VC2 is the same engine? If so, I would find it hard to believe Sega wouldn't port that as well.

This seems like it will be very successful. I can almost guarantee it will climb up to the top of the Steam sellers list this week.

It seems unlikely that a PSP game would share an engine with the PS3 title.

Picked this up and preloaded. I played some of it on PS3 but got annoyed with the emphasis on finishing as fast as possible. I will just try to play through without worrying about it this time.

Based on what I've read all 3 games list the CANVAS engine, so it's very likely they just heavily modified it to work on portables.

Which always makes me wonder - Why did Sega never attempt a portable de-make of VC1 to compliment both of its sequels being portable games? I wouldn't be surprised if there were some in Japan who held off on VC2 because they wanted to play the predecessor first, only to find the original was for a platform they didn't have.

That's what I liked about Sega's 7th gen engines. They are very scalable. I wish they would do HD remakes of VC 2/3 and Sonic Colors using the respective engines full effects and models.

PC ports HD petition

Somehow I don't think games on Nintendo platforms are going to make that jump.

Different ballgame different rules.

Please no... VC2 is an atrocity.
More like a bad mobile port than a game (almost as bad as the newest Dungeon Keeper).
I liked it and your very unfair. The game was not as good as the first game, but the gameplay was still superb and fun.
And I will triple dip, when it comes out. Everything to give them a reason to develop VC4.

Let's not get crazy. Mechanically, VC2 is better than VC1 in almost every single way. The 1 mechanical feature that is worse is so bad that it pulls the rest of the game down with it, but VC2 is still a fine game.

That's not true though.
VC2 is a good, portable game with flaws. The game-play is just as awesome as the first game with the big drawback of the grind to upgrade units which is a sore point in the game.
The smaller maps are a downgrade compared to the first game but that's the nature of a portable entry, plus the restriction wasn't even that big of a drawback and offered a certain degree of planning.

Also let's be real here, you can't have VC3 on Steam without VC2, so not wanting VC2 on Steam means you don't want VC3 on Steam, and if you don't want VC3 on Steam then we're enemies.

Is it fair to say the characters were poop? I think that's a fair assessment.

All I know specifically is VC2 came out on a completely different system with a completely different trajectory cuz Sega pulled a Namco, and the art and character design is repugnantly bland and generic compared one of VC1's lush, attractive, and distinctive art direction. In 1, the game used anime tropes, in 2 the tropes used the game.

The mind boggles.

I already own the game on PS3, but I'm still getting a little hyped. I went out a bought this today:

I've only had a quick look at it, but it's really indepth. I think it'll be my favourite gaming artbook after the Zelda Hyrule Historia

VC2 is actually the only one I've played so far. It was a bit grindy and the story wasn't anything to commend but I had a good time with it. Comparing it to mobile Dungeon Keeper is an extreme hyperbole.

That is a subjective evaluation anyways, but I do agree, that most characters were rather bland, including the main characters. I did enjoy some of the side characters and was sad that this was in the end no dating sim. The pain of the waifu you never get.

I don't think sane enough would defend the characters and story even when the gameplay is improved.
When I bought the artbook, I skipped it, just having VC1 and VC3 artbook because even from the cover it just too jarring.

I will say that the plot and characters are definitely the weakest in the trilogy. There's still stuff to like, but fuck if the high school drama of it all doesn't completely cheapen everything.

I'll put it this way, I want a Valkyria closer to the visual fidelity of VC1. Looking at screens and videos of the sequels, "[My eyes] don't got any time for that."

One can dream.

Well, it was on a totally different console. No way PSP could look as good as the PS3. Thus I hope they may have the bravery of doing a HD remake to put it in the style of the first game or something.

I know that, which is why I wish they weren't relegated to the PSP to begin with. I'd likely accept HD remakes though, assuming they were well-done.

It's very needed if they expect people to play it. I own it for the PSP, but bought it again for the Vita as soon as the PC news came to support the franchise. And it looks terrible even on the slightly bigger and better screen of the Vita. It would look absolutely terrible on a full HD monitor.

Oh come on, you know you love to bitch about ports you don't like.

This is nothing to do with potential port quality.
The game terrible. Story was anime trope central, maps were constantly reused, te game required grinding to forward the story, aiming with PSP clitnub was unfun. Music was the only thing I liked about the game, and of course Sega being Sega, they had to encrypt the music data, so I'm not even able to get a good gamerip out of the game.

VC3HD? Sure.
VC3HD bundled with VC2HD? Sure
VC2HD? No buy from me.

It was a good artbook. Many characters in VC2 were annoying (though even Avan and his idiotic laugh grew up on me), but the art itself was good. If there's one thing I'm glad about, is that I didn't have to buy the artbook for VC2 and 3 twice like I did for VC1, where I first purchased the Japanese one and then the English one.

See, that's besides the point! Notice how I said "you know you like to bitch about ports you don't like", not "we know you like to bitch about ports you don't like"

That type of stealth blackmail talk reminds me of the VC3 fiasco

Come on guys, let's all buy VC2 so that VC3 will be back on PS3!!!(?)

Why would it be back on PS3? Wouldn't it just give them the wrong idea to stick on portables?

...nonsense!

So, your point is, we should not buy it, so it doesn't come for PC again... what?

I already own the game and all the DLC, but I could double-dip just to show some support. I wish they localize the third game on any support, PC included...

Awesome news! I'll definitely support this game again. I wonder if they will do anything to change the grading system for missions?
Curious to know what is the issue with the grading system? (although I would prefer it a bit like Advance Wars, with Power and Defense alongside speed)

Buy what you want to buy then whatever happens, happens. It's not your duty to buy a bad game to get the better one, it's their job to make good games period.

No one here is telling people to buy Yakuza games in hope that VC2 and VC3 gets released on Steam, though.

From what I've heard about VC2, icecream and cohorts would love it.

That's enough of a warning sign for me to stay away, even if it's in a series I like (well, the first game at least).

Doesn't Parakeet like it as well? Whatever, I'm sure VC2's much better than Mobile Dungeon Keeper, that game's criminal.

What's the source on CANVAS being used for the PSP games? Even if they lack the processing power for cross-hatching and other visual techniques, the engine could still have been downported.

This exchange on the Steam forums made me laugh:
