Nvidia Launches GTX 980 And GTX 970 "Maxwell" Graphics Cards ($549 & $329)

Just huge demand. It's the best price to performance card I've seen in ages.

I guess that makes sense. I'm looking upgrade my PC a bit (just the tower, video card and 2 hard drives) and I hear the GTX is pretty good. I currently have a GTX 660Ti and looking to get an MSI GTX 970 in the near future.

Here are the instructions on how to raise the power limit on all iterations of both the GTX 970 and 980. This will very likely void your warranty if something terrible happens, but there have already been quite a few successful attempts on record.

http://www.overclock.net/t/1517316/...build-and-new-nvflash-5-190/110#post_23040140

*Again, do this at your own risk*

EDIT: You need to make sure the nvflash.exe with supporting files is in the root directory of where you extract it to. I'm going to try this later from a flash drive.

I don't need to overclock any further than I am able to right now to be able to max any game that I currently play, so I am not doing anything like that yet, lol. I'll wait and see if Zotac has something official up their sleeve. Right now with two amp omega 970s I am just fine, and enjoy having a warranty :P Thanks again for sharing the thread!

Yeah, I'm seriously debating on whether or not to bother doing this. I mean, I can get stable 1450MHz overclocks with the default settings already. It certainly doesn't seem worth it to void your warranty, but a lot of people love pushing their parts to the bleeding edge anyway. I just want some voltage stability really.

Anyone know the reason why you can't have SLI enabled and monitors working on both cards?

I have 3 monitors, rarely ever game in NVSurround anymore, have my middle (Primary) monitor on the top card, the 2 side monitors on the 2nd card.

This works great except for the fact you can't enable SLI.

I'm sure there is a highly technical reason why it won't work but anyone know?

You must use NV Surround if you want to use multiple monitors with SLI enabled.

For anyone interested in the Galax cards this is my stable overclock on two cards, one may overclock more than the other but I haven't tried. Ignore the spikes in the fan speed, I am still learning how to set a proper curve lol. It's all still obviously silicon lottery, but they have my thumbs up so far. They have no noticeable coil whine and I can be quite sensitive to coil whine. Probably could have got it higher if I had more time to play with the voltage, raise the power limit more. This weekend I am going for 16K firestrike!

Firestrike highest I got was 15,630. This is with a 3570K at 4.5 http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/4468892?

On Newegg, all the Strix and 4G Gaming cards (ASUS and MSI, respectively) have all been selling out in less than 15 minutes after coming back in stock.

Looking to order one tonight, I need help. Never brought a GPU before, ran out of money while building my pc and been using the hd4000 for everyday use and civ5/minecraft.

Brought a bunch of games to push my self to get a GPU, like the witcher 1+2, metro 2033, tomb raider etc over the course of the last few steam sales/humble bundle etc. Will be getting the witcher 3, shadow of morder, dragon age etc.

I wonder which one (970) to get, G4 gaming, evga etc. I want to play only at 1080p for now with some recording with fraps, twitch streaming etc. How much to overclock, should I also overclock my stock i5 3570k. Up my ram from 8 to 16 ( I stupidly brought 3 sticks, and it only can take two and two.

Thanks, x-drake.

I do not really think you need to upgrade your system RAM to 16 gb anytime soon. 8gb RAM are still enough for gaming. On the other side, ram isn't that expansive but do not expect a big jump in performace from it.

Your CPU is fine (same as mine). I had no troubles with it till now and it seems to be fast enough for every game, even if the system recommended specs demand an I7. Also no need to OC it preemptively.
BUT you may consider to get an I7 somewhere down 2015. But it all depends how DX12 and 8 Thread operations are going to work out in the future. So keep it cool for now and relax your cpu is good atm.

It's hard to tell you wich gtx970 costum design to get. I bought a Gigabyte G1, because it seems to hold that 66°C even during it's boost frequenzy of ~1350mhz (arriving on monday, maybe on saturday with a bit ok luck). Other people are looking for a more quiet card like the MSI Gaming 4G or the Asus. Also the Palit Jetstream seems to be up there with the rest. And performance wise: The differences are very small so just get one that is not totaly overprized right now and you feel comfortable with.

Anyone know the difference between Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming rev 1.0 and 1.1.? O_o

AFAIK, Gigabyte had some problems with a supplier because the demand was to high. In the 1.1 revision they are using different parts in the PWT output stage.

MSI GTX 970 get!

Gave BF4 a quick try and what a beautiful feeling it is to be able to max out the video settings without a care in the world.

This one should hopefully last me for 3 or 4 years.

Mine is out delivery! My first GPU since AGP slots where a thing.

Got my Asus 970 installed last night. Upgraded from an HD 5770.

Tested it out with a bunch of games, and it handled everything I threw at it. Ended up grabbing Shadow of Mordor to try out with the Ultra texture pack, and once I figured out the borderless windowed mode fix it ran flawlessly. Never drops below 50.

