Exactly. They aren't going to spend the dough for this and invite everyone to a paid press conference just to remind everyone of past announcements.

What past announcements? If they announce their full upcoming slate, it would be huge news.

Marvel: And we are also sad to announce the departure of Kevin Feige.

Ike: How do ya like that, Kevin Fudge?!

I can imagine Ike Perlmutter just being the absolute corniest boss in history. Like cartoon/B movie level villain boss.

It's something, people know but are not spilling the beans other than saying , it's going to be a fun morning. Them announcing Doctor strange who we already know about is not a 'fun' morning.

Something's up in Denmark here...

Edit: richiek I ain't believin' you!

Plus he hasn't had a photo taken in 20+ years... Definitely cartoon level boss.

He followed with a third tweet: "Ha Ha 5 months from now this is all gonna be real intersting."

It's now 5 months from now... BELIEVE.

DON'T DO THIS TO ME, BREH.

I feel like they'd be making a way bigger deal out of this if it was going to deliver more than SDCC.

We got the GOAT Avengers 2 trailer, some cool special effects shots (test footage?) of Ant Man, and GOTG2 announcement.

I'm not expecting more than an official update on Strange. No mention of Cap 3 yet :/

I honestly hope it's not Garfield coming to the Avengers. That Spider-Man is awful and shouldn't be associated with the MCU. It would also detract from the other characters who would likely be overshadowed.

Seeing Spidey in the MCU would be great. Don't know if putting Garfield and Sony's iteration is the best choice though.

And would you ever want to put Morales in? He has got no personality compared to Peter.

Well, he's still/forever will be in that learning phase. When he suits up he's not too bad.

There's always Ganke to use for any comic relief.

The Russos said like two or three months ago that they were ready to reveal the title of Captain America 3 "soon." I think it's totally possible we'll get that along with the public announcement of Tony Stark/Iron Man being in the film.

Again though-why would they go through the trouble of renting out a venue, inviting press, etc. Simply to announce titles of previously announced dates? A press release would be more than sufficient for that. There is a reason that this is a new thing for the-there's a reason they want the press there to hear, see and report on this.

Yep. The press will have the title and date for Marvel's next 4 movies. That's a big announcement for the media.

Remember when they said

But still, I had them on the phone this afternoon, and asked them which Avengers they would like to have at their disposal for a Black Widow-sized role.

"That’s such a hard question because we’ve kind of already done that," Joe Russo told me, saying they already built characters into their screenplay. "Do they have to be under contract with Marvel? Maybe they are at another studio."

My first instinct was Namor. Spider-Man seems way more far fetched, but anything is possible, I guess.

Dates are meaningless to press and consumers, they're just announced in advance in a political game between studios to stake their claim on popular slots. Titles are content. They're the big news. When Marvel says they're going to release a movie in July 2019, no one gives a fuck because it means nothing on its own. When Marvel says they're releasing a Black Panther movie, it's huge news because it's confirmation that they're committing to that franchise and now people know what to expect.

If they are ready to announce the title of Captain America 3 and detail the general story outline along with some casting, and they're ready to announce who Doctor Strange is, and they're ready to announce a number of previously unnamed movies they're going to make, then that's more than enough for a major press event.

I just don't want to hear a lot of "Marvel got us hyped for nothing" talk when I'm trying to enjoy the Strange and possibly Civil War announcements.

Things i'm expecting: Amiibo usage for Age of Ultron as well as Howard the Duck and Lockjaw in the movie, and Fin Fang Foom deconfirmed because he's too big for the movies. And also title/premise of Cap 2, official announcment of Cumberstrange, other Phase 3 movies, and some suprises i hope.

And please link me to the invited press events where Marvel did this for their previous films-Comic-Con excluded. I would like to see when they rented a venue to announce a film title and release date.

Fin Fang Foom relegated to the movie novelization yet again. Sigh.

Lmao what

Imagine Marvel getting Spider-Man 'back', but its a joint initiative with Sony and its the current Garfield Spider-Man and not a completely fresh take.

I don't think I could take such a half-measure shitting things up. Reboot that shit perfectly, or don't sully the still going good MCU.

That would still be big news even if that is all we were getting.

Yup totally, but all this talk about Spidey is setting me up for disappointment even though the new titles would be awesome.

But just to recap the current situation regarding the spidey rights (if i'm correct) disney owns:

- Merchandising rights
- Television rights, that include live action

And Sony only has the rights to the Silver Screen, right?

Their press conferences are usually at SDCC. This year the conference blew because they had nothing to announce for one reason or another. If they were waiting for certain deals to be finalized before making the announcement, there's nothing unusual about holding a press conference now rather than waiting for SDCC next year. Just because they didn't do it before doesn't mean anything. Circumstances determine why and when things happen.

I really don't mind Garfield . Just do it without rebooting and without referencing ASM and all will be good.

Ultron took over all the Amiibos~!

To be fair, while SDCC was always their thing, I could see them moving to this format instead. Comic-Con doesn't need to be the stunning star that it was before, especially if they go Apple and just make their own event/news. They control the flow.
