Which shows me that Kuvira and her entourage are a bunch of naive fools.

Smug overconfident naive fools.
Love me some smug Kuvira.

This happens when the leader decides to try an assassination attempt. It's like Churchill infiltrating Berlin to kill Hitler in his sleep on the Wolfschanze. And what if Su had succeeded? Bataar was still alive and in theory she should have a few other generals or vice-generals like every army and Su would be on court at the United Nations for murder.

Watched the first three episodes last night, it's not bad so far, but I must ask - is the budget significantly lower this season or what? The animation is worse than the stuff Studio Pierrot was doing back in season 2.

I'll go back and check the thread from the beginning to see if you guys commented on this, but was just looking for a quick reply.

Kuvira needs to be like this for the rest of the season. No more stoic please. Kuvira was so fun to watch and listen to during the fight. I think if she acted like this from the outset people would like her more. She was quite playful while wrecking Korra.

Not that i'm aware of and Bryke haven't mentioned a shorter budget only a shorter time length for the Book 3 & 4 episodes. Might be that they are saving the budget for something big in the later episodes or finale. Still it is no way as bad as some of the Studio Pierrot episodes got during Book 2.

The static characters in the background for the first episode are pretty distracting once you noticed them but that's always been an issue for LOK throughout its run with crowds.

Why does Korra suck so much?

Cause she still hasn't recovered mentally from being "unnecessary" to the world. She's also still recovering from the toll the poison took on her body. While I think she better understands her role as Avatar, she would have been much better off training with Toph or at least with the other air benders instead of jumping back in. All that did was result in her getting curb stomped.

I just realized that Korra was not only useless, she actively hurt the cause. If she weren't there pretty much the same would've happened with Su failing the assassination attemp and Zaofu getting captured. Now she added a huge moral boost to Kuvira, her army and her cause by letting her defeat the legendary avatar, the strongest human being and weapon of the United Nations. Good Job, Korra, you delayed Kuviras victory by five minutes.

Watch Zhu li playing a decisive role to defeating Kuvira. I am not buying that she is loyal to Kuvira for one second.

Really you don't think they are laying it on too heavy with 3 layers of fresh creamery butter? It's sad that they have to telegraph every little thing like their audience.

This is great

Definitely agree with that. Smug Kuvira is a whole lot of fun to watch compared to serious Kuvira.
I loved that

felt like Kuvira was on some Spike Spiegel shit

Wouldn't surprise me if it was inspired by Cowboy Bebop as I recall that Mike and bryan really adore it.
Man really feeling like watching Cowboy Bebop now as I have't watched it for ages.

i'm not going to jump on the korra lackluster performance hate train, but Kiyoshi would have caved kuvira's head in from the get go.

just saijain

This will matter 0% when Korra curbstomps Kuvira tho.

Imagine if Kuvira acted all smug and started to smack talk Wu when he hit on her, that would've been hilarious. She's really good at talking down to people and she has a brain in her head. They should have fun with her. Even Azula loved to beat down people verbally. I really need to preorder the Bebop blu ray, that'll be the perfect time for a rewatch.

I'm afraid so. As always it's about the will and power of individuals who stand above the sheeple. Every major villain was a bender. And when we look at the secondary non-bender ones, we have the earth queen who isn't really credible and owns everything to her blood and Varrick, who is only ambiguously evil. The bigger villains also had big ideas that died with them. The equalist didn't matter anymore after Amon died, it's like a strangley working example of "racism is dead". I didn't play the game, but from what I understood they were reduced to mercenaries who worked together with benders?
Unalaqs motivated northern army suddenly had no urges anymore to take over anything, as if a army would just do what the leader says and then just drop it. Indoctrination is a thing.
And well, the Red Lotus still dwells somewhere, but seemingly didn't care about the woman that restored order or the terribly weakened avatar that could easily taken care off now.
I found the Deus Ex Machina

Why would anybody save Florida?

I ain't gonna lie at first I thought Kuvira went into the avatar state there for half a sec. I was like oh shit, that's why she didn't care about Korra going into the avatar state.

It's so good.

Don't forget to hit the movie during your rewatch

I was really expecting Korra to have some kind of response or throwback to Amon after Kuvira said "This is about Equality!". Even something as simple as "Yeah, that's not the first time I heard that excuse..."

Seeing Taos avatar reminded me of how I loved how unhinged kuvira looked with her hair down. On some "fuck the diplomacy, we can start a war now" shit

The preview for the next episode is pretty sweet.

Good to see Bumi again, and lol at Tenzin going no when Meelo asked if he can get his tattoos.XD

Come on now no need to start comparing Kuvira with Unalaq. I mean just look at that goofy face.

Sure is and I definitely won't forget the movie as it has one of my favourite fights in the series.

Well she's definitely not Unalaq level. You are right. I just meant, she got downgraded to being just above him. :P

Kuvira getting blown over by that wind gust and being all out of breath and sweatin'. Not a good look for a villain so early on in the game.

What is this nonsense!

Kuvira breakin dat sweat this early on. Breathing heavy.

Dude, it was AVATAR STATE wind. It's extra gusty.

Maybe Korra isn't the sharpest tool in the shed?

Which makes me sad, but it's a possibility. Plus, I can't just blame Bryke for everything (although I will).

People just don't bend the metal the other is wearing. Lin didn't do it to Su, and vice versa. Maybe that will change, but Korra still isn't a master metal bender so it makes sense on that level that she couldn't do it.

Just like airbenders don't explode people's lungs until Zaheer sorta did it.

Basically the plot is whatever it needs to be, so stop trying to over think it. In any kind of fantasy or fiction, you can always point towards something and say "why not do this". Especially in the Avatar world where bending could be broken if they were realistic about all the shit it could do.

I guess a fair criticism is that, writers shouldn't write conflict/plot or situations that COULD have an obvious solution. But eh. I give it a pass. The only time I won't, is if it's something already established. So if Korra had already bent metal armor before, then I would be like WHY NOT NOW.

Yeah, I can kinda live with the explanation that she just didn't think of it. But that still leaves the rest of the very uncreative fight that Korra delivered.
