Lol, this is sarcasm right?
No dude, other benders blow (literally, like aribenders and firebenders), she's making the world right with order and control, plus, her people are the true beings of dominance on the planet. Everyone else kinda has to go if you know what I'm getting at. Dx It's not the Earth Kingdom's fault that everything is bad, it was everyone else for putting the blame on them and allowing a crappy leader to rule. ;(
Ja, ihr Narren. Is zis planet called "air" or "fire"?
Ich sage Nein! We call ze planet of ours "Earth" for a reason.

Bow before the Überbender!

Überbender?

I quite like the sound of that.

Legend of Bolin and Varric B4 E7

So people weren't kidding about the episode. It was a whole lot of fucking nothing on Korra's side as they have a little 2cool4school adventure trying to save Prince Wu-tang Clan, and nothing relevant to the fucking plot happened except for Mako no longer having to babysit him. But that's fucking it. Who cares really this part of the story was super fucking useless and a waste of time on a show that has maybe 6 episodes left. Who thought it was a good idea to take it this lax when the rest of the show has been set-up? Who is writing this shit? Did nobody tell them they have less than half the plot now for the plot to advance?

On the other, much much better, side of the story we have Bolin and Varric. Now for all the Bolin haters this is probably going to sting, but Varric and him as a pair of wacky comedic duos is the best aspect of this season and the redeemable aspect of this slower than a constipated turtle plot progression.

Bolin and Varric (B&V for short) have an awesome bro-out as they escape the limits of earth nation. Varric has to man up for once in his life which is awesome and Bolin? HOOOOOOOO DOGGY. Bolin continues to be the most entertaining fighter this show has to offer. Ever since he became a lava bender his badass fighting meter multiplied times 1 million. The fight against the mechs alongside the fugitives was great to look at and no bender can fuck with Bolin when he makes a fucking wave of lava hahahaha get rekt.

And Varric? Varric only saved the fucking the day. Not only was the way he got them through the checkpoint awesome, he also came up with that sweet Macgyver invention in a scene that can only be described as

scJ8g61.gif

Now they are on their way to republic city. Next episode, since they'll be out of the earth bender nation, they'll probably reach republic city and warn them. Reunion with the people yadda yadda. My biggest issue is how Mako never once fucking asked about his brother and nobody mentioned it. Fuck you Mako, and krew, you're horrible fucking friends for showing little concern. Opal is the only one who showed signs of concern at the beginning.

I give this episode a 6/10

But the Varric and Bolin sections get an 11/10

Year of the Bolin continues.

Yeah, see I agree with all of your criticisms. I think in the larger context, this episode is pretty bad. As you said, there is only 6 episodes left...and Bryke are in a fuckin Coma. This season is really limping along. So I can agree the episode might come off grating, given it's placement in the story (and how the season has been going).

But I still think in terms of the balance of action, the character moments, and just the overall pacing of the episode, I think it was one of the better episodes this season (stand alone). I really enjoyed it a lot (I liked it way more than last weeks episode, which was boring/slow and just a re-tread of the Korra failing story beats). But yes, stepping back and looking at this episode in terms of where this story falls into place, and how they got us there, it's not very well done.

"mini series is where it's a-" SHUT THE UFCK UP

Bryke did this to themselves. They wanted the short format, they asked for this. They are hacks.

EDIT: Also, there is no excuse for them wasting so much time this season. They chose to make this the final plot for the series. The slow/pacing and bizarre end plot, is totally on them. Guess they ran out of ideas with Convergence and Zaheer.

they are writing the show like if they had twice the amount of episodes. There were plenty of throwaway episodes in AtlA. The difference is that the show had like 19-20 episodes per season

Yeah, no excuse. They've been doing this since Book 2. Adding way too many characters. Adding way too many side plot. They don't have the time. They said they wanted a 13 episode format. And yet they write like they have 22-25 episodes a season. These fuckin guys.

I wonder how fast Bolin will be forgiven even though he worked with Kuvira for what 2/2.5 years? He's known Kuvira longer than he's known Korra. The conversation would probably something along the lines of

Mako: "But you worked for that tyrant for so long."
Bolin: "BUT I DIDNT KNOOOOOOOW"
Mako: "Oh, Bolin" (cue laugh track)

I would pay good money for a Bolin & Varrick movie. They have amazing on screen presence. Also, Bolin's zenkai and the 3 year training period before the androids . . . I mean Kuvira came is really doing his bending some huge favours.

It will get swept under the wrong. Opal hasn't even dumped Bolin, even despite her believing he's with Kuvira still. She doesn't seem angry, just upset. Which means when she sees Bolin come back to her, she'll be all emotional and embrace him. He'll just give his spiel about being tricked and being sorry. And that he'll make it right by helping her save her family and taking down Kuvira.

Blah blah. Yeah, they won't do much with this IMO

This is par the course for them.

?

Bolin and Varric have a very good argument. They weren't part of the inner circle and once it was made obvious that she was more violent/crazy than she made apparent they wanted out. There is little to forgive outside of not seeing the truth because they were too focused on the good.

Good man. Same here. Their chemistry/dynamic is too good which is why it's a shame he'll join the krew again. Boring fucks. I wish they all just died so Bolin and Varric could save the day.

I'll never forgive them for not fleshing out Zaheer's group, but I really liked this episode. I know its wasn't exactly moving along at a brisk pace plot-wise, but I liked all of the character interactions.

