Vote for The Black Guy

This is pretty hilarious. I would vote for him for the sheer merit of him making me laugh. Plus look at that happy face. This the face of a guy that tells a joke to his wife everynight before bed
and the indirect cause of murder-suicide
He's got my vote.

I hate posters that does not show anything of the actual politics and plans. You don't vote for models or comedians, you vote for everyone's future.

Welcome to the maintaining of political image. Posters aren't policies, they're marketing. You could never convey anything more than a handful of words making up a sentence in a political poster and still have it be a good poster. They serve first and foremost to remember you that the candidates exist, and that you should inform yourself about them.

Politicians use many, many other venues to discuss their politics, and unsurprisingly they tend to be much better venues for the debating and sharing of proposed policies and plans.

The big difference is that a white history month isn't necessary right now. The main reason we have Black History Month isn't just because Black people deserve their history to get special recognition, but because there's a long tradition of Black history being ignored in the US.

Until the 1990s or thereabouts, controversial Black figures like Malcolm X or Marcus Garvey weren't spoken of much in schools. Pseudohistory about happy slaves, the "War of Northern Aggression", and Black Confederate soldiers were once common. That's certainly not true anymore, but having Black History Month is still a really good way to celebrate the history of African Americans and serve as a way to teach their current and former struggles.

It should have just been integrated throughout the ciriculum instead of given an entire month. It's offensive to all other races that black people get an entire month of history class dedicated to them. Asians, Indians, Hispanics, etc don't get that level of representation.

Those other groups don't have the history in the United States that blacks do, and that's being honest. Slavery, Civil Rights, Sports, Music, Education Etc...no other ethnic groups touch encompass that much history outside of whites. .

Hispanics do, and Native American Heritage Month exists, but doesn't get much attention given the comparatively small number of Native people in the US. Same with Asians.

oh my

Aside from the fact that there actually are months for all of those people and more, and that they're largely overlooked by many schools in America

wow

And lmao we still didn't learn black history even during the month. Only slavery and civil rights ever.

Goes to show how little attention they get in schools. I was never told "It's Asian American month" and we did nothing but learn about Asian's contributions. Why can't the achievements of Blacks/African Americans (as well as every other race/ethnicity) just be taught throughout the year rather than a month of nothing but it.

Because if there wasn't a month, no one would ever bring it up or talk about it.

This is a complicated question with a complex answer. The answer would involve slavery, jim crow, the civil rights movement, and the black power movement.

I think it's fine, assuming this is not a predominantly black area. He seems to be using it just to stand out and be noticed. Not really any different from someone making a play on their name to be memorable, which plenty of candidates do. If it could in any way be construed as a "vote for me because I'm black" slogan then I would have an issue with it, but I'm not seeing that here.

The sad thing is, some people actually believe this. They think "well some whites did something along time ago so you can't be racist against whites!" They either conveniently ignore or are simply ignorant about the history of slavery and war. Asians had their own slave trade. Arabs had their own slave trade. Africans had their own slave trade. Even Native Americans had their own slave trade.

But somehow, it's only "white people" who have done things so being racist and/or discriminatory against whites is acceptable. I have to wonder why people are pushing this agenda. Is it because they're just anti-white and looking for an excuse? I don't know, but it's just sad.

yeah, it is sad, isn't it?

If a white candidate did a "Vote for the white guy" campaign there'd be so many cries of racism.

If he was the sole white candidate among blacks it wouldn't. It would be a joke, like this thing is.

Some people don't understand how racism works.

Because schools are forbidden from talking about any people who aren't black during February. Thanks, Obama.

i'm crying

The 'this would be bad if a white person did it' thing really isn't helpful at all when judging whether something is racist. Context is everything, and context changes with the speaker.

How many African dudes run for office in South Australia? He's just having a bit of fun.

The clue is in the use of "the", a definite article showing the under representation of ethnic groups within politics. If you said "the white guy" everyone would ask which one?

Bout time something was done about those hoon drivers.

Anyone from AU care to explain what that means?
A hoon is a bogan who does burnouts and drives recklessly. I'm not trying to disparage bogans because you can be a bogan without being a hoon but you can't be a hoon without being a bogan.

If you search youtube for "hoon drivers" you'll get plenty of results showing people doing burnouts on public streets.

This is my favourite "news" story on hoon driving from our friends in the Territory: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEPI2PQTHfo

Can someone please turn this in to one of those infinitely looping GIFs?

edit: I'm watching burnout videos now and this one's actually not too bad lol It's the public streets bit that ruins the fun and makes it hoon driving though.
