FWIW, I would think that they also don't want the reputation of losing to a kid. They were clearly trying.

Yup. Good for her. I bet you she felt great. I remember beating the crap outta my dad and his buddies in Tony Hawk. They hated that.

I mean seriously. You can't beat a kid who skips homework.

I think this was likely either staged or the players were letting her win. Not that I'm saying she's not a good player, or anything bad was going on, but this seems a bit too incredible to be true.

Maybe they were just nice to a little girl and don't want to make her cry? I often (not always) let kids win, becausw they turn into monsters, when they lose.

Nah, she clearly knew what she was doing. Granted, she made plenty of mistakes, but I've never seen a better 10 year-old in my entire life. At that age, I didn't even know what edge guarding was.

You can't stage the stuff she's pulling off in the video.

How did she even train for this?
Apparently she learned that Diddy Kong just by watching other people play. That's some Mozart shit.

I taught my little brother when he was 4 years old how to wavedash, dash dance, and L Cancel in Melee. Some kids just learn fast. :P

It's weird that this notion that kids can't excel at video games exists.

Who are Nintendo games largely created for? Who has the most time available and the patience to dedicate to a game?

She's amazing, but not because she's 10 or a girl.

Damn she's good. I just wish the video was better though. I hope she plays some real tournaments in the future with proper set ups.

I wonder why kids being really good at video games is "surprising".

I was way better at Smash then (compartively, since it was smash 64) than I am now.
Same thing for Tetris Attack. getting 9x like it was nothing.

Kids git good.

EDIT:
Wait, she learned Diddy by watching or something?
That's pretty insane.

I've played with and against 6 year olds on the pro level on pc, and that was back in '04. I'm sure this is exactly what Sakurai was going for with making smash more accessible.

Exactly. I beat Lost Levels with barely any effort at 8 and balk at the idea at 24.

I was probably better at some video games than I am right now when I was 12, it's not impossible that some kids are very good. However, what she is doing is very impressive. Being this good at a precise game without having had as much time to practice and experience against other players is something. She pulls off some great stuff with all three characters she picked.

That's crazy impressive. I don't think I could ever be that proficient in a game, even if I still had the rapid learning abilities of my ten-year-old self.

I don't understand this at all. Reaction times peak at age 24, not age 12, and people do typically learn how to play better as they play more and more.

You may spend less time playing games, making you fall out of practice, but she's playing as good as some people who spend like 100% of their free time playing this game.

I would get destroyed if I got into a smash match with her.I'm okay at the smash games, but not amazing.

ahahahaha

Listening to all those manchildren is so much fun

It wasn't even just proper combos. She wall teched, understood item toss/dropping, had good/great DI, amazing patience and reads and knew how to stay out of bad situations. It's just so wild knowing she's 10 doing even two of these things simultaneously. Having the whole kit is just whoa.

Ah, so that's why I couldn't comprehend just what in the hell I was doing/playing when I tried the 3DS demo. Game is too much for a FG noob like me.
