Sonic Boom Street Date (and fans' hearts) Broken

"The only thing that makes you even weaker is your loyalty to your pathetic friends!"

Edit: Yoooooo did he just roundhouse kick Tails? Shadow needs to chill.

Honestly, it looks like it would have been a decent game if they hadn't cancelled the PS4/X1 version in lieu of the exclusivity deal. It must have been painful for the team to downgrade to such an extreme just to get it running on the WiiU. The performance is so abysmal, it couldnt be any clearer that the WiiU was not the lead console.

God what a clusterfuck. To think some people actually had hope after Colors and Generations that the franchise would at least climb its way out of embarrassing mediocrity. I actually feel bad for anyone who developed this game, think how it must be to have spent months/years working on this and then get your name attached to it.

I honestly think the engine or the platform it's released on isn't the problem, look at Crysis 2/3 on consoles, that has fairly detailed stuff despite the age of the consoles. I think it's more the developers unable to get it running properly or that video was more a concept video in the first place.

ITs never been said that the game was on x1 or ps4

Nintendo paid for this? Why?

Worst moneyhatted exclusive of all time? Possibly.

I'm beginning to think this wasn't always intended to be Wii U exclusive at all, and that production got gutted at some point during development so that SEGA could fulfill their contract a bit earlier.

So when Lost Worlds didn't sell well did Nintendo cut funding to this or something? I mean I know they paid for it, but did they just say "That's it, no more money, deliver what you have or gtfo"

It's about what expected, the game looks very meh, but hey, the first episode of the cartoon was pretty good. Is what it is.

Generations 2, Sega. It was so simple. So so simple. How do you mess up like this?

Edit: The more I think about it, the more I just can't make any sense of Sega's decisions. Generations comes out, it gets actually good reviews, people love it and it isn't a broken mess. The best Sonic game to come out in years.

Then, instead of sticking with the formula, making improvements and making more games they already know people will like...they divert from the Generations direction for NO GOOD REASON. Why?! It doesn't make any sense!

Not even any DLC for Generations either. I have no idea what Sega are doing. That said, Boom isn't made by their main Sonic Team iirc so I'm hoping they're working on something better.

Oh god I just realised they brought the front mouths back, why why whyyyyy. Sonic always looks better with a side mouth

I'm a pretty big Sonic fan, but I feel like I'm *never* going to want to play this game.

That said, I'm TOTALLY going to *watch* the WHOLE thing, with popcorn. While drunk.

Regarding the moneyhatting thing, I'm guessing Nintendo just paid Sega to develop three exclusive Sonic games for them, but they (Nintendo) weren't involved in any creative and developing process.

Unlike Bayonetta 2, which was moneyhatted but also heavily supervised by Nintendo during production.

My favorite thing about the Shadow bit is that they went to the trouble of foreshadowing a scene that amounts to nothing more than "I'm an asshole. Fight me."

This thread just sold me on the game. This is a 100% day one purchase now. If you told me that there was a game coming out that actually surpasses Sonic 06 in shittyness, how could I, in good faith, miss such a spectacular trainwreck? This is going to be entertaining as fuck.
Oh my christ, this *isnt* something fanmade out of source filmmaker? Ahahaha.

AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

It's going to be a fun winter.

There's better Sonic SFM stuff out there, lol.

I mean, they still basically just flushed money down the toilet. That could have been money spent on a Nintendo 64 Virtual Console team. Anything is better than this lol.

Lost Worlds was just sooooo Mario Galaxy like that I figured Nintendo had to of lent a hand in development. They may have just stepped away from this one though. Anyone have any articles referencing their level of involvement?

Fuck me, I just watched some more videos, that ship ahahaha

Apparently BRB posted a wanted ad for a major third party cross-gen game with mobile integration about two years ago. It's very possible something fishy happened during production.

Bayonetta 2 wasn't moneyhatted. Nobody wanted to publish it until Nintendo stepped up.

Oh man these facial expressions

The reviews for this game are gonna be a disaster.

I expected this, after hearing that reviews won't drop until the game does. Nearly every release that has that happen has something shady about it.

What's shady here is simply what we've already seen. :P

I think it goes without saying that this game will be yet another bomb for Sega and the Sonic IP... Given how Sega is massively cutting back on packaged software (again) and Sonic has been not only under performing, but outright costing the company money. I'm beginning to wonder if the IP might be in actual danger from disappearing from shelf's for consoles and PC in the not too distant future.

I mean, ok, let's say Sonic Teams next mainline Sonic game comes out, ins't terrible, and manages a meager few million like most of the other (relatively successful) recent entries... now what? If Lost World is any indication, the 'new blood' that came in following 06 seems to be getting burnt out. I can't really see the brand doing anything but continuing to diminish from here on out.

They really needed to focus on making sequels instead of constantly, desperately, throwing things out and creating new games that tried to put a twist on the established formula. Why we never saw Unleashed 2, Generations 2, colors 2 is beyond me. They could have actually built off of prior recognition and improved and established frameworks instead of trying to awkwardly adapt 'what worked' into the next game (see Colors -> Lost World)

Sega remains an abject reminder to Nintendo of what happens to companies that go third party. Imagine a Mario game that turned out like this.

Well, on the bright side that Sonic exclusivity deal is almost over and hopefully they'll start caring again.

Start caring again? They haven't cared in years. This isn't going to change when the deal ends. The only way for sonic to improve, is for the ip to go to someone else (someone like nintendo funnily enough).

I loved Sonic Generations, but I do know some Sonic fans didn't like the whole Boosting style of gameplay; mainly retro Sonic fans who believe Sonic is more than just a speeding car. Solid platforming and precise control is also important in a Sonic game. I have a feeling Sega listened to these fans and Lost World was the result. More control over Sonic, much more platforming, but now feels way more like a Mario game than a Sonic game...

Looks dire. The cartoon was pretty fun though.

It's amusing that they had a great cartoon villain name in Robotnik, phased that out in favor of Eggman, then abandoned his egg-shaped physique. His name is no longer sinister and it's not even descriptive. Like it's just his second name.

This is the first of the new footage I've watched. Yeah I still don't get it. This looked fine to me. Can't speak for the sound as I watched it with no sound, but the gameplay in this vid looks fine to me. I really get the feeling this is gonna be my new Heroes.

Someone link me to some gameplay that shows the awfulness people are talking about. Gameplay wise.

If you take a crap game and make the visuals more pleasing, you sadly don't end up with a decent game, but a crappy one. At Gamescom at least, the visuals were the smallest of all problems the game had. In fact, I'd say the visuals were the best aspect of the game.
