKUs. I have the X-2. Content-wise it is identical to the western versions.

There is a physical english version of X-2, but only from Asia.

Sounds good. Will probably look into that at some point. I think I can get the X/X2 US bundle cheaper than a single X from asia, so I'll just import X2. Something to keep in mind. My asian english copy of SSD is still sitting unwrapped on my shelf. I'll get to it one day.

if any fellow VitaGAF really wants those games in physical, I can probably help with purchasing (and mailing them to you)

That's really good of you! Will keep it in mind. Thanks

Interesting thing about the English X-2 release, I believe it's 100% the exact same game file that's on PSN in NA, because downloading the digital version (from the voucher that was in the NA release of X) overwrites and replaces the physical copy's install bubble... I have other import retail games that don't do that with their digital counterpart, like New Little King's Story.

I don't understand why companies don't just open an online store for these things when all they're gonna do is upload the same damn thing onto a cartridge. Digital future hurts me.

They also cost money to buy.

There's a rather high initial cost that makes producing physical carts/disks rather impractical for anything that's not guaranteed tons of sales. Unless some revolution allows unit-by-unit production of physical games with virtually no overhead or oversight, don't expect small or mid tier games to have many retail releases. And...don't expect that revolution either.

Issue is they are producing them. They're just choosing not to sell them in a certain place. That's why X-2 in particular is so frustrating, since it's literally the exact same cart that would be released in the US if it were to be released here.

Clarification: I don't think that games that don't have a physical release that is the same as the one in the US/EU/Wherever should definitely be physical. I just take issue when they have a product that is perfectly suitable to be sold in multiple markets and they refuse to sell it.

Thanks for the recommendation shizuka! I watched some comparison videos and vita version looks like a really good port. The only thing that bothers me is the download only x2. I'm kinda more interested in playing x2 but I would like to have a physical copy to save space on my cards... I'll have to think about it more.

You won't find a better deal for those, specially if you want physical X-2.

My Vita 2000 showed up yesterday and wow, this thing feels amazing! I've been playing a bunch of DJMax ever since I got it and it feels good to have a Vita again

The simple solution would be premium prices for limited printings aimed at collector's only. Specialty products and small business ventures just aren't something video game publishers are into, or likely ever will be into.

Gaming is in a state, where if someone tried to release say... a $100 physical copy of a $10 indie game on any platform, with no cheap filler merch in a big box to go with it... all the people who have no interest in the physical product would lose their shit, people who see games as a pretty disposable thing that you just hit & quit wouldn't get it, and games media would help everyone be perplexed/angry... the venture would sink under fire and ridicule, even if it actually is sustainable.

It would be like if someone tried to sell the panel-sized, black&white pencil/ink only, HQ paper, book-bound "Artist's Edition" of comics that you can buy nowadays (for $200 or more), for $10 back in the days when comic books were 35 cents... and routinely mangled or thrown away. It would be laughed out of town.
