I think we are allowed to say the name Grounded but showing pages of it goes too far. What did comic-gaf do to deserve this?

love that game, but how the fuck did they end with such a thematically incoherent beat is crazy. Paul Dini you aint a crook son; you just a shook one.
It really is awful. I think I might like Batman a little less as a result.

And the game itself wasn't as good or interesting as Arkham Asylum. The open world probably sounded great on paper but didn't work in execution, and the combat took a nosedive.

I'm picturing that little kid actually going up to a bunch of angry gun-toting drug dealers who house Superman just burnt down, going "yeah Superman said you better leave or he'll kick your butt!"

I'm sure that went well, and if it didn't, I'm sure the little boy can just look after himself

Superman Earth One turned me off the entire Earth One concept. It took Lemire and Dodson on my favorite team to bring me back.

I read Velvet #8. This book is truly special. I think it is easily one of my top 3 books currently publishing. Each issue has been fantastic and the art is just lovely. I would love a nice hardcover of it.

It's an Image book. I think everything gets a hardcover eventually.

Wytches #1: not sure this book is for me. It's well written but I just didn't enjoy the experience of reading it. Jocks art can be hit or miss with me. I really dig Sailors design though. I'll give it one more issue. Which I think came out today. But I am not optimistic. Just not a big horror guy. I tried it because I love Snyder's American Vampire.

Has mark waid ever talked about what editing doom patrol was like?

All I know is he was the one who vetoed Grant using John Constantine because they wanted to keep Vertigo separate(lol), so he went and made not-John Constantine Kipling.

edit: also he's TOTALLY Withnail from UK cult classic Withnail and I

Lol I was wonder what this not Constantiens dudes deal was

Dude was hilarious

my Superior Ironman code didnt immediately redeem. I was worried I'd have to suffer Marvel support. I emailed them anyway but sure enough it showed up.

Man, I'm starting to really get into Ultimate Spider-Man. This book is miles ahead of any Spiderman book I've ever read aside from Superior.

Doom patrol 34. 0_o.

My mind lol

Easily the funniest comic I've ever read. It's entirely classic and comedic on a Looney Tunes-genius level. The run of issues from Brotherhood of Dada to DP 34 is just my favorite in the series.

Also, shit's about to get weird.

Ultimate Spider-Man (with Peter), or Ultimate Comics Spider-Man (with Miles)? I wasn't sure if the "miles" in your statement was supposed to be a pun lol

Every time I see a page of Grounded I'm glad I never read Grounded.

It did have that groundbreaking issue where Superman beats an abusive father, proving once and for all that child abuse is a bad thing. It resonates with me to this day.

Superior Iron Man #1:
Fuck this.
Fuck this book so much.

AXIS #5:
Spider-Man and Nova to the rescue!
But... wait. How is Spider-Man there instead of in the future or wherever the other Spideys are in Spiderverse? Ugh, AXIS is confusing.

Bee and Puppycat #4:
I miss the style of the first two issues.
The different artists did some great stories, but I'm ready for the next "episode".

Haven't had the time to read any of the pull list this week, much less make a post about it before now, but better late than never.

All-New Captain America #1
I'm glad to finally see Sam wielding the shield outside of him being a personality inverted bag of dicks in Axis- there's a whole lot of potential here for something great. Sam's internal monologues have the kind of weight and emotional resonance that a Captain America should have, but I think the thing that'll keep me onboard with this book is the dynamic between Uncle Sam and Ian- the clear friction they already have with each other in this first issue is both really entertaining when it's going for humor, and really compelling when it goes for comparing the two's morals and viewpoints. I really appreciated the appearance from
Batroc the Leaper
, even if they took away his radical old costume.
Hopefully he's not actually dead like this issue implies, that would be a shitty way for a fun character to go.
Also, while the art is kind of unremarkable as it is, the silent couple small panel long fight scene was really well animated, hopefully we see some more cool stuff like it in the future.

Avengers & X-Men: Axis #5
I'm still enjoying Axis. The best thing about this issue is Spider-Man buddying up with Sam, he even gets a Rich namecheck in. It's a real crime that Nova didn't bother to bring up Spider-Man's clone brother that he's been hanging around with, but I think it's cosmically fated that Pete and Kaine will never get the one-on-one time they really need after the way SpOck fucked everything up. On the other hand, I still don't really care for reading the inverted heroes- there's something oddly hilarious about seeing Captain America call someone a "Gene Freak", and I've never really cared for Apocalypse stuff outside of Remender's own Uncanny X-Force. I still think this is one of the most entertaining events Marvel has done in years, even if it's not quite living up to my expectations for it. Still looking forward to seeing the rest of this stuff play out.

Axis: Hobgoblin #2
Yup, this book is still awesome. This is the most fun I've ever had reading a story involving the Hobgoblin, and it's a shame we're probably going to lose this characterization at the end of this event. The new Hobgoblin's constant shilling and self-marketing is super entertaining, and the kind of cartoon-esque artstyle of the book works really well for it. I think my only real criticism is that very little actually happens in it, but that's fine, because the hijinks and jokes that ensue instead of plot are more than entertaining enough on their own to justify the price.

