Full match of Halo 5 mp

The background chatter is fucking awful. Jeez. So is announcing power weapons.

and I wish greenskull would keep his mouth closed.

Why am I posting here

Looked to me like it was pretty fast, but not in an insane manner. Likewise, the ttk definitely felt faster, but I do hope they dial that up a bit. Too much speed makes for a style that just doesn't feel like Halo. Overall, I think it's within the realm of Halo right now, but it's uncomfortably on a knife's-edge. I really hope the developers remember that Halo has its own style.

I don't know what to make of the gameplay, but I am happy that the ADS scare seems overblown.

What I will say is I love the new medals. They make a lot of sense and give that shot of energy whenever you get a kill that really makes the moment to moment gameplay exciting.

Wow - I'm extremely disappointed. I kind of hoped after Halo 4 and a few of the 343i snippets recently, that this would be a return to form. The clips last week concerned me based on kill times and ADS - this just confirmed my fears entirely. People can talk all they want about Halo 'evolving' - but that looked like shit.

Also the power weapon call is cool, it creates a dynamic every few minutes in the match, as people gravitate to the power weapon spawns you can set up an ambush or try and catch them off guard while they are picking up their rockets or whatever.
Reminds me of the heavy ammo call outs in destiny

I take it you == all Halo fans? Because I sure as hell think Halo needs changes. Go play MCC when MM get fixed.

I never said that. I said, "i don't think Halo fans want revolution..." I did not say "Halo fans do not want..." I stated how i feel people think overall. I know there are people who think only Halo CE is true Halo. I know there are some who think Halo is Halo if it reads Halo. There are differences.
EDIT Oops, i wrote that wrong way actually. Should have said: "I think Halo fans don't want revolution..."

I have always thought Halo needs change. Change is a must. But change does not include copying features from other games. Halo needs something made for it. And i argue thruster pack (returning from previous Halo, with tweaks) and ground pound are enough change, when combined with new graphics, weapons and maps, and especially with return to equal starts.

EDIT And i will not touch the MCC until Xbone price is dropped enough and the game is fixed. And the game's price is dropped. I don't care to pay full price for something that doesn't really give me anything new, i own all previous Halos already.

There is something with the colour palette and art style in non Bungie Halo games (including the anniversary games) that makes it look unlike Halo. I do not really like it.

Also TTK is too fast.
Yup destiny looked more like a halo game than the 343 halo games

I'm intrigued. Definitely looks a bit faster. Could easily see an MLG game type with a shields set a bit higher. The only thing I'm not liking is the climbing mechanic much like Advanced Warfare.

Call outs aren't bothering me but I can totally understand why people would want that disabled for competitive play.

It looks like a very high energy Halo game, for better or worse. If nothing else, it looks like fun at first glance.

Coming from someone who is by no means a Halo purist, this looks great. A good mix of what makes Halo itself, but also evolves it quite a bit to keep up.

I mean... It looks good. It looks fun. But will it be a good or fun Halo game.

After the backlash from Reach and Halo 4, you'd think they would take a hint and understand that fans want Halo to be a return to form. Go back and focus on the four pillars of the franchise: Running, jumping, shooting and grenades. Capture that 30 seconds of fun. Don't mask the game's unique flavor with unnecessary components like perks and loadouts. I don't care how simple or balanced Spartan abilities are or that all players have them. It's not Halo.

It's like 343 wants to put us in a sandbox with tons of toys, tools and Tonka trucks. Or worse, put us in the sandbox and then giving us a damn iPad, thus making the sand irrelevant. I might sound silly but my point is all the extra stuff and add ons are just fluff that change a game that doesn't need to be changed.

They just don't get it. No one asked for this. People just want Halo. Not Halo + X, Y and Z.

What's the problem with sprinting?

