Nintendo Downloads - October 2014

I wonder what blocked Activision so far from putting content on the eShop.
Harker mentioned Activision gets a percentage of XBL/PS+ revenues off the bat thanks to COD's influence, and that's why they publish everything on both storefronts. Nintendo doesn't have an equivalent paywall so Activision doesn't get free money from it and as such it's been speculated that's why they haven't been publishing on the eShop.

Enjoy it, NA gaf!

How's the Namco Museum on the GBA? Been considering it..
I believe it includes Ms. PACMAN, pole position, dig dug, and galaxian. I have a copy but haven't played it much since I was kid. It was decent but not fantastic. Probably better than the NES counterparts .

Dumb speculation, with Natsume recently taking the effort to quote that they aren't putting the N64 Harvest Moon game on VC, and Smash Bros having masterpiece mode again, maybe N64 VC is going to come out in November. They didn't show off Starfox at all in that little clip, and in Brawl they used his N64 game in the Maseterpiece section.

There is a Star Fox they can use. Star Fox Command! Remember there is DS emulation...

Another though we saw Mega Man 2 so could Sonic happen...there are GBA games.

Though some are speculating nothing after SNES will be seen. I guess Robin and Shulk are being left out to name a few so whats some Star Fox.

As for games being on the eShop. Didn't stop Sakurai putting Mother 2 in the Japanese version of Brawl.

I imagine the technical issues that kept them from releasing on Wii VC are still unsolved on Wii U, whatever they might be.

Wasn't aware it didn't come out for the Wii VC either, I didn't really pay much attention to that.

Guess that makes it kind of expected...
Still really disappointing though...

It's the best game in the series.

+Galaga as well! Cover shows 4 games but they're five.
There's really no comparison to be made with the NES ports, these are on a whole other planet.

They're really good ports, close to arcade perfect (since they're not emulated). I would have preferred The 50th Anniversary edition tho, since that one includes Pac-Man (Ms. Pac-Man IS in both) but mainly cause you can display the pacs in TATE (90° rotation) mode and loved doing that on my Micro. 50th anniversary had 3 ways to display them: TATE (imagine how awesome to play this way on the gamepad!), panel scrolling (ugh!) and original aspect ratio (meaning you'd have very little screen estate with big borders on the side but this won't be much of a problem on TV or Gamepad as it was on GBA, hell it's the best way to play besides TATE.

Now with this one, the original NM, you have pixel perfect BUT pan-scrolling (impossible to play) or a full screen squashed (no borders) at reduced resolution. This means that the only way to play is with the latter, but you'll have everything squashed and fatter and the low rez means it's kinda difficult to spot the ghosts' eyes to see where they'll be turning... at least on GBA, maybe this will be less of a problem on the TV/GAMEPAD.

Of course they're all MUCH MUCH better than the NES ports, but I wish they'd gone for NM50A instead.

One cool addition thanks to VC is that both collections criminally left out a save feature (fuckin' cheapskates skimpin' on the battery) so you were left with no highscore records, thanks to savestates this can be corrected on WiiU... this feature alone makes it worth it in my eyes.

Dig-Dug is also a great game, it can only be played in pixel-perfect (yay!) scrolling mode (boo!) but the way the game plays means that doesn't hinder it much and is perfectly playable.
Also balls hard Galaga and Galaxian are still classics... for €6 it's well worth it, imo.

If you're into retro arcade gaming of course.

Some updated release dates
3DS
Woah Dave!($4.99) - Oct 30
Zombie Panic in Wonderland DX ($6.00) - Oct 30

Wii U
Rock Zombie($6.99) - Oct 30
The Swapper ($19.99) - Nov. 6

Ahh that's why I was remembering something bad about the game. I liked the game at first but gradually grew tired of it and I think that was the main reason.

Nice Rock Zombie, I will get that
Now waiting for Gone Home and Slender Man

Unless they suddenly start releasing games at a breakneck pace, the Masterpiece feature will be pointless because at least half of the franchises won't have games available for purchase.

Maybe thats why they released DKC, I guess US will get it before Smash Launch

I remember on Wii, NA and Europe didn't get Earthbound or Fire emblem, I wonder if they will release Fire emblem games on the VC over here now since they are well represented in Smash Bros

I don't think they can hit every character anyway so they won't try, it's just a neat little VC upsell.

