Is Judge Judy the most grossly overpaid person on the planet?

Judge Judy isn't just paid 47 million dollars salary for HER show, she's got her hands in like a dozen other court and reality programs that air in syndication around the world.

Seriously she's listed as Executive Producer on so much shit, that's where she's generating all that income from.

Arguing that she is overpaid doesn't make much sense. People making that argument should really be trying to convince viewers not to watch her. Is it immoral to watch her show?

Millions watch her everyday and advertisers pay lots of money to be seen during her show. It's that simple.

her show is syndicated all over the country and all those tv stations together are making way more than 900k a day so how isn't she worth it?

No one is saying she isn't worth it, or that she isn't deserving of a huge payout for what she does. Hell, I watch her show all of the time, I think she's great, and all the power to her if she earns that much money, I know for sure I'd take it if I could...but when I detahc myself from my admiration for her and what she does, and look at it from a logical standpoint, I think that no human being needs that much money. Even if her pay was cut by 3/4, she could still live a ridiculously extravagant lifestyle comfortably. So I see $900k a day as a gross overpay.

But the point is where do you want that money to go instead? Back to the studios? To the advertisers? Where? It's coming in because of the amount of viewers she attracts, so do you want the execs and studios to take more? Someone is going to get rich off the show, so why not her?

Rewarding talent is not a bad thing, and certainly better than the alternative.

that's not how money works, dude

My only regret is not being the first reply to tell you how wrong you are. Judge Judy is the shit and she's worth twice whatever she makes.

When watching these shows I always want someone to straight up clown JJ.
She's legit smarter than everyone she has on. And even if they did, she's the fucking boss and she could edit that shit right out.

What are you finding so hard to understand about what I'm saying? I don't have the answers to where the money should go, and I don't have the right to say where it should go, and frankly, I don't really care...all I'm doing is saying that I think any human being who gets paid $900k a day is being grossly overpaid. My viewpoint is that simple.

"Awarding talent is not a bad thing"

I didn't say otherwise.

What? I was just hypothesising. Jeez, you guys are really looking into my comments far more than I intended them to be looked into.

Have mercy! I've already said that I thinks he's great and enjoy her show. Gimme a break guys. XD

[I thought the 47 million wasn't just for her but her production staff and executives as well? her actual take home pay is way less. I know I read that in this forum when we had another thread about Judge Judy.

Judge Judy is fucking awesome. The best is when she catches somebody in a lie. lol

She let's them have it and it's glorious!

Logically? Logically? This is purely emotional reasoning. $900k is a big number and it elicits a reaction.

Syndication is a fucking gold mine, that's why she makes so much. Her show is probably on 4 or 5 times a day every day at any given time. She obviously generates far more than she makes so I don't see how she can be overpaid.

When your show is pulling in 8-10 million viewers a day I would say so.

Not to mention, it's syndicated around the world. One of the few US reality TV shows with that sort of reach.

There have been times when watching Judge Judy was part of my lunchtime routine in both the UK and Australia.

btw guys Judge Faith is the new hotness you guys need to get on the bandwagon

dime.

This is about is illogical as it gets. Logically, someone who generates more revenue gets more income. Whether or not that is necessary or fair is a whole different issue.

Grossly overpaid based on what? The national average, sure. But on her contribution to the revenue for the production company or network? Absolutely not. Judge Judy is the highest rated daytime TV show in the US, and sold worldwide.

It's the same reason the cast of Friends or 2½ Men earned so much per episode. The shows they were a core part of made hundreds of millions of dollars to the entities who produced it.

It sounds like you just begrudge the success of the show. Or that you think that there should be an earning cap on individuals, regardless of how much revenue they personally produce.

Haha, trust me, this isn't the case. I'm not the type of person who gets jealous about people's wealth or success. If I ever get to the point where I'm begrudging a TV show, then please, shoot me dead.

I guess I just find it hard seeing it from anything but a necessity viewpoint.

You need to explain what should be done with the money instead. She makes a show and it generates x dollars. Who should that go to and why?

I know. In my dreams it is a live show and she goes off on her yelling spree telling someone to shut up after she just asked them to speak and then gets clowned.

How much revenue is she generating per day? Tell her what percentage of it she should take, versus what should go to someone else.

Hypothetically, if people are paying (directly or indirectly) millions of dollars per day to watch you perform, how much do you think you should get?

I bet the exec producers, the bailiff, the crew, and even the defendant and plaintiff are getting a piece of that TV pie.

Ok so I was right. It's incredible that one TV judge produces 47 mil worth of revenue though.

Ignoring the fact that the show is fiction and has been off the air for a while, there are still a couple of things wrong with this.

You don't typically chew gum with the same teeth you'd bite into something with. Gum doesn't exactly make for the most accurate dental record. The guys teeth looked fairly normal, eliminating any spacing or abnormalities that would make it incredibly obvious that it was him if, by some miracle, the abnormality was somehow caught on a person's skin and chewing gum.

She prob one of the few people on tv that deserves to make that much. She went to school, got her BA and JD, worked as lawyer, and then got appointed to be a judge. She is also super witty and entertaining.

Starting a thread to specifically criticize someone's salary might just be the very definition of begrudging.

She always looks sweaty. Is she in the south? It seems like everyone is sweaty 24/7 in the south.

Anyways, she's good. But not 900k a day good. Come on.

Except that she is. Because she gets paid that much.

I never realized so many people were so salty over Judge Judy. She's educated and entertaining. She's earned where she's at, haters.

...it certainly is to me. That's not to say I don't enjoy it though.

But you wanna pretend that her show is a good-quality TV then by all means, just do it.
I've learned more from her show and been more entertained by her show than the majority of supposedly "good-quality TV."

Some of the litigants on the show are ridiculous, and the selective YouTube videos don't help, but the vast majority of the cases are pretty mundane, and in between the priceless snark, she offers a helping of practical, legal, and (believe it or not) LIFE advice that really resonates.

There's a reason 10 million people watch her every day and not the other televised judge shows, and it's not just because she can reduce grown men to tears with her unfettered truth bombs. Personalities who survive on bitter snark alone fade quickly, but Judge Judy tempers her bite with a charming, educated, and ironically supremely inviting wit.

She's an idiot. The few episodes I've watched she seems to have her mind made up before the case begins and she says some truly irrational shit to try and bend proceedings in favour of the party she prefers.

Pretty much. I wouldn't call her an idiot, but she definitely has a penchant for sizing up people and making up her mind before all the facts come out. She's often mean for absolutely no reason.