It requires larger maps (otherwise it is pointless) which do not suit Halo well and slow down the gameplay overall, it allows easy running away (even with recharge penalty), it allows melee-rushes (not good for Halo, promotes bad playing), it usually means base-movement speed is lower (otherwise why add it?), its trade-off (speed for inability to fire) is pointless and not-Halo, it is pandering for COD-crowd. It affects the controls negatively as it forces the important grenade switch button to D-pad (which is awkward to use, and in Halos, sometimes you need to switch grenades fast).
At least.
I have seen good articulated explanations why it isn't good, hope someone who knows better can write one.

Because you care and upset that a franchise you love is being tampered with.

One thing I'd love to see changed post-beta:

Slow down reload time. One thing that I love in Halo is knowing the other guy is out/low on ammo and it can give you an advantage depending on your own ammo/weapon situation.

One thing that annoys me is audio wise the game is too busy. You have the beeping everywhere, the announcer calling off every damn medal (and there is a medal for literally everything now), power weapon alerts, guns are really loud, br sounds like shit, and any other sound I'm missing. The game in general just seems to busy. Nothing's is clean or simple.

I'll say it again, they need to bring back the social and ranked split. Social has all the handy new additions, and ranked has the toned down gameplay. No one audience is held back this way.

I havent played Halo since i tried H4 and despised it.

but that looks garbage.

Weapon models, wtf?? God they look so characterless and shit. "Lets take a FAMAS and bolt some sci fi shit onto it, thatll do". Looks far too fast paced, and all dat ADS. Ugh. The map too looked so soulless. Looked like something out of the big book of Industrial Sci Fi. 343 are bloody hacks.

What, no shitty causalized social. The only difference between social and ranked should be the ranking system! That is, social lists should be just like ranked in terms of gameplay, toned down or not.
Same game everywhere.
This was especially terrible change in Reach with the title update, every list played differently.

I'm OK with most of the new additions. Ground Pound tho...ehhh, they should probably ditch that one.
From the looks of it, 343 aiming to return the franchise to being a competitive shooter. Good on them.
Meanwhile Bungie's vision of mp is more like a clusterf@#$ of OP superpowers and autoaim for casuals.

Only thing I don't love is announcing the power weapons spawn times. Knowing when they spawn and where is a tactical advantage you get with experience. Hope that changes

Oh God, Spartan Chatter is absolutely awful. 343 pls

The rest of the gameplay looks ok to me, but I fear once people become accustomed to all of these new maneuvers, it will break that core Halo gameplay that CE-3 have.

I can understand the WHY they are making these changes, but I like for my Halo games to follow the simple formula. I always found myself excited for new weapons, vehicles and equipment was actually an okay addition in my eyes. These things didn't effect player movement, but it did lead to more diverse battles in the game.

Things like thrusters, sliding, sprint, ground pound, etc. change player movement, and will ultimately make firefights more complicated and frustrating. I'm going to withold further judgement until I've actually played the beta. Maybe these additions will breed their own moments of Halo magic, just maybe.

My reasoning for dislike against spartan chatter is simple. Knowing respawn times is a key component in separating the ranks. It also destroys the element of surprise, and makes map control even more key than it currently is.

Scenario: The opposing team has you pinned by having all of the power weapons and heavy vehicles. In the past, you could sometimes miraculously get your hands onto a power weapon and change the entire game back to your team's favor. In Halo 5, the opposing team will always be made aware of when they need to control the spawn point of the power weapons.

In general I like it but I do have one major and two minor complaints.

My major complaint is that I don't like the map design. I think a majority of gameplay complaints I read here are actually caused by map design rather than things like movement speed or spartan abilities.
In general, Certain Affinity tends to overcomplicate things and put a bunch of claustrophobic stairs, ramps, and boxes in a big blender. They need to learn the Less is More approach that Bungie often had. The H2A maps look beautiful while still keeping the layout fairly simple. This is what Halo 5 needs. More open map designs you could begin on a napkin at dinner, not something you need to sit down with Autodesk CAD to figure out. If they replicated the same magic of their H2A map remakes, the gameplay would feel great.

My minor complaint is that I don't like the ledge-grabbing. Skill jumps were always a big part of Halo and this just doesn't feel right at all. Normally I'm on board with change (I actually enjoyed playing h4) but this just makes me uneasy. I'm sure their map design already relies on it though so I don't expect it to ever be removed.

