Man, I still remember the first time I got my iPad 1. The feel was fantastic. It was like something I never felt before. Even though I used a smartphone before, the feel was just great. That huge screen. All the apps. Incredible.

How about you, guys?

Are we talking about all time? If so, it's between our first PC or when I got an N64 and played Mario 64 for the first time.

B&O CD players.
Nintendo Wii.
Panasonic Q.
OG Macmini.
Aluminum macbook.
OG iphone.
Iphone 4.
Iphone 6 plus.
Oculus rift.

I think the first time I used my telephone to find a rental car a block away which I paid for by swiping a card on it really made me realize I was in the future.

My black macbook (my first mac) circa 2007. i was spoiled rotten by my parents and my mind was literally blasted into several tiny pieces. i used it until 2011 when i got a pro.

I remember marveling at wifi the first time I used it years and years ago, when it was rare. It was called WaveLAN or something like that back then. Ugly, hulking devices, and the speed was a tiny fraction of what it is now (but still fast enough for the time).

Edit: oh, my first time seeing a bluray movie play on a 1080p television. It was Spider-Man 2 I think. Floored. I couldn't believe how good it looked. At the time I still owned a big CRT standard def TV. I bought a new TV that day.

Mini Disc players (especially the playback-only ones which were super compact)
- it was a ton more shockproof than CD players, more compact and the remote was cool.

Wii
- fuck yeah new futuristic controls! (2014: wtf why did we downgrade in innovation?)

I could maybe understand a TV on a fridge but why on earth would you need Wifi?
It has apps and a fucking browser. Lol. It's an 8 inch display. It's the most useless thing in the world, but my parents bought it. Only cool thing I like about it is that I can check the weather on it before I leave in the morning without pulling my phone out.

They order food for you when you get low...e.g. you only have 3 eggs left, it orders eggs.

I think.

...what does it do that a regular fridge can't? I didn't know they had wifi fridges alol10

the first iPhone was pretty "woah!"

showing off that Koi pond app or the wooden labyrinth game to people was pretty sweet.

other stuff just gradually happened. Cellphones got smaller and are just getting "better" now, Tablets started off as "just" a big iPod touch but as soon as you actually used one, you'd already see yourself browsing on your comfy couch. the iPod was "just" a Diamond Rio that held like 300x as many songs ...

i'm actually pretty amazed at how capable my Raspberry Pi turned out to be.
a tiny WiFi connected XBMC, DLNA linux machine that runs 1080p files flawlessly with a base cost of $50 is pretty great.

Dude dyson vacuums are cool and that bladeless fan too. I always see it at costco. Fuck, do those speakers transport you to a different dimension?

For me it was digital cameras.

You could actually see if the pictures you took were good after you took them, and didn't have to get them developed to see if they were okay or not.

My mind was blown when I saw that and the fact that you could print pictures from your home.

I remember when we first hooked up the PlayStation and started up Madden, it was such a leap coming from the Super Nintendo.

My first time playing Mario 64. But then I was stuck on the system for a very long time until the GCN Metroid Prime bundle came out. I saved up mowing lawns and shoveling, got the system, popped the disk in, and I wanted to die from the opening screen. I forgot to get a memory card, but it didn't matter. Polygons to that is just...DAMN.

Also, I second Gnome. After the "ipod earbuds suck ******" thread, I bought a decent pair and immediately noticed the difference.

Not happened since though. Phones were way too incremental - 3210 was cool but just a smaller zack phone that could also play worm. probably the biggest pop I got from a phone was playing monkey island via scummvm on the nokia communicator around ten years ago. Flat screens weren't impressive because of my expectations - when I first heard the news I was expecting tv's as thin as the oled's we're just starting to see now, sadly the reality was rather different.

i thought the g1 phone was fucking badass. i dont currently own a phone but its still the coolest phone ive ever had. i like the keyboard
