Microsoft: Xbox One leading sales in US since price cut, nearly 10 million sold-in

One is a Black Friday door buster, the other is MSRP.

I added more to my post. The $450 one has a bubble that says there's a bonus choice of two games. Since GTA V and TLOU are bundled in (as shown on the box), surely that must mean you can choose two more bonus games.

And that was reported as sold to customers. So if you add in the numbers that were still on shelves/shipped, and the numbers they shipped worldwide for the last quarter of 2014 and the holidays, it wouldn't necessarily be out of the possibility to have closer to 20 million shipped by the end of this year.

When is Sony going to report they have "almost" shipped 20 million?

CES 2015.

Leading console sales for two weeks? Hopefully they didn't use the same sources as Pachter when he believed MS were going to hammer Sony sales a couple of months ago

They made a similar claim about week over week sales increases and of course last that month too. So it will be interesting. Black Friday is a huge wildcard that will probably overwhelm anything else that happened this month.

I would say it accomplishes what they wanted it to. Here's a sample article. Notice the headline?

http://www.theverge.com/2014/11/12/7211395/xbox-one-10-million-sales

Of course they mention "shortly" in the body of the article, but the headline is what most people will take away.

Also, why do The Verge and Polygon suck so hard at making graphs and charts?

Ugh. Just gross "journalism" at it's best I guess.

I don't know, I think Polygon's graphs are fine the way they are, don't you?

Seems to explain everything perfectly I THINK. ;)

Yup. That's what it is.

$449 for GTAV+TLOU, then you choose two more games as well

Well, the momentum has to peak at some point. MCC, aka their biggest holiday hurray has launched. ACU and CoD has launched, and that will naturally weaken the bundle sales.

Even if we disregard NPD, it's natural to assume that week 3 onwards will not be as strong as week 1/2, because it's already post-launch of Xbox's Three-Pointed November big titles.

It's the month of November though, the momentum will pick up again in the last week (Thanksgiving week+ BF)

Well, let's see if the momentum will continue. I fully expect the Xbone to outsell the PS4 this month (in the US).

If they somehow can't even with the pricecut and crazy deals, well then fuck, there's no chance they can ever do it.

Even without that price-drop, this was already debated as MS's 'possible to win' month due to CoD/MCC/ACU bundle. The 349 was, ironically, the sharpest tip of the spear.

It's hard to fathom them losing November.

If anything, the delay of ACU from Oct->Nov, the staggered timing of how XBox-affliated marketing titles/exclusives are all in the first half of the month (CoD => ACU/MCC), leading up to the pivotal second half (BF) are practically the stars aligning for them to 'win November'.

Sony also had marketing/exclusive title delays on their end (Order, Batman, BF Hardline all delayed) which reduces their marketing-affiliated presence for the holidays.

Great points. I remember back to last year though when the GTAV bundle made the PS3 outsell the Xbox 360 for the first time in 2 years or so. If it has the same moving power on name recognition, it could be interesting. I really hope we get the bundle vs. non-bundle breakdown.

I wouldn't bank on it, There are still a lot of people who will be buying PS4's as Christmas gifts. To be fair leading into this week XB1 has outsold PS4 at about the tune of two to one. Which is very good but as soon as HMCC came out sales completely dropped off a cliff. When we got the Sunset Overdrive bundle in it didn't move units as well as numbers predicted. Halo has at the very least moved quite a few systems.

So with all the commentary on the XB1 increases due to the drop in price, and the speculation associated with that, I figured I'd let you guys know what it has looked like this week.

There was a veritable... well, explosion is a bit hyperbolic, but as soon as the price drop hit, we had a pretty drastic increase in XB1 sales. First day and forward, with the CoD launch as well, sold a bunch of the various bundles. But even just the last two days, that rush has tapered off significantly, and while still better than last month's pace, it isn't outselling the PS4 anymore. They're pretty close now, with just that rush of systems putting it ahead for the month so far.

We're getting rumors/whispers from corporate about Sony's intentions for the PS4, bundling, etc. but I honestly avoid speculating on any of that, especially since I know that Best Buy corporate does indeed allow false rumors to spread in various stores to try and pinpoint leakers. I don't really see a clear way to call this month yet, even with the MCC. This is probably the first month where I really think things will be interesting. There's too much up in the air, and I don't think you guys realize exactly how insane Black Friday and the weekend following are. Last year one store sold more consoles on BF than 3 combined months of year leading up to that point.

......

These two posts have me reconsidering my November predictions.

Was it permanent?

Ray was a junior, so probably. Poor guy.

Whether it's a good deal or not depends on the games for offer.

Bloodborne isn't a system seller.

I don't know about that. Most exclusives are usually system sellers. I see this game catering to the core demographic of gamers who haven't picked up console yet.

Oh, sorry, I just glanced at the ad. Yes, I think you are correct. The online bundle is $449 for a PS4 with GTAV and TLOU + a choice of 2 games. The in-store doorbuster is $399 for the PS4 with GTAV and TLOU + a $50 GC.

Considering how weak the demand for the bone is outside the USA, there's a good chance they won't clear 10M sold-through in 2014. They just dropped over 2M bones on the channel in preparation for Christmas and that wasn't enough to push them over 10M sold-in.

They had 2M Bones stuffed in the channel 3 weeks ago. Why they stuffing so much? 6M sold to customers and 4M in channel? That seems insane.

I doubt it honestly. Titanfall, big sales on bundles, getting rid of mandatory Kinect, if neither could do the job, I doubt this would either.

Yeah, but still counted as "sold in" though.

Late, but yeah, not denying that. Just saying that a picture of games from an Exchange really doesn't reflect circumstances outside of a base.

IMO, a Target or Wal-Mart pic would be more accurate than an Exchange pic.

Momentum picks up for everyone in the last week.

Right now, they know for a fact that week 1/2 = Xbox won.

Week 3/4? They don't.

Actually, NPD November began on November 2nd, so they've won the first ten days of November. A little less than three weeks remain.

These two posts have me reconsidering my November predictions.

Even though the second week sales are close, in the first week Xbone sold like gangbusters. PS4 will have to outsold Xbone with a great margin in BF to cover the sales difference of the first week, which I doubt it's gonna happen with all the crazy Xbone BF deals.

I'm here to drop the obligatory "now NPD for October is going to be interesting."

and then I need someone to reply with "you mean, NPD for November is going to be interesting."

I honestly don't see Bloodborne as a system seller.

Possibly a great game in a long line of exclusives, but not a game I'll think is a deciding factor in getting a PS4.

Uncharted or Last of Us I'd call system sellers. Dark souls and Bloodborne isn't for everyone and caters to specific kind of gamers.

Dark Souls fans can be pretty hardcore though... like buy a system hardcore. Bloodborne is what got me to buy a PS4. There are very few games that have that kind of pull with me these days.

Microsoft announced the $50 Holiday Price drop on Monday, October 27th.

The Price drop went into effect on Sunday November 2nd. It is pretty safe to assume that sales dropped dramatically that week before the price drop since people were just going to wait the 6 days or so to save the $50.

So announcing sales tripled since the previous week before the price drop is pretty funny. It would be a very very low week, so of course they tripled, people that were going to buy it that week, didn't, and simply waited. Of course they tripled if you are going to compare the them to the week leading up to the price drop, when their costumers were well informed the drop was coming.

I have a PS4 already and I would buy 2 more if it meant resurrecting the game in your avatar...

10 million shipped just in the US is still pretty good. Could be some serious channel stuffing though.

Apparently its now passed the WiiU worldwide?

Didn't the price cut go live early for some retailers?
