Nintendo Downloads - October 2014

Awesome, thanks for doing the giveaway. Really want to get it since my budget is limited & going towards SSB Wii U.

Ok this might sound stupid, but why is there almost no content on the PAL Wii U eshop? I mean i have like just 12 pages. Am i doing it wrong? It's the first time i use the eshop and it looks poor compared to the 3DS ome...

Wii U is barely 2 years old. 3DS is 3.5 years old and sold about 5x as much. Plus "almost no content" is a hilarious exaggerration.

Issue becomes releasing a game in Europe is costly compared to NA (free) due to ratings. So NA Wii U will have a lot more indies/games available due to this as well as getting a rating is simple.

I still plan to release my game (ZaciSa's Last Stand) in Europe (no Germany though for a while do to USK) eventually. Just taking my time due to these absurd costs. It's a little daunting.

PEGI/USK really need to wake up and get with the program. ESRB did, you have no excuse.

It's not about how long the consoles are on the market, but moslty about how much they sold and how much indie support they get. And yes, the amount of games on the PAL eshop is no exxaggerration.

Tweet PEGI to get off their ass and make their ratings free/simple ;)

It will cost me about $400 to get a PEGI rating. I will eventually get the game out in Europe and pay that price. But to an indie like me, who is still in the red, that is not a small amount.

That's a lot more than I expected. I can see now why EU is delayed/ skipped most of the times.

Yep, made even worse with USK that is generally just slightly more expensive. Though I do hear for Nintendo eShop, Germany has a lot of customers. So it is recommended to get that USK rating.

RCMADIAX told me it cost him nearly $1000 (that is including bank fees) to get his game, BLOK DROP U, rated in both PEGI & USK. Not sure if his game is even out in Germany yet, last I heard (this being many months ago on this subject) that the people behind USK are very difficult to get in touch with and are damn near incompetent in actually responding to him. They did eventually rate his game, but never contacted him about it.. (he tells me now that he will get it out in Germany next year after his PING 1.5+ levels are done)

To put this in perspective. ESRB rating is so easy and free, that getting a rating takes 5 minutes. Heck, Nintendo & ESRB seem to have set up an easy portal for us to get the ratings. So not only is it easy, but they have gone out of their way to make it even easier.

Isn't Australia suppose to be re-doing their system now too?

Ufouria, maybe? If people ask about single VC games, I tend to slant toward the off-beat and/or rare ones. Also Recca, but that's only on 3DS.

There are a lot of 'em (mostly platformers) so you're gonna have to be a little more specific.

Yeah, sorry. I have all of the obvious ones (Zeldas, marios, castlevanias, mega mans, etc.) I'm looking for some less obvious recommendations (hidden gems-ish) I guess.

Can anyone recommend a must-play single player NES game on either Wii or Wii U vc?

Yeah, sorry. I have all of the obvious ones (Zeldas, marios, castlevanias, mega mans, etc.) I'm looking for some less obvious recommendations (hidden gems-ish) I guess.

Wii U: Dr. Mario, Wario's Woods and Adventures of Lolo are nice puzzle games. Super Dodgeball is good but it's better played in multiplayer, obviously. Ufouria is a great game by Sunsoft, with excellent graphics and a cult-classic soundtrack. Life Force is a great shmup. Gargoyle's Quest 2 is going to release soon and it's also very good.

Wii: Gradius, Zanac and SCAT are cool shoot-em-ups. Bubble Bobble and Adventures of Lolo 2 are nice puzzles. The Legend of Kage, Mighty Bomb Jack, Milon's Secret Castle and Blaster Master are considered classics. I like Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom but it's not for everybody. Faxanadu is fantastic.

These are all good games and you're bound to find something you enjoy in there. Google them up, see a video or two on youtube and decide which one you're more interested in according to what you're looking for at the moment. This list assumes that you included Punch-Out, Double Dragon, Kid Icarus, River City Ransom, Metroid, Ninja Gaiden, etc as "obvious ones," of course. Have fun! And that's a nice avatar you got there.

Hmm... no weekly PR yet?... Don't tell me today's a holiday in Germany again :p

Edit: nvm.

I still cannot figure out what the issue is with NTSC versions of games. Why DKC and DKC3 but no DKC2?

