Project CARS (crowdsourcing) racing sim by Slightly Mad Studios (fully funded 3.75M)

Not altogether unexpected following recent user reports. I wonder if any new content will make it in (tracks and cars) or if polishing/debugging the current content will take all of the resources.

It'll make delaying my PC build that little bit easier though. Looks like I might actually clear my last-gen console backlog after all..!

My understanding is the time will be spent polishing and optimizing, rather than fast forwarding future content or adding features. The big kicker is the release timing, holiday season competition is another reason for the delay.

Well they are not going to be happy when they look at the release calender for Q1 then.

Not a surprise. I was thinking the latest builds still have a long way to go, would take one heck of a final push to have it all ready for November.

I like how AC car model comes closer to the screen when braking other than that PC looks better!
Reminds me a little bit of the torque/brake cam of NFS HP2... which was awesome and is still my third-person racing cam.

Probably would never use it instead of first-person in either of these games though haha

Oh phooey. Well, I'd rather it feel truly finished. It'll probably get some more attention in March, too, since it was doomed to be buried in the typical November rush and the current biggest hype releases are in February.

OK, so it's semi-official

Seems members on WMD know about this but have been asked not to reveal it yet?

20th March ties in nicely with the start of British Summer Time in the UK on 29th March (when clocks advance one hour for lighter evenings), which is already one of my favourite times of year as it means winter can officially fuck off.

Yeah, makes a lot of sense.
I really couldn't see how they would be able to launch next month, and i'm sure they've known this for quite some time themselves

They probably could, but the crunch would be ridiculous and it just wouldn't be perfect. A delay helps everyone take proper care with optimizations. Controller support needs a lot of tweaking and for a November release, it would be rushed and incomplete.

looks awesome but the water not running on the windows and screen takes a bit of the immersion away.

I noticed that too, including the same droplet pattern occuring over and over. Looks pretty cheap. Forza Horizon 2 did a pretty great job in comparison. Track-side details seem awfully low quality in compared to what I've seen on current consoles recently. I've seen waaay better Project Cars videos(both gameplay and trailers) in the past, but I've not been too impressed with more recent ones. What gives? Did I miss something?(haven't been following much recently, in fact).

Makes sense. No need to rush the game out this fall IMO since it's so crowded, especially for racing games.

Rumours I'm hearing around the place is a delay is getting announced in the next 24 hours. The delay is pushing the game back to March 2015.

:(

It makes a lot of sense for the console versions. Releasing it in November without a major publisher backing is sending a game to die.

PC version would sell the same in November or March.

I hope they release a demo as well because I need to play it to remove my fears after being burned 2 times with SHIFT. Also why March? They don't need to report FY to investors, right? Because most publishers rush for that late March release to improve their financials before FY ends, so an April release would be even better because almost no games release that month while March is often packed.

FIX THIS SHIT DURING THE DELAY

Andrew finally had some time to put some era matching tyres on the old Lotus 72D, for those that have time for a few laps and don't know what to pick --> try it out on Sonoma, fun factor is huge ;)

Tried to put a lap in a WebM as it has sound, file was rather big, so used "click the image"solution..........hope that works?

Dam was looking forward to this after the failed drive club launch. 2014 has been quite the shitty year for games

Maybe for you. I'm happy as a pig in shit playing Forza 5 all year (laser-mapped Nürburgring is godlike) and now Horizon 2. That's just racing games. Within the next month two AAA 1st party games are coming out, Sunset Overdrive and Halo MCC and I don't know if I have the time with all the backlog.... and that's just on my Xbox One.

I think it's been an awesome year for games.

Owning a pc and ps4 and not counting all the remastered editions I only got Assetto corsa, ground zeros, and mostly indie pc titles, not been that great so far

Awesome. I tried the car the other day but I don't know why (I'm an idiot!) I used default tires >_<

Bolded: To be honest, I'm yet to try a car that makes Sonoma not huge in fun factor.

On an unrelated topic, I've been doing some laps at Snetterton for the first time in the last couple of days and I'm amazed. I have only played with the Ginetta Junior and, while it's a slow car for the track, I still think it's a match made in heaven. The last chicane after the big straight is soooo demanding and sooooo much fun whenever you nail it. The combo of the last two turns is probably the hardest in the game in my opinion. I don't think I have ever done it correctly. But it's not only these places, I feel like every curve counts, every one is somehow interesting.

In fact, I'd say "The Holy Trinity of the UK Laser Sanned Tracks" is some of the best fun I've had with this game.

I got used to Andrews updates, never pick the default one, always the last one on the drop down tyre menu ;)

And full agreement on Sonema, I said it before but that track is just briliant (corners+height chances) and those classic British track like Snetterton & Oulton Park are definitely up there. Not trying to shit on modern track as I do understand the need for safety, but for us simmers, it is nice to drive on some track were (safety) time has stood still.

I just did a bunch of laps at Snetterton and Brands in the 72, and I too forgot to change the tires at first (Mark sayed ziss was gud, but I tink ziss is two gud). Brilliant. :P

Now that the cornering speeds are halved...Loved it! Nice and tricky picking up the throttle. I watched some youtube footage to compare the attitude, and it seemed pretty close. All the excitement happens post-apex when it starts getting snappy.

These guys have worked so hard on this game. I'm happy they've bought some more time to make it the best that it can be.

Love the webm too. More!

Yeah, me too, but for some reason I went with default. Probably because I never pick that car and couldn't tell what tire I was supposed to test and so I concentrated on the FFB rather than the tire, which is not a good decision, since tires also affect how good the FFB feels. Anyway, I fully agree on your comment about older tracks, at least for TT, they're very interesting. For races they're maybe a bit too narrow to have back and forth fights.

I see that only 30fps option is present.
I think the download is 60fps.

Amazing trailer.
Can those with the game and with decent PCs, please comment as to whether that excitement and emotion transfers to the actual gameplay?
What you need to keep in mind is that racing at Nords is not easy. Racing at Nords at night is even harder, Racing at Nords at night in a thunderstorm is something that nobody in their right mind would do in real life. So, yeah, if you are able to keep a race in such conditions in close quarters it could probably be one of the most excitings moments you could have in a racing game. But most probably you and the rest of the grid will spin a lot if you want to push.

Thanks, but I was speaking generally, not specifically about this track or the weather. The trailer gives an impression of tight, intense, thrilling racing - does the actual gameplay reflect this, or is it partly clever editing?

Tight, intense racing is dependent on who you race with most of all.

This game is extremely unfun to play. Maybe it's supposed to be realistic, but one little ding and your car spins out, and if you go off road you invalidate your laptime. Ugh.

It's supposed to be a simulator not an arcade game...
Try need for speed rivals maybe.

It's a sim racer. You not being very good != "game is unfun".

If you are not very good then learn to get better. If you don't have the desire to learn to get better then sorry this game is not for you. Seek out an arcade racer that is more forgiving.

I was hoping it'd be an arcade racer with good graphics. The graphics was the main draw for me. I don't like sims. They aren't fun for me.