The other minor complaint are the hitmarker sounds. I'm not against a sound in general, but the particular sound they are using is real bad.

What's with all of the high-pitched beeps ?

I can't watch this video with sound right now but I remember the sound you're talking about from the match at Halofest that I watched previously.

I think it's supposed to be hitmarkers but it seriously sounds like a corrupted sound file. I've heard the same sound many times before, either when breaking a sound file or when my sound output was broken. I've even heard it in Halo before, when I was modding Halo 1 PC and fucked up. This does not sound good.

Same game everywhere.

You’re implying that every social and ranked playlist will have different settings, and that wasn’t what I meant. All the social playlist will have same settings, as well as ranked will have their own unified settings.

The social one is for new players that do not know how the flow of the matches work, and in these playlists it makes sense for stuff like weapon spawn indications. Ranked playlist will be the stripped down version, with no help like weapon indicators or Spartan chatter.

It’s isn’t really that bad of an idea to be honest, because more advance or veteran players are not hamstrung along with the new players.

Yet how long have they been making this? You are not going reverse long work in 12 months.

It's better to start out with a lot and strip away, then start with less and add a lot, I think that is how 343 look at it. I like the beta has a lot to offer so that we can strip away the rubbish. If that makes sense.

So, I had a thought about marking and announcing power weapon spawns: what if combined it with the new tiered ranking system and stepped it off gradually? Like, Bronze (and Unranked) has both the spawn location markers and the timers, Silver just has the timers, and Gold and up has nothing.

Eh, i don't like that. One should learn this stuff by playing. I think having good skill-matching (naturally even in social) is all that is needed. There is too much handholding in modern games. I don't oppose the game teaching stuff... but tutorials should be in their own place. Training list with all the aids might be a good idea. But in general, ranked and unranked playlists, like Team Slayer, should be identical (no extra helps anywhere).

Also selfish reason: I really don't want all the extra crap even when i play social modes (which is/was quite often, with a friend in splitscreen).

Why couldn't they just provide match options for the user to customize the parameters of the multiplayer match?

Want "no sprint" and/or "no announcer notifications" and/or "no Spartan abilities"? Then set "no sprint" and/or "no announcer notifications" and/or "no Spartan abilities" in the options and search for servers/matches that fit that criteria.

They should add these match customization options for people who want to play a more traditional Halo experience.

Besides splitting the userbase. The maps are designed for a certain type of play, it is a bad idea. Even if the do add the old maps, might as well go play MCC then?

Tone down the guns a bit and we'll be good.

Looks amazing!

My thoughts as well. I still think this feels as Halo, and I think the increase speed and boosting, is a good idea. I was not sure about that power ground-pound armor ability to though.

The only thing I could put my finger on was the low health. I would give 25% more health all around, and then I think it's there. I think what marks CODs style of gameplay is that you can get a decent K/D by simply sacrificing yourself in every death because you die so fast. its better in COD to get yourself killed if you take 4-5 guys with you, than its valuable to stay alive. Thats what I dislike about COD. When respawning is almost instantanious it keeps momentum up but also makes death less meaningful, and not having meaningful death makes the game boring too me. I become passive about victories because their deaths dont mean anything.

When I die in Battlefield I do not want to die. the penalty of dying in battlefield is to run back. from where you came. or when the ticket count is low and every death is a tick against the clock. I dont know if this has changed in later battlefields though

Quoting for a truly excellent suggestion.

I like the Spartan chatter.
One of the best things about Gears was the funny one-liners that the characters would drop mid battle.
Adds character to the game and brought a smile to my face.

I can understand wanting to leave it out of ranked playlists where everyone takes computer games seriously...
But for us people that like to just have a bit of fun it's a welcome addition.

Camping sounds a while like map control, what many people want back from past Halos.

There's a lot of difference between map control and camping man. Camping generally boils down to some sad fuck sat in a corner pointing a gun at a door, while map control is actually moving about and securing areas to deny weapon control.
