I only very casually watch or follow Smash, and him and Prog and one or two other folks are the only people I follow from that scene, in large part because he seems very sincere and honest. I am going to be incredibly disappointed if he was in on this, and honestly I don't know how it would be possible for him not to be.

I feel the opposite, because Capcom Cup is a marquee SF event every year.
Or used to be, or whatever. Haven't been following how they run their events in a while.
There are some good european players, I remember WSO had pretty hype Marvel weekly tourneys back in the day, I miss them
