Sonic Boom Street Date (and fans' hearts) Broken

This is a perfect representation of how I feel watching finished gameplay of this...

Well that just about sums it up.

I hope that time travel is never invented so that child me never has to see this. Sonic just cannot seem to catch a break.

nah man
we use time travel to threaten Sega with future death ray guns if they try to fuck up Sonic in the future

I really liked NSMBU, art style aside. I felt the level design was really strong.

Meanwhile, I feel like Generations had strong art design but really weak content overall.

I've got to disagree, personally. I thought Generations had great content and I didn't really feel NSMBU's was that strong. It was the only NSMB game I felt compelled to 100%, so it's probably my favorite one of those, but I donno. It just didn't click for me. I didn't think the level design was all that memorable.

Generations 2? What games would they put in there?
Or more like a Sonic Colors2?

They wouldn't have to pick new games. They only had 1 level from each game and there are plenty of choices for other levels. Maybe we can have a sequel where there's more than 3 levels that aren't city levels!

"There's a reason why they're Ex-Naughty Dog employees"
So everyone was right at the reveal trailer, this game still looks like ass. The fact that Sega is actually holding back review copies till launch (something they've never done before with Sonic, not even Shadow or 06) just screams how little confidence they have in this.

I'm not really sure what they were trying to do with Boom. First they wanted to make it a reimagining of Sonic, then they said a sub series, and now it's like they don't even care what happens. I can't even say they have hope for the show because that shit airs at 6am on a Saturday. At some point in development Sega just said fuck it, we don't care.

Hopefully Sonic Team's game is decent.

They had the right idea bringing back the core team as part of Sonic again. In fact, I think that Sonic only games should really die. My favourite ones are games that actually give me some variation of gameplay (Sonic 2, 3&Knuckles, Advance series, Rush, etc).

The problem is how they executed it here. Unfortunatelly, some people will try to make as having "shitty" friends playable make a Sonic game worse.

I genuinely feel bad for everyone who contributed to making this game a reality.

"We experimented with different colors and surface features on the characters, such as fur or scales, and quickly Sonic Team came back with their discomfort of that. They were great guardrails for us to understand when we were deviating too far from the character. Without their input, the character would have been a lot more alien and different from what Sonic is known for." Discomfort may be putting things mildly, particularly in the case of Takashi Iizuka, the current head of Sega's Sonic Team in Japan. As Rafei recalled, "Early on, when we had our first review of all the crazy things we wanted to try, Iizuka-san came down to Los Angeles and looked through all the different concepts."

"I felt sorry for the guy because sometimes he couldn't actually look at the screen--it was too traumatic seeing all the crazy stuff we wanted to do. Over the course of that meeting, when we were coming up with new ideas, we had a very sincere--just two adults talking--conversation about why a character should or should not wear pants, and that was a very surreal moment in my life and my career," Rafei continued. "But it helped us understand the rules of clothing in this universe. Any small adjustment went a very long way, so we had to be very careful."

You know when Takashi Iizuka is the voice of reason things are fucked up. Sega probably just eventually said "Fuck it! It can't be worse than Sonic 06." I'm curious to see how batshit their original ideas were.

Sounds like BRB put in more work in how the characters look instead of the game itself.

That isn't saying much

The character design in this game is lazy.

No no , here is the thing there are versions of sonic characters with clothes on they have drawn that look ok. They look fine. So I'm interested, in what the fuck was actually shown, that they went " Nope"

I dunno, it sounds like they may have had a much more solid, interesting take, and perhaps they eventually settled for far less to satisfy SEGA.

God...this game is making me stare at my copy of Sonic Lost Worlds and think to myself ".....You know what, you weren't that bad. Actually pretty fun if you sped through levels and didn't worry too much about collectibles. Sure you may have copied a lot of Mario concepts, but Mario's fun. And those downloadable levels sure were neat."

I saw the framerate drops in the opening sequence and immediately closed the tab.

Nope.

No game should perform that badly from the get-go. Not even if it's geared towards a children's audience.

Eh, it is a game made to sell a cartoon that will probably get a couple of seasons.

As a Sonic fan I will probably just skip it.
I don't have a WiiU yet anyway.

Wonder how that 3DS game is.

Shadow looks so god damn awkward in this game.

I mean, I'm not the biggest fan of him and he normally looks really similar to Sonic, but here he literally looks like they just re-textured Sonic's model and called it a day.

Do you have a 3DS? There's a demo right now.

It's...really odd. Sort of open-world, side-scrolling levels where you travel around collecting stuff.

There's a demo on the eShop.

Spoiler alert:
it's ass
