Legend of Korra Book 4: Balance |OT| A Feast of Crows

Toph has a pretty good excuse for when she'll lose, cause she's old. But it will be one hell of a show.
She may willingly stop fighting and concede to Kuvira if her children were in danger (for example), but Toph can effortlessly earth bend and is arguably superior to anyone else in that regard. With gloves off I'd wager she could take apart Kuvira in a heart beat, but given that she has stayed out of it for so long I don't believe that is her style.

Episode 7 "Reunion" is Not up yet on Nick. Should be working again soon hopefully.

At best Kuvira should be an interim leader that leads people in a time of struggle before stepping aside for a permanent system of governance, but she now believes that might makes right. Just wait until she decides to expand that Earth empire of hers.
She was supposed to be an interim leader. As soon as she reneged on that agreement she became the villain (though the coercion was already pretty dark).

Case in point: Kuvira's desire for WMD. She has finished uniting the Earth kingdom so she should have no need for better weapons but yet she's adamant about it. Why? Because - I suspect - she wants to "unite" more than the earth kingdom under her rule.
That would make sense, considering that what she took away from her time at Zaofu seems to have been "We know best, we must spread our superiority so the rest of the world can also know best"

Ah yes, just what this show needed. A Captain Planet-esque villain motivation. What better way to hammer home the message of balance by forcefully causing imbalance. That is the definition of mustache twirling, puppy kicking, evil for the sake of evil.

The character interactions were nice, but since they quickly went back to actiony stuff, it was slightly underwhelming. Asami met her quota for dialogue, so I guess it's back to the background for the next few episodes.

I wish this was the Bolin and Varrick show. They are probably the best thing going atm.

Episode was okay. Bolin and Varrick did good.

I thought the Asami/Korra arguement sort of came out of no where, and nothing really amounted of it.

Feel like Wu regressed from his previous appearance - seems like he learned nothing.

Korra using that spirit vine technique was neat... but then when she did it at the train station where there were no vines was a little weird. I guess you could argue that the vines are throughout the City even when no visible (like they were in the swamp?). Ultimately though its a mechanic that sort of serves the same purpose as the Jinora stuff, so I'm not sure why both are needed. At the very least it was introduced more organically than astral projection.

And yeah Kuvira gets more and more evil with every passing episode. Would really like to know some motivation behind her extremism - its far beyond just reuniting the kingdom at this point.

So from what I hear Bolin and Varrick are the saviors of the show right now. It's almost like the writers didn't give me anything I wanted up till now so they could give me this present. Will watch when I get home

Lol

Damn Korrasami tease. Just make it happen please.:P And Korra looks so nice in that outfit. Pretty good episode on both side of the story, even through Wu still a bit eye rolling heh. I like when Korra was stopping him from entering the hug.XD Finally, was very nice to see more of Bolin's lava bending in action and Verrick shutting down those mechs

I wonder if Korra's dad is still there? Would have been nice to see him and Korra meet again if so. And oh no, Toph better come in to kick some ass before they take the tree down!D:

Looks like the pace is picking up, so hopefully the later half of the season will not drag on so much like it kind of did in the last couple episodes.

Lol pretty much. I think the episode was enjoyable and good. Surprised Bryke decided to not drag out Korra's despair longer. But I'm not complaining. Them switching gears here and getting the ball rolling was needed given this season overall has been slow and this episode is more of a bridge episode.

I'm still weary of how the overall season has progressed (or not progressed). But this again was another solid/enjoyable episode. I still wonder if Bryke realizes the series is almost over in like 5 episodes.

anyone else getting "content unavailable" on Nick?
I really wouldn't call it shitty more a dull and safe way to conclude the series. As there hasn't been any outright bad episodes like Book 2 had yet.

This has been a shitty final season.

Yeah it's been like that ever since Nick put up the episode. Apparently server issues

Hey Korra fans, we're having some trouble getting the latest #LegendOfKorra ep live on our site but Varrick is working on fixing it asap!

I mean, lol....there is so much Korrasami shit. It's almost unbelievable. I have to think the writers are trolling us.

lol I picked up on that too. When is Mako going to use lightning again? Bolin keeps showing off lavabending.

While it was more action heavy I thought this was another slow episode. Not much story progression. Season 4 has been a disappointment.

I watched this last night. And just woke up. But I feel disappointed in this season overall too. I still think each episode has been enjoyable as its own episode. So the technical writing is fine. But the overall story and how this season is progressing, is just dragging ass. It's as if the writers don't know their series is ending in 5 episodes. It's really baffling. Anyways, going to re-watch this episode, and come back and make a post.

Episode arrives very late on amazon, and now there issues with it on Nick.com.<.<

Must be lol. Would Nick even let them have Korra and Asami together?XD

lol please no. No more Toph fan service.
You know it'll happen as it's not like Bryke have shown restraint with this sorta stuff before.
Cough Iroh Book 3.

.

Yeah from the the commentary and interviews they've done you get the sense they get a real kick out of teasing/trolling the fans.

Ah okay. It has to be that. Because there is no way, Korrasami is happening. And yet...all the teasing. It's ridiculous. I never even thought they would do that. I mean, at first I thought fans were just reading into it (shippers gon ship). But then the moments kept coming. lol it's ridiculous.

At this point, if the are gonna use Toph, I hope it is in the context of finding out who the baby daddies are. She can be all "You are nothing like your grandfather, Jr.". Or if Kuvira uses Su as leverage to get Toph to back down, it could cause some Toph snarks about parenting.

