Yams please don't ever calm down

The hype never dies.

Yams going hams with the gifs

I was figured out.

I wonder when/if Nintendo will ever decide to shut it down. Adding new characters is a big deal.

They added Mewtwo and Roy in the game. However, the 4 characters rumored to be added in is a big deal though as you said. Lyn, Knuckles, Saki/Sami (been hearing both and only know the former from Capcom) and Ridley (supposedly he's in but they still have to finish a lot with him). PM 4.0 update is gonna be big and hope nothing happens because the sole fact that they have a donation button on their website spells their doom.

Edit:

My cousin lied, I see no donation button.

I do recall the PM team saying something about never adding newcomers that would debut in Smash 4.

But yeah, it's still tip-toeing around things (not that this method makes everything legal)

I really only play Street Fighter, but I'm thinking of picking up Smash when it drops for the Wii U. Mostly just to have another Wii U game at this point. Never got into Smash in the past though. Any good tips/links for transitioning from traditional 2d fighter to smash?

At least they're doing a better job of it then Nintendo ever did with the series. It should speak volumes on how Nintendo should handle their games, whether its with the casual or hardcore audience, people prefer speed over floaty-ness and I still think Sakurai is a nut for believing that Melee was too fast for players. Everyone (seriously all my friends and co-workers) I've played with loves Melee over Brawl and loves PM over Brawl. I try to get hype for Smash 4 but I just can't handle how damn float the slow some of the characters can be. I'll patiently wait until I extensively play Smash 4 but it looks like I'll stick to Melee in the long run to get that fix from Nintendo.

Its not really a tip but more of an observation you'll realize as you play the game is that the neutral/zoning game is a different beast in smash games, its takes a lot more things into account. Street Fighter is as linear and bare bones as it gets in terms of the neutral and zoning game. Melee on the otherhand just takes that and expands on it a bit more with multiple directions and attacks. Watch vgbootcamps on youtube for uploads on tournament matches, grim does a excellent job providing quality and quantity for the channel.

I'm sure they didn't want to overlap with Smash 4 entrants but I seem to remember them saying that the big "consideration" was that they weren't going to include any character that wasn't referenced within Brawl materials, so everything post-Brawl character wise was a big nope.

I think the biggest problem is that they might do a better job with some characters than Sakurai. I saw PM Mewtwo, and I got so hype until I realized he probably won't be half as great in Smash 4.

The same logic applies. I recommend watching some recordings of Smash 4 play.

These are original characters though. Now they are competing with the roster. Also, PM came out when Smash was primarily old and dry on the Wii. Now it is competing for attention. It is incredibly generous of Nintendo to not shut it down right now.

Have you not watched any Smash 4 play? Floaty is not a term I would apply to the game.

Thanks Kadey!

Edit:

You have failed me, the stream is down!

I have watched the game quite a bit for tournaments on the 3DS. I wouldn't say its as floaty as Brawl but it feels like the characters are moving through a batch of honey, slowing them down a bit. I still don't know if my statement is valid which is why I'm waiting for Smash to come out on the Wii U so I can see for myself.

Not really. Smash WiiU, at least at this point, has little in common with traditional 2d fighters. You're going to be playing footsies with floaty jumps, aerials that provide frame disadvantage and KOF-style dodges, but in the air, and it's all going to look and feel just as awkward as it sounds.

Ya I planned on watching some videos. I'll keep my eyes out for more. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll look into those channels.

Would you say the neutral is more like marvel then SF? I haven't even watched much Smash tbh. I played Marvel for a minute, but the online was so bad I just can't. Also that game makes me so salty it's unhealthy.

Another part of the reason I'm interested in this game is because I know some people who will be getting it so I'll have plenty of offline comp.

Kimo is spot on with what was said above and if you want to make a parallel to Marvel with Melee, than kind of yeah. You have more degrees of freedom in Smash than Marvel, additionally, Melee is somewhat like Marvel, only thing is you can't necessarily block in the game. You can nullify some moves but even using your shield becomes detrimental if you spam it to grabs, reads that turn into smashes, etc. The meta is certainly a bit higher than your usual fighting game.

:T

So who's getting KOF98 once it hits steam?
I am!

I just hope I can get into it. I used to be a huge KOF fan, but even though I think XIII is great, it never really grabbed me. I don't know if I'm simply more of a 1v1 player these days, I don't play any "team" fighter these days.

It is in between. Spacing and footsies like SF, movement options and pacing like Marvel.

Here is a video that demonstrates what I mean pretty well:

Gotta support SNK, especially if the quality's good. Though they aren't doing a beta for it like they did 98, so I'm worried this port is just for the 360 version with the FE changes.

I actually been meaning to look up Aerolinks Palutena.

I've just recently gone back to her for a bit. How do you think she fares so far, Karst?
I haven't played a good Palutena yet, but she looks strong in videos. She has weak KO potential it seems, though. She also strongly differs in her abilities based on customs or no customs. Customs Palutena is undoubtedly strong, especially with the Lightweight glitch.

I just skimmed over that whole character switching = disrespect thing but don't you guys normally have a rule where you can only switch characters if you lose? So that way counter picks are a bit more nuanced and you don't spend half the time on the character select screen...

...man I have no bloody idea what that's about. All I see is a Budget Chris Rock with a guy that looks like that Drake fellow.

No instead, spend half the time checking notes, doing button checks and getting coached. That being said. True

Am I doing it right?

i do 2-3 rounds with main, then cycle through a specific list of characters unless otherwise specified.

unless i play kadey, then its random only. no items. final destination.

So about the Topanga league

Besides Daigo, who else beat Sako? I thought he was undefeated last I check but then saw a chart and he had 3 losses. Though to be honest, I only keep up with it sparingly since I don't buy Nico Nico points.