EDIT:

I mean, clearly it's no longer a question of releasing the "correct" version for each region, in some weird way of staying totally authentic. There's also clearly not an issue with translations, as some of the US versions released in Europe are more text-heavy than the PAL versions that were released in other instances. It's obviously not a performance issue, as some games that require responsive control inputs etc. have been released in the "improved PAL" versions while others in the same series have come out in NTSC.

It seems totally random and makes little sense, which strongly suggests that there's something basic we're missing here that would explain it.

Those game seem to have a "troubled" history... removed from the Wii Shop channel, 50/60hz mix up, back on the Wii Shop Channel... doesn't make any sense.

Maybe they fixed something that was wrong with the Wii release?...

What the fuck are you talking about? As of now, there are over 200 VC- And digital only games on the EU eShop. The US one has 30 more, which is not a lot. Especially if you consider that most of those extra games are shovelware like "The Letter" or "Ava and Avior save the world".

Is that YGO game good?

Tempted to get the Firebrand games on EU 3DS eShop.
Wish Contra 1 was on it though, I've never played Super C and am rather heistant at getting it >_<

Yeah, there's obviously been something else going on with DKC - as you say, vanishing from the Wii Shop for years despite being first-party suggests there was something odd going on there.

Issues over the rights to the SuperFX chip - didn't Argonaut hold the rights to the chip design there, which have subsequently passed to other parties? - *seem* to have put a kibosh on the release of games like Starfox, so it wouldn't be at all surprising if there's something similarly odd about the development history or other parties involved in DKC2's original release (and perhaps in the whole series) that are causing an issue here.

Is that YGO game good?

For that price it isn't too bad. There's very little sense of progression though, you don't earn dual points to buy card packs in this version, as all cards are unlocked from the start for use. That can be either a very good or very bad thing. There's considerable content cut in localisation too. The card game itself still plays pretty well though, even if there's no online or wireless multiplayer modes. :/

Really wanted to love this game, waited long enough for it. Screw you Kuntnami. :(

Take it easy junior, as i stated above - i could have checked the wrong categories, it was the first time i ever opened the Wii U eshop and it showed only 12 pages of content (i don't add the virtual console, as i am not interested in it for the Wii U). If there is an other way to go through the games, then go on and write it instead of bitching around.

What I don't get: DKC3 has the "This is the US version" blurb at the end. Devil World, however, again has nothing. The intern writing those PR things every week clearly has no clue what he's doing :D

Devil world didn't released in America.

At the risk of port begging, it is a shame that it isnt.

Devil World is the kind of game that should be cheap to port (as in just release the Japanesse version) and since was never available on the NES might do surprisingly well on the VC. I know it would be an impulse purchase for me.

Devil world didn't released in America.

Yes, but it did release in Japan and they could use the Japanese version. It wouldn't be the first time since they released Super Mario Picross globally. And, well, Sin & Punishment of course.

There is no "porting."

Right now that just makes me sad since I expect them to also skip Germany for this. Master Reboot still isn't out here. Thanks again, USK.

man,you are really missing good stuff then.
master reboot is unique and kinda fucked up.the atmosphere reminds me somehow of "little inferno".

I will never understand germanys super stupid rating system. just use pegi already, like every other european country.
jeez

Zombie Panic in Wonderland DX (Akaoni Studio) - €5.00/£4.50
The Deluxe Version for Nintendo 3DS of the successful Zombie Panic in Wonderland! Don't miss it! The game is completely renewed for this version! Let's set out on a grand adventure to save the Wonderland from the zombies destroying all in your way!

This looks nice and fun, at least judging from videos of the game running on the Wii and iOS. Any word about the 3DS version being cut down or edited ('completely renewed' from Nintendo could be a tricky expression), compared to the others?

Wow I thought Stealth was 2015, wtf.

Nope, always was Q4 2014! Maybe you're thinking of Affordable Space Adventures, that is 2015.

I wish. We still don't have Assault Suit Valken too. And I would like to play the GBA castlevanias. Come on UE VC!

Azure Striker Gunvolt?

edit: oooooh that's the Japanese name of Cybernator! Bizarre how similar these are lol.

edit2: Costume Quest 2 missing Off-TV is pretty shitty.

Just FYI, the number of eShop (non-VC) titles has increased a lot in the past 6 months. At the beginning of this year, there were like 32 or so. There's at least double (possibly even more) now, so it's picking up steam.
