Sonic Boom Street Date (and fans' hearts) Broken

Bahaha,.. man part of me's starting to feel bad for the developers now.

Some of the cutscenes are actually kinda nicely animated and humorous, though I hate how they've changed Knuckles and Amy. I have a feeling the animated show will be a lot more popular (with kids anyway).

So many wrong things in just 1 minute of footage:

-Knuckles clipping into an NPC in the middle of a cutscene.
-The ship entering and leaving has no sound or special effects to accompany it. It's literally just translating the object.
-The shadow for the ship being rendered at like 5 fps.
-Tails exclaiming that Lyric is attacking when no enemies show up.
-The ship disappearing before it goes completely out of sight.

I think I want to play this game just to see how much of a disaster it is lol.

It looks like the cutscene glitched. I imagine it was supposed to show the ship with a different camera, then cut to a scene showing enemies attacking. You weren't supposed to see the ship poof out of existence.

Oh wow, it runs at like 20 fps. I thought it was just the video encoding but, when they commented on it, the game jumped to a cutscene running at 30 fps instead. It's really that bad.

Considering it looks much worse than Lost World, which ran at 60 fps, I'm going to go ahead and say that CryEngine was a terrible terrible fit for the Wii U.

Sonic Boom is SEGA making up for the fact that Sonic 06 wasn't on a Nintendo system.
To be fair, Sonic 06 actually runs at 60 fps (mostly) while this runs at like 15 fps most of the time. I'd say Sonic 06 actually looks quite a bit nicer too in a lot of ways.

As I've gone through the thread I've seen so many people slamming SEGA, but SEGA didn't make this game...

Mostly 60 and 15 fps most of the time? This does not compute.

I've always considered shovel ware game irresponsible to release, a quick buck for a product that puts many children off gaming as a whole after they see the quality of the game. It may not be harmful to the industry, but it limits its growth I would think.

So I'm pretty disappointed to see SEGA resorting to it, especially with their flagship franchise. I wish they'd put the effort in and properly funded this game. But I guess it would have been risky. Plus if I had to guess, SEGA maybe regrets their Nintendo partnership after the Wii U hasn't taken off, so they didn't see a reason to put effort into a game almost guaranteed to get low sales.

It's SEGA who decided that the game must be out now alongside the show despite the game clearly not being finished yet. If anything I would put more blame on Sega.

Isn't it scary that in hindsight Shadow the Hedgehog and 06 were not the worst of it?

I was under the impression that SEGA pretty much gave them complete creative freedom from the interviews.

Sounds like a mistake on Sega's part, then, doesn't it? I'm not sure why you want to absolve Sega from blame here. It's their flagship property, but you wouldn't know it with how they've treated it here.

SEGA should be happy that this game is exclusive to Wii U because it means that less kids will play it and get a terrible impression of the Sonic Boom series.

Their name is on the box, and they have control of who they let make Sonic games.
In a way it feels like they were taken for a ride with this one not unlike the Colonial Marines situation. The lineage of Big Red Button would suggest that they might know a thing or two about platformers.

Their platformers, not Sonic, which by no means is your basic platformer.

Id still rather play this than dragon age, destiny, cod, assassins creed etc.

It's funny seeing you manchilds pick apart a game that's not even aimed at you

Who was the target audience for games like Sonic Generations, Super Mario 3D World, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze etc...?

Because not only were they all great, but I thought they looked great before I played them.
This game however, looks like a big sweaty turd regardless of who it's aimed at.

It's clear that they were trying to make something different from a normal Sonic game, and that could have been OK, but they seem to have failed.
while there's nothing wrong with being different, its more like they tried to drag the series to their comfort zone in design. Which isn't really strong enough to carry a Sonic game imo.

Hopefully this game is just Sega trying to plow through the Nintendo exclusive Sonic games they're contracted to do so they can release a Sonic Generations 2 on multiple platforms.
