Dragon Age: Inquisition Review Thread

Yeah, Ironically Dragon Age doesn't quite live up to its name since dragons are so fucking sparse in each and every game, and the stories are never about them. Meh.

The major characters and even the last boss are dragons.
Archdemon is the main villain of DAO, how is that not about dragons?

Is real time still reasonably viable on hard? I would like to fight myself at least a bit between tactical views.

I bet some crazy pros will be able to make real-time viable on nightmare :p Probably depends on your skill level. I loved normal difficulty the most because it is a loooooong game and I like to switch around. I bet you can use it on hard too, but more difficult fights will be better with tactical.

I thought I saw that Kirk Hamilton of Kotaku was writing a lore primer this week of everything you should know. Watching "Dragon Age: Dawn of the Seeker" for the 1st time. Doubt it's important though

It's much better than I expected - I would recommend watching pre-Inquisition.

That tid-bit from Gametrailer's reviewer about this being the Dragon Age game he's been waiting for... bring on that review!

6 more days. Awesome. I remember greenmangaming being hit or miss on the key distribution so I'm not planning on actually getting to play on the 18th lol. But I think I'm there for the 19th!

Fuck it, I'm starting this on hard. I want to be forced to use tactical view.

This is my thinking exactly, I hate a cakewalk... hope I don't have to noob it down to normal when facing the dragons, I'm going to micro-manage the shit out of those winged bastards!

God damn, I can't wait to get this running... hnnnnngggh

XB1 owners can play this Friday right? I know there is a 6 hour limit for the trial, but does that limit go away if the game is actually purchased during the early access?

Tomorrow, not Friday. The Early access ends even when you preordered the game digitally and you have to wait until release to play it.

How easy is t to get potions in this game? Do they just come naturally or is a significant trade of between getting better equipment and getting more potions?

You can create and upgrade potions with herbs.

Refilling HP pots is ALWAYS free at a camp. Other potions not.

Casual = Full real-time gameplay
Normal = Mixture of the two, real-time can still be used a lot
Hard = Tactical view >>> real-time
Nightmare = Tactical view is a must

This sounds about perfect, and as it should be.

Hey Dawg, how is the companion AI? I see they kind of simplified the AI tactics menu (in comparison to Origins), does it work well enough to not worry about?

Works well enough in tactical when you control them but I've seen them just stand around in real-time mode when a dragon fires a spell at them. They do know how to shield me and stuff though, so that's ok.

Man, This game is going to be amazing. I was going to hold off until I finished a few other games but the reviews have me stoked. Looks like they totally redeemed themselves from DA2.

in the lore "Dragon Age" has less to do with dragons and more to do with the era. The term Dragon Age refers to dragon sightings that were spotted despite common knowledge stating that they were hunted to extinction. Dragons in the Dragon Age games are basically just returning to Thedas which is why there arent many of them.

Ages last 100 years, so if dragon age as a series lasts long enough, I wonder if they will change the name to reflect the next age

Honestly I doubt they'll go too far off from the current timeline. Mainly because events and characters we know are in this era. If they decide to go to the next 'age' it'd be when they think that keeping up decisions is too complicated and they want to start fresh. For their other games they kind of fucked themselves over though. Like ME3. They'll have to go either really far into the future or choose something as canon because the endings did three different things.

Can we adjust the difficulty in game? Does using the tactical view make it more like a SRPG? Sorry for the newb questions. Never played DA before.

Yes and yes, in tactical view (on consoles at least) the action is paused by default and you need to hold a trigger to advance time. So it's pseudo turn-based where you can dispense orders, characters carry out, you release trigger to pause again so you can reissue orders.

Sounds much more interesting with a group of people than real-time combat. Will probably buy and go hard to start out. Thank you.
