Dragon Age: Inquisition Review Thread

I'm a fan of the series so I was all ready planning to get this despite the reviews.
The high scores makes the wait even worse though.

Scores are a lot better than I expected, consider my interest piqued.

Should I play Origins before this one?

As much as it gets shit (mountain'd) on, I'd actually suggest Dragon Age 2, as it's events seem to be far more relevant to the series and the stuff leading into DA:I.

But really you should play it all.

Can anyone recommend a good vpn for Mexico.

Opted to get this for PC over PS4 and never done the vpn afore. Though I've read up and learnt how.

A PM would be fine if you don't wanna make it public

The Hola extension for Firefox or Chrome works.

I've bought BF4, Fifa and DA this way without any problems.

I used Hola! (the chrome extension) and it worked perfectly - saved $40 NZD on the deluxe digital edition... that's how much they rip us down in Hobbiton on video games :P haha.

how accessible are games like this? I'm incredibly curious about it, but I don't have tons of time to sink into something without it giving something back - I'm happy to get lost in a game if it is worth it, I did that with Dark Souls. But it has to be pretty special

Also something I can see playing on PS4 rather than PC, as just wandering around is something I can do in the evening while my wife is reading etc - I don't need to be locked away.

It's meant for mainstream, so very accessible.

But the Ubisoft quantity of sidequests/collectibles might put you off.

Already preordered some weeks ago, but never read any previews or watched trailers. Going blind now until next week. Can't wait.

Only an 8.8 from IGN? Wat? Still though, awesome scores, as I expected. I can't wait to pick this up whenever I have the time to put into it.

Thanks for the help

I would personally... depends if you don't mind playing Inquisition a bit after release or not though.

No way you could do Origins justice before release unless you played for 10 hours a day on the go... if you could do that, you may just make it.

I would recommend playing Origins and Awakening, read 1 novel or get a summation of them, read the comics, Watch DA2's cutscenes on youtube, watch the manga and the Machinima series... and then you'll be in a prime position to play Inquisition.

DA2 is good, but you'll be messing around forever if you play that too.. you'll need the embrace of the Inquisition of then my friend :)

I'm so glad this is reviewing well, I liked the look of the reveal trailer, wasn't impressed by the twitch streams, but it seems it all came together in the end.

So, this will be the first game that I'll make use of EA access thingy.

Anybody knows when the preview is up on access?

I can confirm that this is a stellar game -- one of the year's best -- but I'm surprised how many sites published full reviews before the PS4 patch that fixes all the freezes is live.

But the Ubisoft quantity of sidequests/collectibles might put you off.

Same time Kotaku 11 things to know article says that there is a lot more epic side quests to do and lazy Ubisoft type of collectible chasing isn't as prevalent.

So which is it then? Mostly boring collectibles chasing for no reward [e.g. Ass Creeds] or more epic stuff?

RPGFan also leads toward epic stuff.

From the outset, I worried that these large places would be little more than window-dressing to hide a cynical AAA checkbox-extravaganza. My concern was that banal objectives like "Close 6 rifts" and "kill 10 rams" would offer little real impetus to comb the rolling hills and dry plains. While it's true that there is some sense of that, I thankfully found those objectives to more often be supporting goals that get the player exploring the world and undertaking far more interesting quests. Closing those rifts might take you to a corner of one region where a smuggling cartel conspires to make the place inhospital to refugees so that they might continue an illicit mining operation. Hunting those rams could lead to ancient ruins full of world-building lore and powerful magical items. So, the answer is yes: this game has some bland Fed-Ex quests. However, they're punctuated by an utterly gorgeous world and far more interesting objectives often enough that they feel more like side distractions that give you a sense of accomplishment in the midst of your exploration, rather than the centerpiece of the entire experience.

Waiting for Kotaku to play the game a second time.

My issue with all these reviews is that they don't know if their choices mattered in the end. I would also like to know if the endings actually vary like they've said.

Edit: I'm still gonna purchase it day 1 but I feel that this should be accounted when doing a review for this game.

Erm.. eheh... I meant Ubisoft quantity, didn't say quality <_<"" right guys, right?

Looks like I just got an external hard drive for the Xbone right on time. Damn you EA Access. 500 gigs doesn't go very far at all.

Looking forward to this quite a bit, but I'm unsure whether to get deluxe or not. Anyone have an opinion as to whether the the extra shit is actually worth it? I'd pay $63 vs $54.

I think common opinion is that DDE isn't worth it if not into OSTs.

Pretty crazy we are getting reviews like 10 days before the game even comes out!

It's only a week here in NA until it comes out but I think it just shows total confidence from both Bioware and EA in their product to let the lid off it early; the obvious hopeful knock-on effect being that it locks in even more pre-orders for a larger sell-through impact on Day 1.

Now what will be interesting to see is if any of the retailers are brave enough to leverage the positive press around DA:I and offer it up in one of their Black Friday sales a mere two weeks removed from its release.

Maybe they thought the game's score was justified even with some freezing issues, or are you saying you can't review a game with technical problems?

I take the critical praise with a grain of salt. With Bioware, we have been burned in the past.

Same.
I will wait a while before buying.
Especially, I had concerns about the weak, dumbed down combat, the consolized controls and interface, the story and the characters. From the reviews they don't look that good.

Also... did anyone really expected low scores? Seriously guys?

i personally feel that some reviewers were ready to pounce after DAII

if this release was middling like that one, i think they would have hit them hard

but it seems that there has been some real effort put into Inquisition

that being said, I agree its always a good move to be cautious when approaching a hyped title (especially with biowares recent history)
