Dragon Age: Inquisition Review Thread

Isolated story that takes place as a result of actions taken in previous games. Likely will have parts of previous story have minor and (maybe)major effects on this isolated story.

Each Dragon Age game is its own story, though. They don't roll over the same story between games like Mass Effect or other games do.

So the decisions that you make in the previous games won't hold as much weight and this one but will be some sort of flashback?

Now the only question is, do I get this on PS4 or Xbox.

My dilemma as well.

Which video review has the least amount of spoilers by the way? Got a little break at work and feel like watching :)

The IGN video has no spoilers. They just walk around the Hinterlands and the Swampy location shown off at E3. Gives you a good look at the Knight Enchanter specialization BTW.

for anyone asking which console to buy it on, remember Bioware and microsoft have some stupid deal about having content on it's consoles first but its 900P/30f where as sony has 1080P/30f or get it on pc with 4k/60fps, i'm getting it on ps4 since its all i got and sure the delay of content sucks but eh what can you do. Only a week left.

Well since Ubisoft is being... well Ubisoft with Unity and Dragon age getting fairly good reception from people who liked 1 and disliked 2 (like me) i'm gonna go a head and pre-order this now.

Hmmm, would be disappointing if true. What makes you think that?

I thought they confirmed that we would be given an opportunity to customize him/her? I recall reading that. It'll suck if we can't.

It was the gamespot review. But apparently he used the default world state and probably didn't bother doing it. I haven't seen any confirmation that we can customize, I'd love a link or a tweet or something.

Unrelated as well but just watched a male Qunari customization video and now I'm deadset on being a Qunari for the game. Them beards and horns yo.

Wondering this myself. Any of the reviews do a head to head?

Xbone version gets some DLC earlier but it's almost guaranteed as a rule of thumb in third party games that PS4 will look/run better so unless you really care for the dlc it might have I wouldn't play a technically less good looking/performing title if you have the option

This is the reviewer here! We're withholding the PS4 score specifically because of the freezing issue, not the other bugs. As mentioned at the bottom of the review, we tested on Xbox One and PC as well, and the freezing issue does not seem to exist there (which would make sense if it is caused by hardware problems).

Accurate!

Thanks for clearing that up. Looking forward to this.

So the decisions that you make in the previous games won't hold as much weight and this one but will be some sort of flashback?

Potentially. The ending of DA2 leads to the starting conflict the world finds itself at the beginning of Inquisition (though the overall conflict the MC in DAI deals with appears to be different). Story threads like that will probably carry over to some extent. The need to know the role of those story threads in previous games will likely be minimal.

Besides the major plot threads that carry over to some extent, expect cameos and whatnot. Flashbacks are very, very unlikely.

The weight of previous decisions tend not to change the overall world state much. They have more to do with the state of the characters you interact within during the game by the end credits.

This game really wasn't even on my radar. I never played the first and got so bored in the 2nd game I returned it immediately. Now I'm wondering if I should buy it... if it's that much better and different than the 2nd Dragon Age. Damn these reviews... I'm so fucking confused now.

if you didn't play the first and got so bored with the second you couldn't finish it's a tough call as this game is described as a combination between DAO and DAII in an open world with a lot of content. The upside is that it seems to be the game to get if you like RPG's, especially open world.

Is anyone planning on replaying DA:O or DA2 leading up to Inq? I have both games on Origin and never played them on PC up to this point. Will the save game do anything?

I already have. Might have jumped on that too early.

And no they won't. You have to recreate your decision on the Dragon Age Keep, then import the decisions into DAI. This avoids the cross generation issue and the major bugs they had in previously importing saves for DA2.

Nope. Dragon Age Keep (the website) is the place to go to make decisions and transfer world states. No need to replay them.

Good luck finishing those before Inquisition hits. They're pretty massive games - especially the first one. Anyway, I recommend you to take that journey, regardless of whether the save game does anything ( as I have no idea ).

Just mentally prepare to play those two games until Christmas.

Yeah I just want to know and set my expectations accordingly.

Anyone, can we customize Hawke's face in Inquisition?

Actually there is a spoiler. You might not notice if it's not pointed out, though.

Isn't there supposed to be a way to import your save or at least re-create your choices from the previous games before going into Inquisition?

My problem is I'm getting this on PS4, but played the previous two on 360.

Wasn't a fan of the combat in DA:2 and I've never played origins. Love open world RPGs though, will I enjoy this?

1. It's not truly open world, more Borderlands style with discrete (but big) areas separated by loading screens.

2. The combat is fundamentally the same as DA2, with some tweaks. If that style of combat doesn't appeal to you at all, you probably won't be into this either.

What specifically did you not like about the combat in DA 2? Since you didn't play Origins, it'd probably be best to rent it first, see if you like the combat, then decide.

I'm doing this. I'm doing some of the Origins I never got to, plus trying to finish Awakenings + DA2 (which I started years ago but also never finished).

If you want to skip DAO and DA2, just know that Templars are dicks and Mages/Elves should be free. The lore/story of the world is solid though. Worth your time, imo.

Can't wait. So glad the series turned itself back around after Shit Mountain. Picking this up Black Friday or the day or two after.

You can customize Hawke. HP_Wuvcraft just sent me a PM and I said no, but I was wrong. I had a brain fart and thought he meant if you can change armor etc like regular party members.

Yes, you can change his appearance.