Waiting to install it was nerve-wracking. It can so very very close to not fitting in my case. Luckily the two results are only "fit" or "didn't fit" and it landed on the good one.

Ultra BF4 @1440p runs awesome on these cards at stock settings. Entirely new experience for me. I still have to figure out the best balance in Crysis 3. Damn that game is demanding on max.

I see thanks. Also I have a 650W CM EXTREME GX 80+ PSU. Would that be enough power wise. I just have the Motherboard, CPU, HDD, Dvd and two case fans in the motherboard. Would it also be enough for the 670, since I keep reading its power efficient. or would a upgrade be needed.
Also are the Stock fans on the G1 good, since your temps look good at boost.

I have a 500W PSU on a GTX970, i5-3570k, 2HDD PC and it's enough so I'm sure you'll be fine

Thanks great to hear. About to order now. Next problem im guessing is the size of the card. Might have to buy a new gaming case just to fit it. And ssd, to load my os onto and speed things up. Thanks God I got work that pays decent and weekly.

Measure twice, order once.

Specs including size of the card are listed on every manufacturer's site. Measure your case and find out if you can fit it. Most modern cases should have no problems with the smaller ones. You may have to remove a hard drive cage or something.

DSR isn't working for me in most games - the resolution simply isn't showing up in the menu screen. That's the case for Killer is Dead and Enslaved. Am I doing something wrong?

Wow the twin frozr is quiet. Even quieter than my 660ti twin frozr. Looks so great with my MSI motherboard too. Everything is so.... Red.

Well the G1 gaming is out of stock, but the MSI GTX 970 GAMING Twin Frozr V is in stock and can be delivered by monday. Should I bite?

Does that gap in boost make a difference? Should I OC it to make the base and boast like the G1 or more?

They're both good cards. I believe the Gigabyte runs a good bit cooler, possibly quieter but don't quote me on that. If you're waiting on a card for a new build and it's holding you up, I'm sure the MSI will be fine. If you are just looking for an upgrade I would personally hold out and pick up the Gigabyte when it's available, but that's just me.

finally my second gigabyte 970 will be here today, excited!

whats this about not being able to use 2 screens with SLI tho? O_o

So, is there a massive shortage of GTX 970's online? Amazon and Newegg don't have any in stock and it's quite bizarre to me.

I used NowInStock.net to get my ASUS GTX 970 STRIX. I got the text & email alert from this site two hours before Newegg sent me an email alert.

GTX 970 section
GTX 980 section

If you're looking for the EVGA GTX 970 FTW, sign up for the alert on their page. I haven't seen it in stock anywhere else. The FTW uses a different heatsink and also qualifies for the free backplate if purchased before 11.9.14.

What kind of frame rates are you averaging?

With two 970s at ~1500mhz at 2560x1600 I toss on vsync and lock it at 60, both gpus rarely go over 50% usage.......... it's awesome. Room to spare... so I'd assume that with one card, its possible to lock at 60 by maybe dropping to 2xAA instead of 4.

A stable 650 W PSU is fine, you could even go with a 'weaker' power unit. For the 670 and the 970. .
No idea what you mean with good fans on the G1. Are you worried about noise and temperature? Gigabyte is following a very simple solution here. They are using a cooling system with a biger surface and 3 fans instead of the 'normal' 2 fan solution. That makes the card way bigger and a bit more power hungry. Also gigabyte is promising to use only selected Chips for the g1, this gives the card higher OC capabilitys.
But this doesn't make the G1 a quiet card with around 2,6 sone under heavy load. This is still a good value, but not a quiet one. All this combined seems to make the G1 a good card for OC. People are claiming to go up to 1500mhz stable boost with the G1 and still hitting under 80°C. And this is a very good sign.

If you want a more quiet card you could go with the msi or the asus gtx 970.

LOL fuck you are running two of those babies. I was hoping just single so I can compare it with mine.
I am averaging about 100 fps with ultra and 4xaa, just 1 970

You have to plug all your screens on your first card, the second card's screens can only be used in surround mode, or without SLI.

I've got two Gigabyte 970 in SLI, the top one has four screens connected to it : 2 screens via DVI, 1 via DP with an apdater to DVI + Oculus Rift via HDMI. The second one has no screen connected.

I can enable them as usual while keeping SLI enabled, and even use DSR on them.

I keep my rift connected to a second card and just disable SLI when I want to use it... for now anyways since SLI isn't helpful for the rift at the moment. I actually have five displays connected to my primary card (two on the same line though). Three monitors, and then hdmi to my Sony HMZ-T1 which carries on to my HDTV.

When VR SLI becomes a thing I'll probably rejig things somewhat, but that's only going to use two of my three cards, so maybe I'll be able to keep everything connected as is.

What would happen now if I stick the 970 into an Asus "P8P67 Pro Rev.3.0 Mainboard". I build my pc back in 2011 and I'm wondering: Does this even work or do I need to update my mainboard also?