Batman: Eternal #32
And to think, it was only a couple issues ago that I was wafting about dropping this book. The last two issues have both been phenomenal- Steph remains my favorite thing about the book, and she gets plenty of time to shine here, and now that
Jason and Hush are actively attacking Batman through Wayne Enterprises,
things are bound to only get more interesting from here.

Bucky Barnes: The Winter Soldier #2
Boy do I not know what to make of this book. I mean, it's downright gorgeous- every page looks absolutely incredible, and I love the unique artstyle here, it's just... the stories being told are absolutely insane, and kind of hard to follow, and I'm not super clear what's happening a lot of the time. When I am following what's happening, I'm really enjoying what I'm seeing- almost as much as I am baffled by its existence.
Kyle and Steve are fucking adorable, and I want to see them in more Asgardian books.

Death of Wolverine: The Logan Legacy #4
This week's issue was centered around Lady Deathstrike, a character I've never really had any attachment to. I think the book does a fine job showcasing another interesting response to Wolverine's death, and sets up a pretty interesting potential arc for Deathstrike
effectively wanting to become The Superior Wolverine of Japan
, but whether it'll have a chance to go anywhere is still to be seen. As far as the rest of the series goes, I think I enjoyed the writing here less than the X-23 chapter and more than the Sabertooth chapter, and the art was the inverse- here it's more stylized than it was just plain bad in the X-23 chapter and the first issue, though it's not quite as good looking as the Sabertooth one.

Miles Morales: The Ultimate Spider-Man #7
I still feel like Bendis has utterly failed with Miles as a character, and as if that wasn't bad enough, this month's issue is almost nothing but rehashing the same character shill venom blast "fight" scene over again for half the book, before a couple pages of story progression.
Peter deciding to just fuck off and leave Mile to be Spider-Man by himself seems horrifically out of character, but at least he's taking Mary Jane with him, so there's some closure there.
The reveal about
Kate Bishop and her parent's political affiliation fell pretty flat to me- and was a pretty poor way to end the issue out.
That said,
Miles' Dad coming back is hopefully going to turn out pretty promising.
I feel like I keep hoping Bendis will do something worth reading using Miles, and he keeps failing. He constantly hangs out with Peter's supporting cast, he fights Peter's villains, he acts like Peter in the costume, he constantly has to pause and ask "What would Peter Parker do?"- and the moment he has to do something on his own, he just ends everything with an anti-climactic Venom Blast that automatically shuts down everything it touches. Bendis finally gives Miles his own book, and what's the story about?
Bringing Peter back to life, to fight Peter's greatest nemesis, which only Miles can really beat up because of his broken ass Venom Blast.
Of course it is.

The New 52- Future's End #28
I think I was expecting more from the first encounter between Terry McGinnis and
Future's End timeline Bruce Wayne
, but it just sort of comes and goes, and is probably the least interesting thing happening in the issue. Some of the plot threads are really starting to come together, and I continue to really enjoy the book. I'm quickly running out of ways to rephrase that I'm enjoying Future's End each week.

Superior Iron Man #1
I'm not sure this book's for me. I like the look of it, but Axis has already taught me that my tolerance level for reading these inverted characters is pretty low without the fun inverted villains around to balance things out. It's going to be interesting to see how Daredevil plays out in this book, but I also have the feeling he's just going to job to the new douchebag Tony, and that's not going to be any fun to read. I'll stick through the first story arc at least, and see if they go anywhere with this that hooks me, but so far, I don't think this is going to work too well for me as a series.

Thor #2
Conversely, I'm totally onboard with this reinvention. This issue did a lot to sell me on the new Thor, and I think I'm going to enjoy reading a year's worth of her stories than I will the new Tony Stark's. Hopefully they don't keep us in suspense about who she actually is for too much longer though, I'd hope the Red Hulk shit would have taught them what happens when you leave the identity mystery hang for too long.

That's not everything I pulled, but I'm tired and should probably sleep instead of read more comics, so I'll just edit thoughts about the rest. Pretty damn good week, all things considered.

Also, not related to this week's haul, but I also caught up on Greyson at Messi's recommendation on IRC, and it was a really good idea. Even the Future's End tie-in was pretty great. Definitely looking forward to where they go from here.

Superior Iron Man #1:
Fuck this.
Fuck this book so much.

Superior Iron-Man was great. The twist was hysterical and something everyone who reads these forums would appreciate.

I kept humming "I feel pretty, oh so pretty" throughout that issue haha.

Great analyzation of the issue! I love Sam as a character so it makes me even happier to have him featured in a AAA title. I did get quite the chuckle out of
Batroc's stereotypes of Americans
:P

So i read Batman: Year One and damn guys why didn't any of y'all tell me about this book. May be the best origin story ever? Mazz absolutely destroys and the colors are top notch. It doesn't do that thing that old comics do where they look like old comics.
mazz used that Hawkeye inspiration well

I need to revisit DKR again, I have a feeling that one's gonna come out on top still.