I don't really mind her fighting. But lol her taking out entire armies. Her being the one to take out Kuvira (she won't). But anything where Toph has a major role in the main plot, I kind of have to roll my eyes at it. As I said earlier, I think she had her in time in ATLA. It's time for the Korra characters to step up and take their time in the spotlight. I just kind of find the idea of more Toph stuff to be a bit cringe/forced, because it would comes off as fan pleasing moments just to please.

I like Toph as much as the next person, but lol Just my thoughts on it. I guess I'm just weary of fan service in general. And I've overall liked how they used Toph so far. Hopefully they don't get carried away. And yeah, I kind of wish we would learn the fathers of Lin and Su. They have put too much attention on it, not to give us a hint..or tell us. Even if it's done as a joke (toph using it as a punchline or throwaway line). Just anything.

Haha yeah they are pretty well aware of what they are doing. These are the same guys who did a shipping parody video for ATLA.

You've done it now, Kuvira!

Honestly, this is kinda putting yourself between a rock and a hard place. On the one hand, Toph shouldn't lose to Kuvira so if she wins, then what's the point. On the other hand, if Kuvira cheeses out a win, then everyone will get pissed. Hmm. As much as I want to see them fight, I figured it would be nearer to the end.

As for te rest of the episode, it was pretty good. The Varrick and Bolin segments were great, not a huge fan of Asami's dialogue as it was cheesy in some spots, "IF HE GETS AWAY WE'LL NEVER FIND HIM" (yeah right girl, spirit vines and shit?)
If I were Mako, I wouldn't have let the letters thing go, that would piss me right off.
Looks like Wu is taking a back seat for now. So next episode Bolin arrives and we finally figure out what's happening next?

Overall decent episode, with much needed character interactions.

Rumor is, they DO intend to tell us. Not sure if that will pan out.

And they have not put THAT much attention on it. In fact, I think there has been a single throwaway line about a quarter of the way through last season.

And I like all the old guard enough to see them do some more stuff. The Iroh fan-servive has been a bit much, but the writers have been pretty restrained all-in-all.

Er I meant they put attention on not putting attention on it lol. They have to tell us.

I just think, the old guard had their time in ATLA. If they want to incorporate them into things, fine. But don't make them showstoppers or these major roles that shift the story. Just feels kind of weird to me. I dunno.

EDIT: I do agree it hasn't been bad. I'm not really complaining that it has been. More so, was just replying that I don't want to see Toph single handily dimsantle an army. lol Or anything too over the top. Well, I guess I would rather have that, then her be a major role in the end plot (like doing something that another character should have). So I GUESS they can have their fan service lol :P

I'd say usually the fan service is fairly organic. It appears relatively often but it meshes well.

Only exception would be Iroh's second and third appearances, which were totally not necessary.

Oh, and this episode was great. It does a fairly competent job of reminding us that these guys are supposed to be friends.

I would like to think that had the seasons been longer, we would get more episodes like these. The original series has a ton of similar episodes that all stack fairly well together.

It is these type of episodes that gave TLA so much character.

Still liking this season. Not nearly as good as the third, but enjoyable.

By the way, is anyone really surprised that Kuvira is ethnically cleansing the Earth Empire? That shit is civil war/authoritarian/isolationist 101. You do not even have to make any--of the much hated--Hitler comparisons for that one to land.

Umm there's enough time to get everyone back together and for Korra to completely get her shit together...chill...

lol enough time to only do that then + a Kuvira invading Republic City w/ spirit bomb plot. Meh. Is that what all this slow pacing has led us to? This season is in a coma and Bryke are going into the series end sleeping.

I still don't buy that Asami would have continued being friends with these people after Mako broke up with her.

hah

Guys, seriously..the show is over in like 5 episodes. This is crazy. What are Bryke doing!?

A decent job?

The have 6 Episodes worth of time. They will be fine.

TLA went from 0 - 60 in less time. That was a better series, but it can still be done.

Neither do I. She must have the soul of a saint.

Meh. This season's pacing has been really slow. Nothing they have done so far has been compelling. I'm really shocked we are 6 episodes out from the end, and we aren't really working towards anything substantial.

Also the idea of Kuvira invading Republic City w/ a spirit nuke, just sounds alright to me. Not really end game worthy. Basically, this season's overall arc has just been decent. You are right. But is "just decent" really what this final season should have been? The one saving grace for this season for me, is that I've found every single episode to be enjoyable. I don't think this season has had a bad episode. I'm just surprised the show is taking such a leisurely pace given we are so close to the series being over. It's a trip.

But so far, Book 3 and 4 in terms of episodes and writing has been really great. Guess I'll just sit back and hope this goes in a direction I think is more interesting and focus on the positives (since I do like the episodes themselves).

Fan service? It would be within her capability.

Sure. Toph is the most OP character in the universe outside of Amon. Should have had an Amon vs Toph fight.

Kuvira's character continues to take a nosedive in every conceivable way, and I'm really not a fan of retreading to the swamp but I guess they want to use Toph some more.

I find it somewhat hilarious that Korra/Mako think back to their hostile relationship with heartfelt nostalgia. Like, what? That wasn't supposed to be a good throwback; Asami was making a point of the exact issue I felt watching, which was that these characters ostensibly had developed and matured in three years and wouldn't revert back to stupid habits instantaneously. That is, the good part of "old times" was not when they were complaining and yelling at each other.
