Dragon Age: Inquisition Review Thread

Item management is good. Lots of customisation options. I really dig crafting. In other games, there's a set type of resources you need to make armor. Example: EPIC DRAGON ARMOR needs 10 obsidian and 10 dragon claws. If you don't have those, you can't make it. In Dragon Age: Inquisition, you just need 10 of any resource, doesn't matter what. Every resource will have different stats and the primary resource will define the color. I really like that.

Friendly fire didn't really bother me, by the way.
Awesome news.
And sorry if I'm abusing your help, but when you have a chance, can you please share info about the Necromancer and Rift specializations? That's all I'm waiting for.

Bah, I really want to play this, but still can't even get Origin to launch on my computer after an update earlier this year.

Anyone in a similar situation/know how to fix it? I've tried searching for the solution online, but none of them have worked for me. Very odd.

Ignoring that numbers are about as useful of expression an opinion as smearing faeces on a page and drawing a smiley face in it, that leaves 7% before it be deemed as perfect. Are you seriously saying that there's is only 7% of ME3 that needs to be changed to be perfect? If we go with the widely held belief that ME1/2 are better where do they fall on this 94% >100% scale?

As I said, "IMO". And I think Mass Effect 3 is the best one of the series. It has a better plot than ME2, better combat mechanics, the space feels more alive (including Citadel and Normandy), the characters are really well written, and the DLCs are all amazing.

The things I'd change are the animations (Bioware©), the journal, some of the dialogues and, perhaps, the way the ending is presented (well, actually, I don't care about the ending at all). That alone doesn't make the game bad, neither reduces my enjoyment with it.

No need to be upset. It's just my opinion. It's a game that I really like, and cemented my love for the series (and for Bioware).

Poster indicated the MC rating matched their personal enjoyment, so yeah they'd probably say there's only ~7% of ME3 they'd change. People are also going to have different views on what content contributes towards perfection and what doesn't.

Spending years on an internet message board deconstructing a game is going to bring up a host of issues that might never have occurred to someone. So, do those issues actually matter to said person? Do they have to account for what everyone else finds lacking in order to determine their opinion of a game? Of course not.
[/spoiler]

It was more the wording they used, "still a very good" that got me. It didn't seem like "93%" talk. Probably on my mind because I have the sneaking suspicion that all this reviews of Inquisition are inflated to high numbers because people just "liked" the game. Has a habit of happening with Bioware games.

See above, was just the phrasing before that made me wonder about the 93%. If you consider it the best then yeah I can get the 93%

So Shadows of Mordor and (likely) Dragon Age will be my games of the year by the looks of it. Can't say I'm saw that coming. I finish work next Thursday and have 10 days off as well o/

I'm predicting Dragon Age is going to destroy Ass Creed in sales now

Sadly I don't think so. The Assassins Creed brand is just so much more well known. Hopefully having these great reviews hit a week before release will get them some more sales though.

so is this the best deal out there?

Do I need to have played the other Dragon Age games to play this? Is it a Mass Effect style rolling story, or its own separate story?

1. Strictly speaking no, but being up to date on the lore would help a lot.

2. It's its own separate story with a linked world state (i.e. decisions made in past games carry over, but you're playing a different character and not really continuing the storylines of those past games)

I don't think I mentioned John Cleese.

13/10.

No, just go to dragon age keep and watch the video. That will catch you up on most things. The kotaku run down said something about not being able to differentiate Orlesian Nobility and Tevinter Mages, but you'd have to be a drooling idiot to miss the distinction. Bioware is not subtle.

I get what you're saying now. In that case I will say this: I hated the ending, but as I was playing through ME3 I was constantly thinking 93% was too low for what it was giving me. From the combat to character arcs to resolution of major lore subplots I thought it hit the nail in the head. Endings sucked down my enjoyment, but I still don't believe 93% is far off (I don't really like giving numbers to my enjoyment or lack-thereof so I don't know what I'd give it exactly). ME2 and ME3 are both top 10 all-time games to me.

I think I'm finally sold on this game. Never played a Dragon Age game but I love the ME trilogy. The positive impressions in here and some reviews I've read have really made this sound great.

Nope, DA2 had also great scores before the backlash.
Of course, I hope this game is better than DA 2.

We knew that DA:I would be a better game than DA 2 for awhile. The combat has been fixed (No more wave combat), the amount of unique locations has greatly improved as has the level of customization. IMO, these were the 3 biggest faults with DA 2.

While I did preorder both, I agree. Unity appears to have been rushed out. DAI is clearly the superior game.

Cant believe Mordor slipped off my radar. I'll definitely pick this up on the next sale, I really did underestimate it.

Up until February 2010, Dragon Age: Origins had sold "triple platinum", that is more than 3.2 million copies, worldwide.

And I think Dragon Age II sold a little over two million? Yeah, I doubt they'll beat Assassin's Creed.

They'd never do it, but part of me almost wishes they'd have this crazy hermit who kept giving you maps to exotic locations filled with legendary treasures, and they all led you to the same dumb cave. :P

Did you see your first post? If that isn't the definition of some egotistical guy running into a thread in a rage, I don't know what is, lol.
I didn't just see it, I even wrote it! The gif with nicolas cage laughing was totally screaming "I'm burning in rage right now"

You do realize you're the one that insulted everyone else first, right? Surely?
by stating that I think you have bad tastes or that those games don't deserve high scores? I didn't realize that it's an insult, or that it's the same as calling someone dumb. damn, I insulted everyone, I'll open a thread to apologize.
now go play some DA to cool off, you're sweating.

I need Multiplayer Impressions. I need them in my veeeeinnsss.

It's very ME3-like, although it feels a bit more difficult. Maybe other journalists are just noobs though :PPPP You pick a seperate class and character like in ME3 with some pleb armor and weapons. You gain new loot as you progress. There are microtransactions, but those are optional like ME3. I like it so far, but it's a little inactive because most journalists are probably playing the singleplayer, myself included. If BioWare supports this as well as Mass Effect 3 though... I think it should lengthen the game by a few months.

So can anyone help me decide whether to play this on normal or hard? I love the difficulty of Skyrim and Fallout. Enjoyed that they had some challenge to them, particularly when facing powerful enemies that were a much higher level than you. I'll probably use the tactical view a bit, but not much. I prefer real time. Want a challenge but not to be forced into using tactical view to survive.

Also, a little disappointed hearing that there are no big cities. How would people say they compare to Skyrim cities?

Thanks, everyone.
