He followed with a third tweet: "Ha Ha 5 months from now this is all gonna be real intersting."

It's now 5 months from now... BELIEVE.

I know this is probably bullshit, but damn you for making me somewhat hyped for the announcement today. Didn't give a shit and commited to it not being about Spidey, but now I have hope.

Sad, pathetic, and misplaced hope...

I really don't mind Garfield . Just do it without rebooting and without referencing ASM and all will be good.

Garfield the actor is great, but everything else other than the costume in the reboot is trash. Even the direction to make him a "hip" Peter Parker rather than the shrinking violet nerd he's supposed to be to offset his charisma and quipping as Spider-Man.

I don't think the time is here for Marvel to buy back Spidey anyway, but when they do, it needs to be a clean break, no connections. Also, at most, 5-10 mins of origin story in a brief and perhaps tongue in cheek montage "Yadda yadda, bit by radioactive spider, you know the deal by now".

Yup totally, but all this talk about Spidey is setting me up for disappointment even though the new titles would be awesome.

But just to recap the current situation regarding the spidey rights (if i'm correct) disney owns:

- Merchandising rights
- Television rights, that include live action

And Sony only has the rights to the Silver Screen, right?

Barring any behind the scenes secret deals that may or may not be announced tomorrow, I am fairly certain that is exactly the case.

Imagine Marvel getting Spider-Man 'back', but its a joint initiative with Sony and its the current Garfield Spider-Man and not a completely fresh take.

I don't think I could take such a half-measure shitting things up. Reboot that shit perfectly, or don't sully the still going good MCU.

Garfield is great as the character. I have no problem if he's still Spider-Man in the MCU be it by ignoring the fact that ASM even happened and just have the same actor play the character, or some weird plot contrivance where he gets flung into a different dimension. Doesn't matter to me, I'm fine with him as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

I'd also be down with Miles Morales as a new Spider-Man, which I think is more likely than them rebooting Peter yet again.

Blegh I'd hope not. Mile Morales is a terrible character with very little to work with to date, not to mention the tragedy of never getting a damn good movie universe run at all of Peter Parkers trials and tribulations. It boggles my mind how Sony keep flubbing it.

but sometimes we get a Nintendo Direct that ends up having Shulk in Smash and New 3DS

just saying

but yeah sit down
Shulk was something already "known" much like this Cumberbatch stuff. The New 3DS was totally out of left field and wasn't something people were really demanding. So following that, we'll get the Strange announcement and Man-Thing as the last Phase 3 movie.

Just because not a lot has been done with him in the comics doesn't mean he would be shit in the movies. He'd basically be a blank slate they could do anything with. They've already taken liberties with some of the other established characters (which have resulted in the comic versions changing to better fit the movies).

Like I said, I would still be fine with Garfield continuing in the role either somehow following the ASM continuity or completely disregarding it. What I don't see happening is a complete reboot of the Peter Parker character yet again.

They just recently had a Netflix/Daredevil panel at NYCC the other week. So there's probably not much news/info that they would have to reveal today.

Feige said they'll be doing at least 1 established franchise and 1 new franchise every year going forward. So the idea is that 2016 will see Captain America 3 and Doctor Strange, 2017 will be GOTG2 and 2 other films, and 2018 will probably see Thor 3 and 2 others.

Sounds like 2016 and 2017 will be excellent for comic book movies.

Feige comes on stage. "You said you wanted a Black Panther movie, you said you wanted a female - led superhero movie. We listened! Emily Blunt is the Black Panther!"

Things I'm hoping they announce from this:

Katee Sackhoff as Captain Marvel
Black Panther movie
Spidey joining the Marvel Studios' flick proper
Cap 3: Civil War
Midnight Sons (A guy can dream!)

Yep

They would be hyping this as the biggest announcement in movie history if they got the rights to spiderman back

It's not gonna happen, at least not at this event

Plus, there's NO FUCKING WAY if they got the rights back that wouldn't be leaked.

You'd have to employ some CIA type shit to keep that kind of announcement quiet

I'm expecting a Doctor Strange announcement.......and nothing else. Would be awesome to get multiple things but I'm keeping my hype in check.

I am expecting no more than the lead in Dr Strange being announced (whether that's Cumberpatch or not) to keep my expectations in check. Anything more will be icing. Anything less will be sort of expected given their last few "big" announcements.

Really don't see the leak thing being a factor.

I don't think so either but surprises do happen.

If marvel put the internet through all of this shit, just for the Doctor Strange, with a less than impressive casting, then so help me.

AW, what, I didn't know that was a thing. I'm pretty disappointed with what we got now. :(

Apparently she was Favreau's choice, but had to give it up due to Gulliver's Travels.

Other note: She was allegedly offered the role of Peggy Carter, but turned that down as well?

tldr; Emily Blunt, holding them L's since 2010

...What did Marvel do besides announce an event? And going full court press on Doctor Strange is a big deal.

Marvel getting rights to Spidey back, Sam Raimi working on new Trilogy with Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst, Spidey will be in Avengers 3

Also the Amazing Spider-man movies will be banned worldwide, every copy will be destroyed.
