From whom? p3tran has been walked down this road before regarding the difference in indie developer support between platforms, and yet here we are again. Providing an easy-to-access reminder at the touch of a fingertip seems like a nice thing to do, imo.

Back on topic: this afternoon will be highly entertaining. I promise you.

Will it be though? Are we going to get numbers with both cream and aqua gone?

The problem is not if xbone sell less of the ps4. Xbone going well this period of the year. The real problem it's the whole year. There are months where xone not going well at all.

Aw yiss, I can't wait. My NPD-senses are tingling.

3:1? 3:1!

Or just something crazy enough to make NPD a bloodbath almost as tremendous as this one.

OT: MS is gonna MS with the PR. I think holiday sales will be great, but the lost revenue will end up hurting the division more than they think

Fair enough, you're right. I guess, again, my issue here is that it's not a 1:1 comparison so it's really hard to extrapolate from past data to predict what will happen next.

I think you're right on that. CoD is simply just a massive franchise that will push many to adopt new consoles since it's next-gen only. Add to the fact that Call of Duty has historically done MUCH better on Xbox than Playstation, so who knows how that might affect things.

What can i say, i'm a strange... thing.

lol

well thats obvious, i'm just not sure why you're bringing that up though, every new ip needs the effort compared to sequels, why is this being used as an excuse for titanfall's underperformance?

Right. I can see how my post would look like that, but it's not really the case. I was jumping in the middle of a back and forth between two posters (my bad), specifically addressing this (bolded is mine):

The previous bundles didn't have games as big as COD and/or Assassins's Creed and they also didn't release during months in which many people were looking for/buying new consoles.

It really isn't that similar.
Titanfall? Come on, son. That game was being positioned as the biggest game of the year in terms of marketing and online presence.

I remember way, WAY more pre-release hype for TF than Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.
So my initial response (to Hoo-doo, who was responding to Bgamer90) meant something along the lines of "Yeah, Titanfall may have been *artificially* pushed as the biggest game of the year but it was an untried/unknown property and in the end it didn't amount to much", which taken within the context of their ongoing discussion means I'm basically agreeing with Bgamer90: MCC, Assassin's Creed, CoD:AW are all bigger, more known IPs than Titanfall was.

So no, I'm not excusing Titanfall underperforming. I'm saying: This is the first one-two (three-four-five) punch Microsoft has had since it launched (Price drop, CoD/AC Bundles, MCC, etc). Please let me know if that clears up my post and its intention.

I have a PS4 and have supported sony throughout this gen as they've seemed more consumer friendly than MS overall. Still, competition is good for all parties, and it would be nice to see sony sweat things a bit if this recent MS push is really as effective as theyre making it out to be. so yeah, keep getting those consoles out there, MS. everyone wins eventually.

The one thing that I keep coming back to in my mind is how will this holiday impact Xbone going forward. Sure they will sell a lot of consoles and perhaps even more than the PS4 for a month or two. After that though then what? Can they really expect people to buy a Xbone again with no bundle at $399? When is the next Xbone exclusive to come out in 2015, because as of now only Halo 5 has a target date? Quantum Break may come out, but who knows? Xbone did a great job convincing people this year that they had the best exclusives and now price, next year I think that all vanishes though.

I know we are a very what have you done for me lately society, but I am thinking 2015 is going to be a long and slow year for Xbone. Going forward Titanfall and Sunset Overdrive type deals are going to become more difficult as well. Imagine where they would be without those games.

I am sure MS has not thought this through after XMAS in US

In no world did Titanfall underperfom. It sold a million copies to a very small user base, back when the Xbox One was still stuck with the Kinect and still trying to clean itself off the stink left by Mattrick. That game carried the system when it was at its worst.

I'm pretty sure even to date the only game on PS4 that launched better than it was Destiny. Not any of Sony's exclusives, not even Watch Dogs.

The US has consistantly been around 60% ofthe market (Launch month and updates agree with this), and with the launch in tier 3 it's likely trending more towards 50% (Much like the Xbox 360, US = 41.7m, WW = 85m~)

XB1 is 3.5m end of September, probably 200k~ in October so 3.7m. Even if US retains its 60% mark that's 6.1m end of October.

