So uh, I don't see Alicia anywhere in the Rose video, even though other characters are there (everyone in fact). In the Zaveid video, it seems like they were about to fight him.

Yeah, that's been bugging me too. In any trailer where Sorey is seen with Roze and co., Alicia is no where to be found. The only clip where you can see both (with rest of the party) is in the animated footage (opening video?), but both are seen standing far from each other.

Well, there's been some speculation that Rosé might also be in the running for main female heroine. Or that she shares the role with Alicia. Or even that there is no main heroine.

I guess we'll see.

It adds to the notion that the main cast will only be 6 characters max at a time, and there will be some sort of choice between Alicia/Rose and Zaveid/Dezel. At the very least, definitely between Alicia and Rose.

Goddammit. I love Alicia's design but Rose has waifu factor going for her. Please don't force me to choose between them.

Even if there was another Kratos/Zelos situation (which I personally doubt), it would only present itself at the end of the game most likely. So I don't think these screens are indication of anything.

Alicia probably got kidnapped or something.

Two new characters (one was in the last trailer):

Simon, voiced by Hiromi Igarashi, is a mysterious Seraph (previously referred to as Tenzoku) who doesn’t abide by the Doushi and instead acts on her own accord. She is ruthless and cynical towards Sorey and company, and holds a special power that does not depend on the common four elements.

Renard, voiced by Takehito Koyasu, is a ruthless assassin from the “Bone of the Wind” assassin’s guild who relentlessly stalks Alisha. He is a sly and cold-blooded person who genuinely enjoys murder.

Renard got that crazy face.

Famitsu has gone up with its latest online preview of Tales of Zestiria, providing a first look at new characters Renard and Simon.

Renard, voiced by Takehito Koyasu, is a member of the elusie assassins guild “Bone of the Wind.” Through fighting him, Sorey is made to confront the horrid reality that people are turning into Hyouma.

Simon, voiced by Hiromi Igarashi, is a mysterious Seraph who speaks in philosophical-like expressions. She repeatedly appears before Sorey and the others under the belief that their work is a waste of time, but her true motive is unknown.

Tales of Zestiria is due out for PlayStation 3 on January 22 in Japan and by summer 2015 in North America and Europe.

What a downgrade the series took since Vesperia....I think the cell shading style from vesperia suited so much more to the series, than those horrible ps2/ps3 graphics

Is each character designed by a different person? Because that's what it looks like.
Four credited character designers, and a couple still characters didn't get credits so there may be even more uncredited designers among the development staff. So yeah, it's a disjointed mess style wise.

Well I guess you're beyond help then :P

The character designs from previous Tales games were the main reason i never really got into the series.I really hated their costumes.Zestiria on the other hand looks more Fantasy oriented which i prefer. It will be my first Tales game since Phantasia on GBA.So for me they must be doing something right although i understand that many of the fans of the previous Tales character designs will probably be disappointed.

Every time I see a thread for Zestria all I can think about is how much Namco is missing the boat on not upgrading this to PS4 in NA/EU. This is launching almost 2 years into next gen......

I'm sure they are already working on a PS4 port but they will not announce it for at least another year in order to maximize the profits on PS3 first.

Sorey looks good but everyone else looks ramshackle (like Simon above), overdesigned and/or inconsistent (between characters).

Preferences, but that's why I don't like these designs much.

Maybe you should first look up how late into the previous gen the first Tales (Vesperia) was for a pointer.
Nearly 3 years.

Yeah, it's a DLC thing for the 20th NGE anniversary or some such.

The October update shows an equipment upgrade system where you can attach skills to armor and fuse, etc.

from Gematsu / 4Gamer

So it's gonna work like Vesperia's skill system? But instead of the skill already being on the weapon, you have to put it there?

I was imagining something like FFX equipment skills + fusion. But seems like we don't have all the details on how skills can be specifically manipulated.

Agreed 10,000%.

All the proposed names for the character sound really off, if you ask me.

I guess I'll still look into getting this, but I don't think this game is going to turn my opinion around on Tales. At this point. the series is just JRPG junk food to me.
