Dragon Age: Inquisition Review Thread

Just curious if there are any others who are coming to the Dragon Age series fresh? What are your thoughts on giving this a try?

Yep I am. Honestly I can't wait. 1 and 2 never looked that appealing to me, but this one does. It just looks so much bigger and more intricate than the first 2, which is what I like. I rarely play games for the story (I'm that guy that skips all the cutscenes when possible)... I just want deep combat, deep leveling, and great exploration. Games like this with a party are even better.

I've played all the other Bioware series though, so I have some idea of what I'm getting into.

Are there any reviews that really get into the feel of combat and the use of skills? The reviews I've read seem to only barely touch upon the combat engine.

I'd like to know more about mobility, flanking and parry/counter abilities in the real-time mode -- specifically, is melee combat meaty and/or reliable enough to be interesting when just controlling a single character? I'm not expecting something approaching Bayonetta, of course, but if melee combat is just mashing buttons without regard to enemy animations/positioning, I'd rather play a ranged character and stick to the tactical view.

Seconded.

The last 8 or so minutes of the IGN preview was pretty decent about talking about combat mostly about the Reaver and Knight Enchanter Specs.

Just saw that. If anybody is curious about Knight Enchanters watch this video

Which now confirms that
Vivienne's specialty is Knight Enchanter
. From the video it looks very fun to use and can be combined with other skills as well. Very sweet. I now know that this party member is useless for me since I'm going knight enchanter.

Dawg how useful is rift mage? I'm on the fence of bringing a party member with rift mage or necromancer.

A great article on DA:I from the verge, written by a person who rarely finishes games, especially not RPGS.

This part really stood out to me and increased my hype meter. I hope the game feels the same way to me:

What I'm saying is, for the first time playing a role-playing game, I don't feel like I have to establish my identity purely through predetermined dialogue trees. I establish myself through the actions I take and the value I place on the many people and lands of a fictional world. I'm sure much of what I like is a sleight of hand, the developer creating the illusion of control. Which is fine because it's the best trick in town and I have no idea how it works.

Right now, I am playing a fantasy role-playing video game because it feels like a safe place to test my beliefs, a laboratory where my personal belief system can be tested by a constant stream of grand moral questions.

...I'm not making the game easy for myself. And that's what I want. I'm being tested. That's what makes the game so accessible. On its deepest level, Dragon Age: Inquisition is about the person playing it.

Useless isn't the word I would use. a full melee team could be amazing come to think of it. Two KE's, a double dagger, and a tank. Stay in tight formation with the KEs taking turns putting barriers up and healing (the only direct healing spell I'm aware of belongs to the KE), you could be unstoppable.

Any videos of just some peaceful exploration? :P

Also, we can avoid battles right? Im not totally up for a JRPG-esque interruption system. DA1 did it well and never felt annoying

I didn't really except this, but this is the most excited I've been about a major console release since Dark Souls 2 earlier this year.

I just have fond memories - maybe not the most consistent, but still many fond ones - of this franchise and I'm really excited to dive back in. I just wish it wasn't such a packed holiday.

will we be getting GMG codes to pre-load?

never pre-purchased from them before

Maybe, maybe not. Depends on when EA gives them their codes. I've only bought a few games from them but some had keys sent out days before release around or before preload, while a couple other games keys weren't sent out until day of release.

Still waiting for impressions from people who thought the first Dragon Age was a bland plain jane game that lacked any of what made the old isometric games great.

I would love to have a great RPG to play this time of year, but I am super hesitant to trust Bioware or what any reviews say about their games.

There;s always wasteland 2 if this isn't your cup of tea. I'm still playing it and it's awesome. Divinity Original Sin is another great isometric RPG!

Hmm, I still have DA:I on my Origin game list that I canceled which I preordered a couple of weeks ago. Aren't games that are canceled supposed to be removed from my list?

So I was about to spend my PSN credit and preorder this. I'm guessing based on this thread I should probably forget that and get Sonic Boom instead right?

I can't believe this game is really good

i've been on blackout for so long I just expected another disaster. it sounds so ridiculously huge I don't even know if I'd need another game this year

Bloodborne, Order and Witcher 3 are all nestled safely in February and March, depending on your preferences. (my preference is all of them, please)

I really cant believe that so many people were betting on this game turning out bad. All signs were (and still are) pointing towards a positive outcome.

dude

where dat gametrailers review at tho

Why is GT waiting so long with its reviews today? This and AC still aren't up. Is it always like that? They used to release them quickly. It's one of the few sites I watch the reviews at.
