Blizzard announces Overwatch. Team based MP Shooter [Up: Trailers, Screens, More]

Implying Blizzard is good at balancing?

Why don't you have a seat over here. Let me tell you some stories about Starcraft and Diablo 3.

After watching the gameplay I'm interested. I like that the sniper is a defensive character instead of the xX360ANARCHYNOSCOPEXx deal. Also they didn't leave out the possibility of a console release, although that might be difficult balancing all the characters. All aboard the cautiously optimistic train.

All of them are class based MP FPS games. Given Destiny is more Co op focused, but that content seems to dry up quick with nothing for people to do but grind or play competitive MP

I would hardly call CoD or Destiny MP, class based shooters. Battlefield is more class based than either.

Have to say I had no interest in this when it was first announced (all I saw from work was "Blizzard announced team based MP shooter") but after watching the trailer...it looks pretty damn cool. I never really got into TF2 but I love the characters here and all of the special abilities.

Signed up for the beta and will definitely give it a try if it's F2P when it comes out.

I just never could get on board with Blizzard's visual approach. The whole fantasy meets animation meets I am not sure just is not an appealing combination for my own taste. Now I do not necessarily need a game to have visuals I like to play it, but it definitely does help things.

When everyone is op, no one is op.

haha i was gonna make this point too. Is their solution to balance really just making every character overpowered? Because it looks that way.

Has anyone asked about consoles? Because this.. well.. could easily be on console. It looks really cool so I hope so - with Diablo 3 making the move this being on there too wouldn't surprise me.

Wouldn't surprise me if it came to consoles after their success with Diablo 3.

That's the best kind of balance. Making everyone bad leads to a boring game. There's a reason Broodwar is about 100 times more interesting than Starcraft 2.

TF2 definitely needs some competition. Valve treats their fanbase like shit with all the glitches and updates taking forever with zero updates on development.

One of the guys in the audience asked that.

It was the usual "They'll think about it just not yet" reply.

You mean the free game that has a number of updates that rival most MMOs?

Vs

Blizzard and their year+ update droughts for WoW when there is an expansion in development? Even after they promised to reduce those super long droughts?

I'm in for anything Blizzard puts out. It's amazing that this is their first new IP in well over a decade, and I'm excited to see them try their hand at a new genre. Expecting nothing but great things from this now that my faith in Diablo 3 has been restored with RoS and v2.10.

Yup. I've been becoming less and less of a Valve fan. Used to be my #1 dev but bleh.

That last demoman patch was the sole reason why I stopped playing TF2 regularly with friends.

But I can't say Valve treats it's fanbase like shit.

I don't even know what to say to this.

The one that nerfed stickies? That was reverted, unlike the other nerfs.

Was thinking the same thing.
There also will be more and more characters, and they will cost money if the F2P is confirmed.
I wonder how they're thinking to balance them... usual FOTM rotation?

Just let the games with a decent skill ceiling have a shot before releasing this, killing off any sense of competitive FPS scene entirely.

Ugh.

I hate you Blizzard. Seriously.

And still has some of the bugs the game had since release. Like the audio looping for almost a second when opening the options or inventory. TF2 needs a overhaul in many ways that don't involve hats.
Cautiously optimistic for this one.

And blizzard still has horrible content droughts for thier games when they develop new ones even after promising to put a stop to that.

Case in point: MoP -> WoD content drought is the longest one blizzard has done yet.
