We are sluts. Sluts for the truth!
I would like to hear what Wizard has to say too but it's unlikely we're going to get a long explanation for this.
So much for being a diplomat. Kappa

Mortal Kombat motions would work great on keyboard. Hopefully WB and NRS will focus more on the PC version this time around.
Also? PC has free fucking multiplayer.
brb calling people sluts

So the game does desynch with this glitch? SF4 stores game data with the costume models? And it doesn't even have any sanity checks against desynchs like this?http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2014/...glitch-boost-their-pp-ultra-street-fighter-4/
Ultra Street Fighter 4 : Unity Edition
So I play some fighting games but I don't really participate all that much in the FGC, can anyone explain something to me that seems stupid about the FGC?
Why does it seem that everyone hates fighting games being called an eSport and seems to be vehemently against any sort of organization that comes with eSports? It just seems really stupid to me since it could only be a good thing to have the scene better organized and with more exposure.
It just seems really weird to me.

esports are viewed as fake, anti-hype, white, and bad for the community as a whole. esports are seen as generally closing out the possibility of the everyman competing with closed invite only tourneys, and unstable because most esport scenes collapse entirely when the money dries up.
Hearthstone's main tournament is Blizzard-sponsored like the MTG or Capcom PT. MLG (who are in the red as a company and will likely eventually bankrupt) and other companies like them who essentially market the games for 3rd parties are what people are (justly) worried about.I don't think "competitive" spirit is the appropriate word (if there's no competition in esports then what the fuck are they doing). Grassroots spirit is more fitting.
The only other competitive scene I follow is Hearthstone, and none of the arguments made so far as negatives of eSports apply to it really. Like "smack talk" is even rated by the commentators, lol
Also, I just realized Xrd getting localized means Xrd is getting /localized/. And that means different VA. Which could mean a different cry for Millia while she's getting hit. Please let it be better

If the fgc gets really big I hope it does so on its own terms and keeps the culture as intact as possible.
The idea is e-sports are professional and we'd lose the pop offs, shit talk, blow ups and overall competitive spirit.
It's a really stupid sounding name.
One other thing about esports. They have to run ads. Lots of them. So there is SO MUCH DOWNTIME. Add that up with unnecessary commentator impressions and waiting time. It's pretty much unwatchable, and for the players involved in the events It's very frustrating too.

Synchtube, last I heard from Hito (RIP), is a tricky thing on GAF. The MLP thread was using it regularly to watch episodes, and when he asked about it, he said they needed to put a stop to mentioning it in the thread since those episodes weren't legally able to be watched via Synchtube (the episodes put up that they were watching weren't put up by Hasbro essentially).I don't see how it could, people have adblock for no ads or they watch the videos together as a group, its the same concept, just in a different setting. Also, I mentioned adblock since this synctube might disable ads but I doubt that's the case. Fun times will be had now, FGC-chat can be with you whenever you want it to be!
It would actually be pretty awesome if we held a thing like this weekly and just chatted amongst ourselves during the matches. Would love to see Dahbomb's reactions during a hype marvel match.

Possibly. But even being associated with esports tars it at this point. And rating smack talk? Sounds really fake.

So we can essentially watch teamspooky videos and cross counter ones but not if its uploaded by the actual content provider. Makes a lot of sense, thanks beef.

I never thought about it like this. It's totally true. I never feel compelled to go attend one of their big events when watching some of the tournament streams. Fighting games though, Spooky's streams are the reason I started wanting to seek out the local community here. It looked like fun. It's just so sterile and the whoever's made this culture 1:1 trying to imitate sports, players are on some pedestal/ivory tower and it's a select few instead of the open bracket nature of FGC events. To me it just looks like totally different philosophies; eSports = watch us, FGC = play with us.
I think we're doing fine since both our league/invite events and open tournaments draw so much viewers and interest.

As for "eSports": it's a really dumb name. One that to me sounds like something birthed in a boardroom full of people who only care about squeezing as much money out of advertisers as they can. Why the obsession with wanting to be seen as something legitimate by other people when we already know it is?
Just call it competitive gaming. That's what it is. We don't need to ride on the coattails of professional sports.
You know what's competitive? Sports.
You know why it's called eSports? Stands for electronicNo shit
Actually seeing people get upset over the word is pretty childish and hilarious to me xD
The word itself doesn't really offend me at this point
Tbh your experience is the first time i've heard of something like that. Strange.

but seeing your avatar does kappa
That seems like bullshit to me, since a lot of the FGC seems to have the mindset of "if you don't know how to play, then fucking don't." It took me years before I actually knew what a dragon punch was and how to do it, I just avoided anything that used that motion. And if I tried to ask anywhere I would just get flamed as an idiot. Maybe people are more open now, but I have trouble believing it. The fact that the scene isn't regulated at all just makes atmosphere worse with terrible comments that can and surely have made people not want to be involved.
Thinking that the FGC means "play with us" is just delusional. Fighting games, maybe, but the FGC is way less inviting than MOBA and RTS communities, at least from personal experiences. Only reason I posted here was because this is one of the first FGC threads or other sort of community things that has not seemed like complete shit, to be expected from something on GAF. Have I only had shitty experiences in real life and the internet? Who knows, but the fact that I have had many shitty experiences, and I'm a white guy so it's not like it's even bigotry or something, makes me think it's a bigger problem.
I'll agree with that the name is stupid, but that isn't a reason to not want organization. I know that's not what you're saying, at least it doesn't seem that way, but most people seem to be opposed more to the concept of eSports for some reason.
Pretty much.
The only memory I have of my local scene was getting 32 wins in Tekken 5 with Wang then getting threatened to get stabbed before everyone else around me beat the shit out of the guy. *shrug*
Its probably not all that uncommon. Like it takes a fair amount of effort to teach an absolute beginner how to play a fighting game, and you kinda need a decent amount of self motivation to get good, and there are like a million tutorials and videos out there for people who go looking for them. Like if someone's asking for tips getting started, a lot of people wouldn't know where to begin explaining, and they probably use a lot of terminology that a beginner wouldn't understand. All of that combined with catching someone in a bad mood or whatever, can probably seem very unwelcoming. Its easier than its ever been to get jnto fighting games but it could still be better.Tbh your experience is the first time i've heard of something like that. Strange.
