Legend of Korra Book 4: Balance |OT| A Feast of Crows

I'm biased because I grew up with Spongebob. I actually saw the series premiere live on TV (Same with South Park). So it's hard to divorce myself from the show without a nostalgic bias. I also haven't re-visited it. That said, I think most people say that Spongebob was great for the first couple of seasons and died with the movie?
After the movie, it's fair to say it died.

Even as a kid you just kinda know it's not the same.

Yeah after the movie it was never the same as Stephen Hillenburg wanted to end the show after the movie but Nick wanted more episodes so he resigned as showrunner for the show and since then it's being all downhill in terms of quality.

SpongeBob is a way better show than Korra

kuvira shoulda been the avatar man, this show seasons 1, 2, 3 shoulda been the legend of kuvira

more likable, more badass, and more personality than korra in the ~4 episodes she's been in

I had the same reaction while watching Kill La Kill, but Kuvira is no Satsuki.

I thought it would be interesting if Korra actually beat Kuvira, but it basically didn't change much or anything at all. Either the troops were loyal to Kuvira and it still goes on or Kuvira breaks out and regains control and it continues. She learns that sometimes violence doesn't solve anything and she learns how to defeat Kuvira by diplomatic means.

I think almost every show I have seen have the hero lose at first to come back and win later so it would be fun to see something different for a change.

I just wish people could understand that, just because a plot is logical/makes sense, doesn't always mean it makes for a good story. So much focus of the Korra vs Kuvira fight (those against it or those defending it), sometimes miss that point.

EDIT: If someone loved the fight, and has no issue with any of it, that is more than fine. I just think sometimes we get hung up on semantics, and it doesn't really address the issue some have. For those that don't have an issue, it might seem as petty or nitpicking. For those that do have an issue, they just see it as formulaic story beats, and not being thrilled about how the plot is progressing (or not progressing). Just depends on what side of the coin you are on.

Double Edit: getting into the talk of Korra's overall fighting, I think that can play into what I said above. Like, physically it makes sense why she was weak against Kuvira. It also makes sense that Kuvira would toy with Korra as she gets off on domination. BUT....the overall impact of this fight sequence (in the context of the overall season) is IMO not a very good one. As someone else said above, it really feels like the first 5 episodes were a whole lot of running in place, that we are now back to square one, and it kind of framed Kuvira as not that good of a threat. It was just a weird/predictable sequence. That I really think Bryke should have done something different with.

Of course, just my 2 cents.

I like Kuvira as a villain, but I agree that she isn't THE most threatening villain Korra has faced (at least in terms of pure power and bending ability).

BUT, that's actually not the point of Kuvira. Bryan and Mike have said that this season is more about Korra being her worst enemy, or like Katara said, "the mind can be a powerful ally...or, it can be your worst enemy," a direct reference to Nega-Korra. Not a reference by Katara herself, but by the show.

That point, the one about Korra being her own worst enemy, could be a bit more clearer of course, but I think a lot a people are overlooking that fact when judging Kuvira's role in Book 4.

Once Korra fully understands or learns to surpass her own traumas, or surpass them to a point where she can at least learn to live with them, Kuvira will probably by then be this maniacal villain with a purple super spirit laser, and Korra's character development would come full circle.

That's the plan of course, not judging whether it's being executed successfully or not. Although, this analysis of the Korra Kuvira fight is pretty awesome and shows just how similar Korra and Kuvira are, even in fighting style.

SpongeBob's first few seasons are easily in the pantheon of great cartoons. That's all time stuff, there. Its recent episodes are not nearly as good.

That write up on how Kuvira fights was damn pleasant to read.

The best out there. She's going to have a field day with the propaganda thanks to Suyin and Korra's actions in the latest episode.
Wonder if they'll show Korra getting heckled by Kuvira supporters in Republic City.
She probably has a mover reel of her flinging Korra all over the place. Will probably show it on like a giant building of the next city she conquers with happy fun time music or some shit.

"Come watch The Great Uniter toss Avatar Korra like a giant ponytailed volleyball Narrated by me Shiro Shinobi. Come one come all! watch it or be reeducated!"
Sounds fun.

Would pay to see this.
Heh you'd pay to see anything involving Kuvira wouldn't ya.

Speaking of volleyball, we need another theater/play episode.

That's my favorite episode from all of ATLA.
I would like to see Ember Island Players Kuvira. That one's probably a guy and beats Korra with his giant eyebrows...then once Kuvira finds out she's portrayed as a guy she takes them to a rekuviracation camp.

...And he's never seen again.
I'm already picturing a scene with some confused Dai Li guards at a Re-Kuviracation camp as you ask to buy some Re-Kuviracation videos.

Better than asking for fanart.

This is pretty neat.
Mike DiMartino amidst a stockpile of animation drawings at Studio Mir in Seoul. Each folder is a single shot of hand-drawn animation. So… many… drawings…. (This photo was Mike’s idea. I stole it. But he’s in the pic so it’s all good.)

Flying is awesome, bro. ;_;
You sayin' Kuvira can't stop that shell mid-air?
You're gravely mistaken my friend.
I'd prefer to run around Flash style. Doesn't also help I have a fear of heights,
Not if the shell is platinum. Checkmate!

That's a lot of still images of Kuvira.

And the best powers are Spider-Powers. #fact I share your fear of heights, though.