Speaking of SSB Masterpieces, nobody caught Kirby's Dreamland is clearly a Gameboy game?

$20 for The Swapper?

Now I'm really worried about Stealth Bastard 2's price. If Curve is going to mark up the price of an 18 month old Steam port which was recently on sale for $3, who knows how much they're gonna charge for a brand new Wii U exclusive.

Speaking of GB games what were they doing showing Dr. Mario.

Like Kirby they could have used the NES version. Wonder if this is a hint you'll be able to buy things for 3DS from the Wii U eShop rather than just look at them?

Do you think all franchises will get masterpieces though. For example I don't expect any
ROB or Zapper
games to come out. Ever.

I'd expect only the 2 English GBA ones...and eventually Shadow Dragon.

I'd love to see them release the SFC ones as the games are really playable without knowing Japanese once you know menu positions (as in which one is the trade command, that kind of stuff) although you will have to use external documents for character recruitments, secrets and of course, the plot. I can see their untranslated nature leading to complaints putting Nintendo off from bothering.

They had the Game Boy version of Dr Mario when the NES version is right there, too.

Yes! :)

Glad they finally set an official date.

What if U can play them in SGB mode?

Super Gameboy and color palettes at least as good as GBC for GB games might push me to rebuy some favorites.. Though their general VC policy has me down on making any purchases at all, let alone re-buys. Hoping their next gen platform has a much more clear, consumer friendly plan for backwards compatibility/cross buy/etc. As is, I'll pretty much only buy games I don't already have and can't get elsewhere cheaper (though VC titles are rarely priced over physical stuff, even loose carts)

Personally, I still wouldn't re-buy stuff. I'm satisfied with the collection I have on the 3DS. I might consider buying new VC stuff strictly on the Wii-U though.

So I've been stewing on this since yesterday's Smash Direct: I think Game Boy VC is coming to the WiiU Virtual Console.

The Masterpiece section in Smash WiiU contains demos for a bunch of classic games, and each one has a link that sends you to the eShop to buy the full game, if you desire. Thing is, the games hail from NES, SNES... and Game Boy!

I was thinking GB VC on WiiU was gonna happen, seeing as WiiU VC will be the standard going forward based on the 'future architecture based on WiiU' comments, so they probably want to get every system on there eventually. Seeing GB games in the masterpiece section makes me certain it's happening, and that it's happening soon.

Or I could be jumping to conclusions! The most likely answer. :p

I have so many GB and GBC games on my 3DS that I'd really hope for cross buy or at least an upgrade discount for GB games I already have... but lol, that's not gonna happen

I think more likely option is that we're getting the ability to buy games for the 3DS on Wii U, which seems possible given the Web eShop already in place

What if they gave me pizza?

I mean, that would be super and all.
But, both are just about as likely to happen.

Nintendo has completely forgotten about the Super Gameboy =(

Played Master Reboot yesterday.

Why didn't anyone tell me about this game sooner! It's tense, yet stimulating, and the aesthetic of being inside a computer and trying to recall memories, this game just surprised me!

I was expecting something super cheap. I'm pleasantly surprised.

They should just release a SGB app on Wii U that lets you link your 3DS and play your GB games on it or something.

I really wish they'd added GBC pallet options for DMG games on 3DS already though. Maybe next gen.

Both of those would be very awesome.

The 2nd one at least has some chance of happening, I would think...

But, I have no hope at all for Nintendo touching the Super Gameboy again.

Yeah, it's pretty darn good.

I will say that some of the puzzles are a little obtuse and later on in the game, there's some awkward platforming but it's a great deal for $7. If you like unique art styles, the game is great.

Wales has some pretty interesting stuff coming up. Infinitely Runner looks cool and they have a semi-sequel to Master Reboot coming out. (I don't think it continues the story, but it retains the weird artstyle.)

Nintendo has made so many misfires with Virtual Console, it's almost painful to watch at this point.

Something like adding Super Game Boy support (or fixing the broken green monochrome palette) could be easily addressed if the emulation software was system-wide and not wrapped around each game's ROM. That would also save a lot of space on your memory card. And the software could just auto-update through SpotPass or firmware.

Thanks, guys. I'm mainly interested in arcade-perfect Galaga/Galaxian, anything else would be a bonus. Again, impressions much appreciated.

Where are the save functions? I finished 2 puzzles and I couldn't find a save function so I just closed out via the Wii U menu.
