It could be meaningful if they are also going to "recap" the 3-year gap we didn't see. That could very well explain Kuvira's motivation, too.

Hope rises.

It's been said before in here but I wouldn't like the Legend of Korra one half as much as I do if it weren't for KorraGAF. I made some good friends in this community, and I've learned a lot by talking with you fine folks. I like the series standalone, but KorraGAF made me love watching it.

Y'all the real MVP.

I'm the same. I've enjoyed discussing the show more than watching it some of the time.

And now our journey as KorraGAF is coming to an end this year. :(

That's all fine and all, but is that what the show said?

We're speculating on Su not taking it because she's too hardcore libertarian or something.

As far as I know, she just said "No".

This is a major problem with the characters of Korra in general. We know Zaheer thinks anarchy is preferable but not why. We know Kuvira wants to 'unite' the earth kingdom, but not why that has to include Zaofu. We know Su objected to being the 'ruler' but not why.

Then adding whatever biases due to the previous stuff the character did before (which funnily enough also gave no reason why) lol

Same thing happened to Toph.

:trollface

Also i agree with the show being unable to say "why" when the characters do some of these things since a few of them are way out there tbh (Aang's snafu with the kids is also a prime example).

in other news, recap episode?

Nyj9cWz.gif

if its not in the same vein of Ember Island Players then i'm not sure what the fuck is going on over there honestly

They can't seriously be doing this when all signs point to a brawl between Toph and the most baller Metal bender in the Avatar universe's modern age. This had better be amazing or there will be riots.

Oh, and I agree with everything bad said about Su. Lin seems like the only good thing to come out of the Beifong family (besides Opal) in a good while.

What if it's all an elaborate troll and they are trying to deceive us and then suddenly Toph vs Kuvira!?
Friday is gonna be disappointing as shit

Really, they're doing another filler episode?

This gives me no hope as to any development on Kuvira. Looks she's generic Unalaq eeeeeevil 2.0.

Ugh ugh ugh.

They're probably going to do Ember Island Players in the style of a mover. Can they stop using nostalgia bait and do something original?

Ember Island Players was great, and avoided the major pitfalls of anime recap episodes by (1) staying visually interesting since it wasn't literally the same footage as before, and (2) featuring actual character moments and even some development for the main cast. I imagine this will be in the same vein, considering the bit about Varrick and the movers in the synposis. Maybe they'll be able to pull off the same trick twice, although I don't think it'll be as good the second time around.

If anyone is watching Shirobako, it gives a lot of insight on why recap episodes happen. (It's an anime about anime production. It's real real good.)

Ember Island players was a great episode. I'm excited for this one to see how they handle it. I'm sure I'll like the episode but I hate that an episode like this will be crammed late into the last season. Well unless maybe they have a lot of relevant stuff in the episode too but idk...

To be fair, Unalaq had more personality in the movers than he did in the actual series..
When it comes to the movers I saw them as a piss take with the sci fi serials from the 50's so pretty much he was like Ming from the flash gordon movie. Dude was pure kraft certified cheese.

Whoa a lot of Ember Island player hate, I thought it was a fun episode for a rather serious season up to that point.

Yeah I quite liked the Ember Island episode also but at the same time I wonder is this the best time for Bryke to do an Ember Island 2.0 episode when they're already pretty limited for time.
Still I'm looking forward to seeing how Varrick tells his story.
Should be fun at least.

If they dont do it now, its never :O
Hmm, i dont think these pics have anything to do with the episode, they seem random-
Edit:lol these are new,my bad.

Though I am interested, why are Recap episodes important for anime/long running series anyway?

its a chance for new fans who didn't start in the beginning (of either the current arc or the entire series) to get acquainted, but its usefulness seems hard to justify as the series goes longer unless its just arc recaps at that point.

Plus as Veelk said, if you want to go with a harsher tone

And refreshing the goldfish who happen to be watching the show that can't check wikipedia for a summary.
I always thought it was for budgetary reasons as well. Gundam Wing had two back to back for a reason and don't even get me started on Gundam Seed Destiny, show was done on a shoe string budget.

Yeah that's also one of the reasons as they're usually very cheap to do. It's the main reason TNG's second season ended on a clip show recap as they had run out of money by that point.

I started watching Doctor Who in it's 30somethingth season, and whenever an element from the past was brought up, they just have a newb character go "Oh, whats this?" and then the doctor goes "Oh, I''ve seen this before. This is blahdeblah. It blahs and blahs and de's"

That's all you really need to do as far as bringing people up to speed.

A recap episode? Deep into a 13 episode season? Oh for fuck sake. Prepare yourselves for the most rushed series finale in history guys.

Honestly, this wouldn't be a problem if each episode was an hour long(like they should be with a 13 episode season), but with each of them being 20 minutes long this is a waste of time.

Seriously, a recap episode? Just after the last episode ended with a tease of Kuvira vs Toph?

... This is going to end badly, I feel it. How in the hell are they going to finish their plot threads in the remaining episodes? Even if it seems like there are going to be new developments, I'm sure they won't advance the story in a real way.

Though I am interested, why are Recap episodes important for anime/long running series anyway?

In addition to the reasons already mentioned, it's a quick and easy way to crap out an episode to meet the weekly deadline while buying more time for the animators to work on the next actual episode if they start to fall behind.

That doesn't seem to be the case here though, so I'm at a loss. Ember Island Players was well-positioned in Book 3: Fire. It was the perfect "calm before the storm" episode, but that only worked because of the length and largely episodic nature of Book 3. TLOK's seasons are structured differently, with ratcheting tension in the second halves before an explosive finale. Or at least, that appeared to be what they were aiming for in the first three seasons. Maybe they intend this to be their mid-season point, sort of like "Beginnings" in Book 2. But that would leave them only five episodes for the whole rest of the story.

sometimes storyboards or a certain item of production isn't done in time. God knows what Nick did to their budget. In really long standing series, like One Piece, it's a time to give the animators a break, or give themselves a buffer as they get too close to a manga artists release schedule

Yeah this is it. Ember Island Players was a great episode in TLA.

However it just doesn't seem like a wise decision given the context of season 4 Korra.

Those are all valid points, I see them make more sense in a series with 100-200+ episodes, but Legend of Korra as a whole is pretty short already, plus this isn't a season final, but a series final. Season 2 or 3 would be proper for a recap, not the last season with only 13 EP which they did a good time wasting a lot of time already.

Honestly, this doesn't even feel like a proper season, it feels like a weird filler season of a buffer season before they got to the meat of the story.

Yeah hopefully its not a full recap and they better show Toph after that last scene in the latest episode.

neat
so no character development for Kuvira lol

Tao TAK, only five episodes left.
Korrasami is too important to waste time on Kuvira.

lol a recap episode in the homecoming stretch, Toa your girl Kuvira ain't getting redemption

it will most likely be a fun episode and probably a fan oriented one with a lot of winks and nudges to the fanbase with shipping wars

so it's now or never for you korrasami faithful
