Super Smash Bros. for Wii U |OT| True Potential of Smash Bros.

This is going to be a really long day at work today....
Exactly.

I had just enough time last night to get the game home, play a few, start Sapphire, then fall asleep.

Today my goal is to hunt for an adapter or more hopefully a bundle.

So what am I missing? I haven't played a smash game since Melee, which I had a bit of fun with. I picked this up to play with friends, but I'll be honest, it just isn't clicking.

I find the controls unintuitive and the action chaotic in a very unfun way.

What should I do?

I suggest you learn how to play the game, and play 1v1 For Glory.

I dunno, maybe the game isn't for you, which is fine.
Though the last thing I'd say about Smash is that the controls are unintuitive.

So beautiful. So smooth. Heaven.

Pro controller proving to be a bit of a learning curve mechanically, but that can be partially attributed to playing so much 3DS. I don't see why it wouldn't be just as good as the GC controller ultimately though; my thumb touches the right stick and face buttons at the same time.

I was able to sneak in about 30 minutes of play time before work so I decided to play some classic.

Wow, they are really pushing the 5-8 player action. So chaotic. I'm not sure how I feel about so many simultaneous players.

My GC adapter hasn't arrived yet so I played with the pro controller. I have been enjoying the 3DS layout, so it was a fairly natural transition. I need to switch ZR to shield though.

I notice when I pick an alternate costume it does not stay there, you have to pick it every time, the 3ds version remembered it

Does it remember your rules? I'd much rather pick my alt every time than have to set the rules.

Probably doesn't. Sakurai bias means it always starts with timed!

I felt the same when I played Melee and Brawl. On both occasions I played with a friend, and couldn't really understand how the game worked. I had no hype for the Wii U version... until the 3DS demo came and I finally had the chance to play alone and learn how things work.

That's when it clicked for me. So, maybe you just need to play alone, taking your time to learn it. It's actually a very elegant game, you'll probably get it pretty quickly.

I'll just wait until Bestbuy has the bundle in stock. Honestly the Wii U pro controller feels perfect for smash. I have absolutely no issues with it.

The one thing I prefer on the 3DS is that I don't have to always remember to set my name to remember that I don't want up-jump. :/

So I can't even use the c-stick to make aerials while moving forward anymore? If I use the c-stick, the left stick is useless. They are really trying to remove depth from this game series.

This game has so many stupid gameplay decisions.

Wait what? It doesn't conserve your momentum?

I notice that if you hold up and tap up on the c stick, it up tilts instead of upsmashes, but I didn't know if that was new or old.

I have a Wii U Gamepad and a Wii U Pro controller and a Wavebird. I really don't want to play Smash with the Gamepad, and my girlfriend will probably use the Pro controller.

Now... question is... should i buy another Pro controller or try to find an adapter to plug my Wavebird? I suppose i'll be having a hard time finding that adapter in (canadian) stores. Might have to look online.

I'm shocked with how nice it is to play the game with a Gamepad. I was worried I would have a hard time because I don't have a TV on my room.

What you apparently can't do is jump in one direction, aerial attack, then left-stick the opposite direction in mid-air.

Which actually makes it more physically accurate, but is a strange change for this game.

Edit: and yet I can retreating aerial using the A button. Lulz.

That was in Brawl. Especially annoying that you can't hold crouch and do a down smash. :\ Can't remember if it can be toggled off. I don't think it can.

What's this about momentum now? I felt like fast falling uairs was a lot easier. But my hands were so confused trying to get a feel for the C-stick above the buttons on the pro controller. So alien to me still.

I have a weird theory regard with Congo 64 stage. I think it might be last minute addition to replace Miiverse stage's placement to keep the stage selection symmetrical since they probably ran out of time to work on Miiverse stage for disc release.

It's very odd that we only get one 64 stage.
