Rewatched the episode.

I'm never going to get used to mechs in Avatar. I just can't do it. They've around since the first season and they've never not felt completely and utterly out of place.

Its that they're CG. Most of the CG looks out of place, but the mechs stand out more.

I will bet that Kuvira becomes something more superpowered, just so that she can deal with Korra's AS. My wager is that I will ONE. WHOLE. DAY. Without shittalking Arrow.

I fear for the resulting psychic backlash if you suppress your negativity about Arrow. It could be devastating.

This is what everyone thought, but I know that everyone knows that if that wasn't just a hallucination, everyone would be flipping their nose about how much sense this season doesn't make.

If it was written in well, maybe not. Remember, the dark avatar is supposed to eventually be a thing, vaatu vs raava and all that, the darkness is suppressed but never completely gone. Vaatu is supposed to gain strength back at some point I think. So why not a dark avatar cycle?

But it wouldn't be good writing in that case considering it would have been a huge nosepull with no foreshadowing or hints whatsoever.

Vaatu was weak ,then sealed and Unalaq killed, supposedly he is not a threat now. Not even his spirit vines are relevant now, with the swamp.

what about giant drills?

The one in the ATLA seems pretty low tech.

Maybe. Perhaps it's also because I associate mechs with space age technology due to all the mecha anime I've seen. When I think of mechs, I think about computers and OS and stuff like that. I'm just not able to make the connection with LOK in a way where it doesn't stand out negatively.

A good number of years have passed since then, it's not too out there. I'm not a big fan of them either, the chi blockers and Asami do well enough against the benders, so the attempt to up their abilities was necessarily needed.

I honestly just miss the roaring 20's feel of the first season.

The best Kuvira v Korra fan art are the non lewd KLK ones

I wouldn't be surprised if they kind of wanted to go down that road in terms of personalities
The only problem is Satsuki's a pretty decently written G, Kuvira isn't. After watching all of Kill La Kill Kuvira isn't good enough to be compared to Satsuki. Satsuki owned her responsibilities, we just have no clue what the deal with Kuvira is, not enough personality.

I'm not saying it's simply not possible they developed technology that fast, but I am saying that I still find it jarring.

I don't even know what to expect if we get a sequel taking place after the events of LOK.

I'd honestly want a future avatar series to go into crazy stuff like that, but I'd imagine a large chunk of the fanbase would complain about the show straying too far from it's roots.

Yeah it did feel like the 20's in the first season, but that's mainly because it was confined to Republic City. We still get that taste when we go into Republic City. The rest of the world era-wise I can't pinpoint.

I was just trying to pinpoint it myself and couldn't but yeah, that's it exactly.

Republic City captures that essence very well, it's not really that apparent in other places.

If Toph doesn't demolish Kuvira and her army, I'm never going to forgive this show. They've already committed the egregious act of severing the connection with all the avatars.

Nice Janet Varney said in a recent interview that Zelda Williams is doing commentary for the Book 4 Bluray.
Summary of the interview here.

Hamlet back me up here.

Backup here if just a tad late. Shakes fist at Kuvira haters.

Would have loved to see how much the fire nation had progressed since we last saw it as they were always on the forefront with new inventions. Guessing parts of it would have progressed quite a bit compared to the other nations.

Yeah, such a shame. The only way we see the Fire Nation this season is if Kuvira goes Ozai Mode and attacks them.

but I doubt that will happen. She will likely attack Republic City.

You know what would be interesting direction would be if Republic City actually fell to Kuvira in the next two episodes or so and Korra and the Krew had to retreat back to the Fire Nation to find a way to stop Kuvira once and for all and gather up their forces again. I Don't care how now I just want to see a small glimpse of The Fire Nation.
This theory is only based on the fact that Mike said in a
Q&A that Zuko's daughter would be showing up again later.

But the show will probably just go down the path of having Kuvira attack Republic City as the endgame for the series finale.