Is it really though? With ~220k from Spain and Germany from January to September, can we really estimate it's sold more than 1.2 million in Europe in the same time period? One million in UK, France and the rest? It seems highly unlikely. Extremely unlikely, even.

Most Tier 3 countries account for nothing extra as it's been on sale there for ages before the official release.

but wasn't Titanfall also on the 360 and PC?

I bought an Xbox Assassins Creed Bundle and I feel a little dirty for it, but in my defense I got it for $255 and traded that shit game for Sunset Overdrive, so it is a justified purchase imo.

When does NPD kick off? 2 hours?
I have my beers cooling in the fridge, might start on them now.

I think you're forgetting the massive hype surrounding Titanfall. The new next gen fps for the people that brought you CoD Modern Warfare! It was the next big thing.
Not only was it very hyped, but it was up against a PS4 that wasn't exactly firing on all cylinders with exclusives. It had just recently received Infamous, and that's it.

These new bundles are featuring games that are also on PS4, and in the case of AW, it looks better on PS4.

Having said that I still think Microsoft has a good chance of winning a month considering the BF $330 deals complete with gift cards and free game. I mean, they're pushing the heck out of it, and PS4 is looking like the more expensive console.

Which is why I'm not excusing its underperforming since there isn't such a thing. I was presenting a completely different argument and only mentioning "Titanfall" and "underperforming" since the user I was responding to did so.

watch dogs sold like 8m+, where's titanfall at?

but wasn't Titanfall also on the 360 and PC?
yea convenient how people forget this, 360 has the userbase to support big numbers for titanfall, only problem is that the game just isn't that good.

Uh Oh.

I guess it's either PS outsold by XB1 (by any amount, as it's not expected in October), or PS4 outselling XB1 by a much higher amount than expected...

And I think I'll be in a meeting when the numbers (or official PR) start coming in. Arrgh. :(

Bish's heads up has me thinking either MS won Oct or got stomped out badly, maybe prompting the crazy deals for Nov.

Man, I love NPD Night :')

Are people thinking MS could win Oct? I wouldn't think so but I could see November definitely going to Xbox with SSO/Halo/$350 bundle price/trade in deals and so on. If they didn't sell out of that Sunset Overdrive bundle so quickly, I'd think there's no way Sony would beat them. With it being impossible to find though right now, it could be pretty close.

I'm personally leaning towards MS winning Oct given what Bish said. There wasn't much in the month and it was sandwiched between two big heavy hitting months where I think everyone expects the PS4 to outsell the XB1 by a good margin.

I just don't see the PS4 outselling the XB1 by so much as to warrant Bish's comments. Only two more hours to find out though I suppose.

I would have guessed that PS4 took Oct. But when Bish is possibly readying the bunker, I don't know what to expect anymore.

And I agree that Nov and maybe Dec probably belong to MS. That PS4 TLoU / GTA V bundle is killer, but the cheaper XB1 bundles, some with store gift cards included, might be too much to handle.

I'd say no, but Bish's quote makes me think that it may be possible. I mean, the status quo has been PS4 sales > XBO sales, pretty much every month for the past 6-7 months. Why would the same old stuff be "highly entertaining"? I'm assuming it's either a whoppin' PS4 > XBO or a reversal of the status quo.

:p or Bish just trying to start stuff.

In theory, I don't see how they could.

Just by looking at the Amazon charts (and I think Abdiel seemed to hint that the PS4 stayed strong too), Sony has not one but 2 SKUs at the top of the monthly chart in October.
PS4: #8
Destiny bundle: #23

The closest XB1 SKU is
XB1 ($399): #35

The big unknown and where the Amazon ranking is failing in October is the Sunset Overdrive Bundle. Not only did they have a (apparently) small stock of it, but other places still had it -and- adjusted their price $50 down ahead of the official price cut for the last few days of October (Oct 27th - ), while Amazon had to rely on third party shops who started to "overprice" the bundle ($440+).

So ... Did Sunset Overdrive completely swapped things around in October?

Or did the price cut announcement during the last week of NPD actually had the opposite effect, depressing sales for people waiting for the COD/ ACU bundles?

... Argh.
