Sonic Boom Street Date (and fans' hearts) Broken

i feel bad for sega, they can't really win when it comes to sonic no matter what, the brand is just poisoned beyond all belief.

They chose to release the game in this state. I'm sure that the developers ideally needed several more months to work on it.

LOL @ the video description.

I am beginning to think that the staff of Big Red Button are EX Naughty Dog developers for good reason...

Burn!

what? Why feel bad for SEGA? They let this abomination happen. It's not like this is a good game and everyone is shitting on it 'cause of a poisoned well. It's that... well, look at the damn thing. I mean seriously. Gaming isn't a charity, we spend money on this shit. SEGA should have tried harder and made sure Big Red Button knew what the heck they were doing.

Didn't this game take like 2-3 years.

I dunno doesn't that sound like enough time to you?

I'm starting to wonder if they spent a good portion of that time doing concepts and gameplay ideas before actually starting on the game. Didn't Sega recently admit Generations only started Development in 2010, instead of the 3 years like they said before?

it's more like feeling bad for an alcoholic when they can't stop harming themselves, don't get me wrong.

just there's no where to turn with sonic that makes much sense right now. to be quite honest i think the developers are still at fault because, well, even if the game wasn't broken the gameplay design choices are a decade behind.

The awful design decisions have been there since it was revealed. It takes quite the mindset to grab everything that everyone complained about Sonic games in the past decade and implement it all over again in a single game.

From the Ex-Naughty Dog employee's that got caught jackin off in the copy room, comes SONIC BOOM...

It's the only explanation...

That would explain the lack of other mainstays being playable ( because its sonic generations, why the hell weren't their classic knuckles levels ) and the raw ass ass but explained away ass boss fights.

" why isn't shadow using all his powers"

" its totally not that we didn't design the system enough to allow for freeer movement in 3d space to the point where its hard to even go backwards in 3d space so that's why the entire overworld is in 2d. Its totally not that, thats why you fight sa2 shadow and not the one with all the powers that would have made an interesting boss fight because reasons, "

I like this
it is so bad that it is amusing.... like you want to play it just to see how bad it is

I never felt like this for a very long time (at least not since two gens ago)

You need to wait until Sonic Generations 3 and Knuckles before you get to go through those.

Also, looking at the Wikipedia entry:

Were they looking at a totally different game?

Vertical slice of game and/or lack of platformers in general? How it became best Nintendo exclusive when Bayo 2 was on the docket is beyond me.

Generations always seemed rushed to me.

Sonic Colors remains the one modern day Sonic game that feels as if Sega "got it", figured out what to do with Sonic in the present day, and gave the game the time, budget, and staff it needed.

I really wished they'd have used Colors as the base for Sonic moving forward. Sadly, it does seem Sega themselves really doesn't know what anyone wants - IIRC there was an interview about Sonic Colors and Sonic 4 where they literally guessed that maybe kids would like Colors because it was funny and adult Sonic fans would prefer Sonic 4 because it looked retro.

But they sounded unsure who would even go for which game and why. Or why each game should be the way it was.

I didn't think it could be worse than that awful 3DS demox but looks like it us. Jesus.

Any idea what sonic team are up up to? Are they even still alive?

Man I can get over Knuckle's dumbass new design but that part at the beginning of the game when he doesn't even know which way left or right is, c'mon Sega. Ruin some other character.

Well, I'm not a Sonic fan and maybe, because of that, I didn't see all these horribleness. Is a Ratchet-Jak like plataformer with kiddy humor that does not look as bad as people say. IMO. I'm interested in playing to see if the controls are good. But it looks ok.

Definitely. I feel like if this was a new IP people wouldn't be hating on this anywhere near as much.

Yeah, Colors was initially being aimed at the kid demographic. Then the rest of the fanbase went ape for it thanks to a good E3 showing and marketing immediately changed its tune, while Sonic 4's tepid reception saw it go from being the headlining title of the year to something that they didn't really want to talk about. Pretty funny at the time.
