Super Smash Bros. for Wii U |OT| True Potential of Smash Bros.

Some people in this thread aren't being specific about their types of connections or who they are playing with, but a lot of the early feedback is that the online is working quite well (especially with a LAN adapter).

i'm 80 down/10 up, east coast (florida), lan connected. 1v1 for glory (no items) is perfect, negligable input delay. been playing people all over the u.s., not much difference in delay. the only lag i have noticed is 4v4 for fun with items, which as you can imagine is a fuckton of data to manage at 60fps. still, only 2 of those 17 or so for fun games i played were bad, the rest were good. that is a miracle.

typing this while taking a massive dump.

iz awl bout dat 1v1 tho, and namco nailed it.

Get a wired ethernet adapter. At this point Nintendo should update the in game interface to include a link to Amazon.com to order a Lan adapter.

Any one in particular work the best or all about the same? Was probably going to order a LAN adapter (crazy the Wii U doesn't have an ethernet port), a powerline adapter, and a network switch tonight because my matches have been pretty awful so far (despite MK8 being flawless).

I apologize if this has been answered. Does this have a tournament style online mode similar to Mario Kart? This alone would sell me on the game. I loved that feature on Mario Kart to drop in and out with GAF members at any time.
I would love that as well but I don't think so.

Outside of the disappointment in no Bowser Amiibo until next year, I'm pretty content with my pickup experience today. No pre-order and I got the bundle, a yoshi, a pro controller, and the hardcover guide.

Question: how much Amiibo interaction is handled on the game pad screen? My screen is currently cracked. :/

Wow you are incredibly lucky getting a bundle without a pre order.

I think to scan the amiibo, you tap the bottom left portion of the gamepad not on the actual screen.

Don't know if I should pick this up, I've got dragon age and it feels like it'll be a time investment but this would be my first smash.

I'd mainly get this for online and I don't have this lan connector, how screwed would I be?

Time to start smashing!

I'm glad I ended up pre-ordering Marth. The store I bought him from only got one.

Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback (though not for the TMI about poop!). You can do 1 v1 with items too right?

The lag you noticed, was it input or was it just the entire game? Also, did 60 fps ever have problems to your eye?

Zelda seems to be much improved from Brawl. Hoping to main her again for glory since she was my Melee go to, but she's not feeling very viable for "fun" or local clusterfuck matches.

I didn't comment on the unlock earlier but mine was also brilliant. My apartment turned the power back on right at 10, which is when it went live in my timezone. About five minutes to download and install the last bit of data and I was in.

So quick impressions of my hour playtime yesterday:

-Controls are way better
-New Stages I played were all really fun.
- Pyrosphere has the cool Ridley mechanic.
- Orbital Gate is the new Big Blue (which I love),.
-Town and City is basically big Smashville (which is good).
- Wrecking Crew is neat, but not my favorite. It's essentially Tomadachi Life with destructible floors.
- Great Cave Offensive was a blast with 8-players.
- Hyrule Temple is obvious 8-players, too. Survivabilit

- Amiibo training has been fun. I mostly played 2v2 (me and my amiibo, Link) against 2 lvl 9s. Link really sucked at first, but we eventually started winning matches. He's level 25 now (already!). Haven't gave him any equipment or anything yet.

- Character and animations are way better looking in action than in screenshots. I said damn. It's quite a huge difference in action.

- Seriously 8-player Smash is insanely fun. I love it. I'd recommend trying it out, even if you don't have 8 people to play with. I played a couple rounds at the GS midnight release, and actually won! (with Rosalina, no less...with 1 kill lol). We did a few FFAs and then 2v2v2v2 on GCO which was madness.

I'm going to play with my wife this weekend. I plan on playing a lot of 4v4 with amiibos to fill out my team.

Anyway, that's my like 1 hour + GS midnight release impression of the game. So far really fun. Haven't touched online yet.

Played my first For Fun 4 player Smash, and there wasn't much lag. Slight delay compared to 1v1, but it's more then playable which is all we can ask for.

Now that a lot of you have the game, who would you say is the best looking character model? Once you see them in action, it makes a huge difference. I was a little worried based on screenshots, but once you see these models in game and in motion, a lot of them are really great looking.

I'm clearly biased, but I think Ike looks really good. His face is spot-on to Senri Kita's artwork.

you can 1v1 with items. the lag is input, comparable to an input delay of 2 to 3 in street fighter iv (1v1, with or without items). totally acceptable (dunno if that framing helps you). suffice it to say it's negligible unless you or your opponent has stone-age internet speeds.

fps is rock solid in my eyes, for reference i used to get annoyed when my quake 3 rates dipped below 90.

expect some chug in 4v4 with items, although in my experience it's been minimal (and level dependent)

The online is just so perfect so far for me, 0 lag and I mean 0, holy crap (this is for glory 1v1 or 2v2 tho)

Btw 2v2 is incredibly fun I love it.

I figured a lot of the problems with 2v2 lag on 3ds was just the system not being able to handle it.

Question: will individual gc controllers be sold in stores or do you have to buy them online

Is Fountain of Dreams music in the game anywhere? If... anyone's unlocked it, that is. Important to know because that's like my favorite rendition of Gourmet Race and if it's not in the game anywhere..... ;~;

Thanks for the info guys, Kandinsky, I assume you are on LAN?

This sounds so glorious!

Which character moves set is the closest to a street fighter character ? Newbie question.

So C. Falcon and Ganondorf bros, how are they holding up?

Cap Falcon is same as ever, still just as powerful and speedy. Ganondorf is slow and can't jump that great but hits like an absolute truck, his SideB and UpB latch on to people fast and easy, and the wizard's foot bulldozes people. He's better than he ever was.

any Mega Man mains here??...

I feel him "weird" compared to the 3DS version... I just can't connect any aerial and he seems a little more "slippery"... it's just me or there's something wrong?
