Not to bust your chops but I think you're being fed wrong info. If that was the case the weekly UK sales figures would reflect some of these changes (X1 would be moving more software).

My mate bought an Xbox One bundle last night from "the UK's largest video game retailer" which cost him £390. I priced up an equivelant PS4 bundle and it came to about £486.
They seem to be really going for it at the moment.

I'do find that hard to believe. They do have Fh2, SO and Halo, but Sony are countering with strong bundles and are price competitive.

People discuss sales in sales threads for the same reasons we discuss the box office in the box office threads over on the OT. Sales are the measure of health for the industry. You don't need stock in a company to care about how a game, or a publisher, or a platform, or the industry are doing.
XB1 has been outselling the PS4 3:1 for the last X minutes in the UK at a velocity of 4 Halo games for every XB1 which is faster than the speed of light. There's no way the PS4 can compete.

Expanding on my post above... I get why it's interesting to discuss - it's the people for whom it seems to be almost a matter of life and death or personal honour that amaze and scare me in equal measure. It's why I largely avoid such threads - can't stand all the negative emotions and hostility. Only stopping around this one as Bish is active so we have some hope of it staying vaguely sane for the next little while.
Obviously you're getting your credentials checked now, but if it works out....

In all seriousness, there's been some ridiculously good deals going on in the UK right now, but I doubt the Xbox One is selling anywhere near those numbers.

I concur. And generally I don't even skim those threads. Guess just while the topic's at hand, a bit of meta-discussion on how people react is relevant & interesting (to me at least)
Working for a retailer myself, I can tell you 100% that Xbox is not outselling PS4 3:1 in the UK. Xbox did well last week, but that was to be expected, I get the feeling that things will return to normal this week. Also I asked I'm my local game and was told in that store PS4 outsells xbox 3:1.
I wouldn't be shocked if you were fed this piece of info. When I worked for that company I felt as though they had a vested interest in the success of the Xbox One.
We once got an email telling employees NOT to talk about the Xbox One's DRM plans (around launch) to customers because it might "show bias"...
