Halo 5: Guardians Multiplayer Beta Behind the Scenes (direct feed vidoc footage)

Many have now for years. People want a Combat Evolved-like game with all the feature sets and customization of subsequent entries. Halo without the gimmicks and twists.

A game with ADS vs. Scope plays differently. A game with sprint plays differently. We don't want a game different from Halo. We want Halo.

Which is ridiculous, Halo exists. Halo 2 exists. There can be additions that don't take away from the core gameplay, of course it's 'different'.... it's a different game, it SHOULD be.

Should Mario World not have introduced new powerups after Mario 3 because Mario 3 was a perfect game? What is important is the feel of the platforming.

As long as they don't make it so you can boost/sprint around the map with impunity (the shield thing helps a LOT with that in my head btw, you can't just easily avoid any fight once you're in one) it's not inherently changing the Halo formula. The ADS thing? Who gives a shit? It's not altering the accuracy/necessary to hit anything, the fact that with some weapons it covers some of the screen doesn't mean anything, it's stylistic and it only affects certain weapons (plenty of them barely move at all when you scope in those videos).

As long as Halo doesn't move towards instant deaths like a CoD style game and it retains the balance of melee, guns, and grenades, it has captured the core halo multiplayer experience. What else they do in that space is what they NEED to do to move their series forward.

There is a huge difference between "no changes at all" and just not ruining the game. It's funny that any Halo fans have the attitude you're presenting here: The only attitude that will assuredly kill the series in the long term - one that doesn't allow it to ever grow.

Maybe Halo 6?

No one will care by then. This is their last shot at showing Halo fans that the series isn't heading for ruin.

People shouldn't underestimate just how much damage Reach and 4 did to this series.

I think people are in for a brutal wake up call with MCC sales figures showing just how far the series has fallen in the eyes of Halo fans and even beyond.

Isn't MCC an indication of how well old Halos hold up? More than anything else. I think a lot of Halo fans want the same gameplay with updated maps and graphics. I can't say for certain if Halo will survive this way either, no one person can say for sure. If this is what Halo fans really want we will see with the release of Halo 5, where we can compare numbers closely and multiplayer numbers.

Its looking pretty damn nice to play!! Really!

Please 343i fix server issues so I can play with Halo MCC MP till this beta! You sold me this game already!

I'm not really digging the sound effects. Everything seems too be unnaturally high pitched and tinny sounding.

It would be cool if we could toggle all the beeping noises. I'm not sure if I like them or not yet. They might be really helpful as they indicate if your shot connected or not.

I see the talk about lowering base speed to have sprint in but what if they kept it the same?

Also, wasn't the base movement speed in Halo 4 the exact same as in Halo 3?

God this looks so shit

Thruster pack
Clamber
Slide
Charge
Sprint
Smart scope

No to all of them

It's funny. As someone who has been playing Halo mp since 2, all of that sounds great to me in the context of everyone having them from the get go. Only ones that I don't know about are Ground pound and Charge. Smart scope I'm neutral on, but the implementation sounds like it will be unobtrusive.

Watch the gameplay videos, the ADS takes up 35% of your field of view when in use.

By unobtrusive, I mean I don't really need to use it and it doesn't mess with the gameplay flow (ie slow you down while aiming). If it was more like CoD's implementation where it's also basically required to be accurate at all 95% of the time, I'd have a problem with it (in Halo).

Ground pound better not be instakill. If it drops shields like charge, then I think I could live with it.

Supposedly works more like melee. Direct hit is insta-kill, but it's otherwise more like a melee hit with some push damage wise. Same thing for charge except I think it's only insta-kill from behind like regular melee.

I believe that enemy ground pound locations show up on your HUD, so you could probably dodge them fairly easily with thruster pack

At least I think I saw that they location shows, in one of the videos.

I just realized that vaulting reduces the skill of jumping well and correctly (crouch jumping). The game just takes you to where you want.

No, you cannot. Aiming and using zoom is integral to the way Halo is played. You can't simply fire from the hip at all times with all weapons.

I think the poster is referring to weapons that didn't traditionally have a zoom/scope in previous games.

Though kind of true, Frankie mentioned there are still areas where more advanced jumping skills (like specifically crouch jumping) will come in handy.

Looks so good. I enjoyed Halo 4 a lot and I think I will love this!

Can't wait to see the vehicles in action and how good this game will look at release.

I saw kittens tweet about his concern for Charge and Ground Pound being one-hit kills.

Charge and Ground Pound are ONLY one hit kills in specific situations. If you hit someone directly with a Ground Pound, it's a one hit kill. if you hit someone from behind with Charge, it's a one hit kill (just like your typical back smack). Otherwise, they both just do melee-type damage with a little push.

:)

Looks interesting. I'm not really sold on the charge/slide/boost stuff. The clamber looks interesting but damn that's dramatically going to change Halo.

I think vaulting allows you access to areas much higher than simply crouch jumping in older Halo titles. Could just be me but it looks like you can get up to some damn high ledges at head height during the top of your jump.

this is one of the features they should definitely remove in the final build. That and the slide must go.

Na, you're a floating target when trying to line up the ground pound. If you don't catch someone in the center of the reticle it doesn't insta kill them.

The slide is fine because you have to be sprinting to do it and while sprinting your shield doesn't recharge so you're risking taking some serious damage if you go sprinting and sliding into a fight.

You can choose not using it.
I don't get this. You can choose not to scope in previous games too, but you'll lose long range battles. It is not like we have a choice to use the traditional scope as well as the ADS. We are stuck with this stupid gun covering your screen if you need to scope.

Huh? So you've got some insider sales info about MCC then? I'd love to hear it. Unless you're in old-Miles mode.

So, now that they don't need to make each weapon unique for loadouts, do you think we'll see the Light Rifle and Carbine back on specific maps as stand-ins for the BR and Carbine?

Interesting but less and less like the Halo I know.

Please tell me that parody of a game show announcer won't make the final version.

I still wonder why there is no spread on the AR when it uses smart scope.

Also, I have seen people dash in first person and in third person. Seems like an option?

Idk what's worse... him or Lennie James in Destiny's MP. Ugh, at first i dug the unique announcer style... then grew to wish it dead by toothbrush shiving.

I actually think MCC will have a higher player count then Halo 5. Think people will abandon 5 like they abandoned 4 and will be happy with MCC.

I actually don't have a problem with sprint.

ADS, thruster, ground pound, and the charge ability are going to suck. They have no place in a halo game to me.

The youtube dislike ratios seem to be improving from the initial reveal, hopefully that means people are warming up to it

I think 343 has done a really good job breaking down each new ability and describing how they're aspiring to balance them out, which I feel like people are appreciating. Releasing the MCC was really smart on their part, because the fans that want Halo as it once was will have that game to enjoy, while 343 moves forward and puts their own personal stamp on Halo 5 and the games that will come after that.

I haven't played halo before and the MCC and Halo 5 are really inviting. I'm saving up to buy an xbox for those specific games. Halo 5 seems fun to play and I'm looking forward to it.

Now my question to the halo fans out there is that how would you iterate per game and stay true to the halo formula? We know what you'd rather not have but what would you like to add and keep the gameplay fresh but still very halo-esque.