Last season, P'Li said: "you saved me from that warlord" to Zaheer.

C'mon, don't tell me we won't get to see any of that!

I miss that group, last seasons more action oriented pacing and Ming-Hua's acrobatic ass water bending. This season will be fine to marathon but this one episode a week shit is painful.

I have no problems with Mike and Brian. If the writing of Korra isn't what I wanted to be, I'll rightfully cite them for it, but I don't think them to be hacks or uncaring of the franchise they've cultivated. I love both of the series they've made, for better or worse.

Meh. I think they have proven themselves to be hacks. Great idea man, poor storytellers. A lot of the problems with this show are their own fault and the bizarre choices they wanted. And their continuous push to do things that are poor (such as writing as if this is a 22 episode season despite them pushing for 13). That said, I do love the world of this series. And have enjoyed these series overall.

Bolin and Mako actually have good chemistry as well. It's just that whenever they add Korra into the mix the narrative ignores Bolin or tries to make him out as a huge joke. There is just a constant desire to cripple his relevance when Korra and Mako are together. His identity and core relationship to the group is basically Mako's brother. It's annoying. He doesn't really have any good interaction with Asami (besides the great Pai sho bit last season) or Korra (bar some bits in season one like the date which was actually good). Keeping him away from the main group is doing him a ton of favors honestly. You get to see his personality not being crippled by characters they rank of higher importance.

Alright, just finished watching this week's episode. I thought it was pretty okay, it was mostly propped up by Varric and Bolin portion of the episode. Also dat Korrasami. Le sigh from the predictable turn for Kuvira, fascism Ho!
Hm... the last major plot points left so far seem to be the following: Reunion of the Krew, development leftovers for Korra, Progress/completion of the WMD, the Earth Imperialium declaring war on another state, and defeating Kuvira. The last two episodes would probably be dedicated to the last point, leaving only four episodes to progress through roughly four major points. Whelp...

I wouldn't call them hacks per se, but just really shitty at pacing.

For me, Korra has been at its most enthralling when there was some intrigue attached. Amon in Book 1, and the Red Lotus in Book 3. The mystery behind learning something new about those villains per episode jacked up the pacing in my eyes.

I'm afraid that Kuvira will end up like Unalaq, no motivation or backstory to be simply defeated in battle. What are her legitimate stakes here? Nothing has been foreshadowed or hinted at, and it's annoying.

I can't wait for Kuvira's army to goose step into Republic City.

I guess I'm being a bit harsh. Because even if I have issues with their writing, they still do a lot of good things. But I do see them more as idea man than storytellers.

TBF there's no way this season could be stretched for a whole 20+ episodes, it's kinda boring now... imagine the pacing for that...

There's basically just Kuvira's super weapon Korra getting out of the funk and the fight vs Kuvira.

Hyping up only one competent but one dimensional villain and have the good guys have no other pressing or ongoing goals doesn't lend itself well to many episodes.

Actually if you develop your villain characters instead of just making them "muhahaha" evil then it's not that hard to fill in some extra episodes. There's loads they could do with Kuvira, but they aren't doing it. The same could be said with last seasons villains.

Eh, it's not that they lack good chemistry. It's just that it's not written very well. We're the relationships written it would come off as"good chemistry"

With the way they characters are written in seasons 1 and 2, their dynamic should not be nearly as stable as it seems to be in Seasons 3 and 4.

When people complain about the weird group dynamics, this is what they are referring to.

I never really consider Seasons 1 and 2 when I consider the characters as they are in Seasons 3 and 4. I think the writers are essentially doing the same thing.

Am I the only one that thinks Lavabending is beyond OP?

Bolin is a freaking threat right now, he could sweep everything lol

It definitely is powerful but the thing I noticed is that it is slow. It's good for covering an area but if the fight kept moving locations or someone was on that zaheer shit, then it wouldnt be a problem

Korrasami isn't even remotely hinted. Like, I dunno, even believing it's a possibility is being delusional.

I already think they are a couple because I am tiring of the teasing. They want to have those two hook up fine, but as a giant troll to the audience it has gotten old.

Korrasami isn't happening.

In fact, I believe that it is more likely that Daniel Bryan descends from the heavens with a diving headbutt in the final episode as this season's deus ex machina after Korra gets pushed to the edge, then proceed to put Kuvira in the YES! Lock until she taps out, then allows her to get up only to knee her in the face.

It also seems to be extremely dangerous to allies in the immediate vicinity. Bolin really could not cut loose until most of escapees were out of the way.

You and I. We will get along

So Bolin is the one who should get a spin-off?

Eh, Bolin is a little slow/dim and also looks for the best in people so when he was with Kuvira he thought she was actually doing good. He never saw the bad stuff happening in the places they left (people being put into camps etc). Kuvira was always lying to him and he didn't really have a reason not to trust her at that point. Once he got suspicious and started asking questions after being in "the inner circle" he figured out she was cray cray pretty fast and wanted out.

Varrick is also kind of an idiot but also a genius. He wanted to do the science while Zhu Li did the thing. When he figured out that she wanted to use his unlimited energy source as a weapon he wanted out too. It's just up to that point both of them were too caught up in the whole "We're doing good. We're unifying the Earth kingdom!" thing.

I think Opal will be upset and take the longest to come around but the others would be pretty forgiving.
