Can't deny it made me laugh tho, and loved how Bryke joked about how everybody hates Unalaq, and how Mako is a fuck up when it comes to serious relationships lol

I love Korra Alone. And I love her time at the Swamp with Toph. To you, it's slowing down the plot.

But Korra's struggle is the plot. Kuvira is just another means to that end.

And besides, we still have like 3 hours left. Things can go crazy in the final hour. And when it does, it will feel earned and not like it rushed there.

I myself just wish they would have done more with it. I'm in a weird spot. See I actually thought the concept of Book 2 was great but the technical writing was abysmal. Like actual single episodes were a mess and not enjoyable. I feel the opposite this season. I think the writing has tightened up since Book 3 and yet I'm not as thrilled with the overall plot/concept and how they are moving it.

That said you are right that it at least I'm enjoying each episode on it's own. Again sorry for the tone.
 
On the most part, a horrible episode as predicted. But I'll forgive Bryke for it, since they made the best of a bad situation.

On a personal level, Bryke should be applauded. They are real stand up guys with what they did here. And honestly, fans can "deal" with a shit episode, for the sake of a team working so hard keeping employed and feeding their families.

I give them mad props. I might not be a fan of their decisions as writers, but on a personal level this is really great. I wish more people in the industry were this selfless. I've been in it before (not animation), and it's a pretty shit environment where people don't usually look out for others.

So my respect level actually went up. And god knows, animation is such a hard and laborious job. My heart actually goes out to them, and the kind of conditions they work under. And the fact that they have Nick fuckin them over every step of the way (making their job harder than it needs to be, and not giving them the support they need). So yeah, while in the context of this season, this sucks. In the larger scheme of things, this is good.

I think fans can come together and recognize that Bryke did good here.
 
There's a good swell of emotions in Korra's part for a second, but then it's pretty hamfisted. But you HAVE to watch the third section, cause it's literally a different story.
 
I actually liked the episode. I was in tears during Varrick's part, it made the whole episode worth it in my mind. For a clip show, it was actually pretty good, and I loved the villain phone conference. That was brilliant. I feel Bryke made the best out of a bad situation, with the Nick budget cuts.

Oh, that reminds me. Screw you Nick.
 
WTF did I just watch?!

This was the most boring episode I've watched in the Avatar series, even the singing episode (ATLA Season 3, episode 2 I think) was better than this crap!

Unfunny and so cheesy...
 
To be fair having the characters narrate over the footage is probably the best way to handle a clip show.

It still sucks it had to happen, but I went in with such low expectations that I did sort of enjoy it.
 
Wu and Mako's interactions I understand. Bolin and Varrick is still awesome.

Korra and Asami on the other hand was painful. You should never have to explain things that both parties already know. That is just bad story.

If this story ends with Varrick creating a larger scale EMP and crippling Kuvira's army and Bolin being the one to ultimately defeat Kuvira. I am OK with that.
 
Ok, finally watched the other two thirds. Varricks version of the story was hilarious and would've been probably more enjoyable than the actual story.

Because duh, this is what fans have always wanted.

On a more serious note, while I do understand WHY they did a clip episode, it still doesn't entirely excuse them for choosing the content they decided to go with. They basically took some of the worst aspects of the show, and just highlighted how bad it was. I think as far as clips shows go, this was pretty mediocre. The stuff with Varrick was great. Then again, Varrick has become the best thing about this season.

Whoever took that Varrick avatar I made (I see them posting in the gaming section), you ended up making the best choice out of anyone lol

8 episodes in so it is now official that the redeeming aspect of this season is Varric and Bolin. Varric's story about Bolin made for a better show than the actual Legend of Korra. Legend of Varric (featuring Bolin) would have been a much better show and it's a shame we got stuck with korra, mako and asami.

We also got the bonus in the episode of Bolin admitting how much at fault he is and how he's running back with his tail between his legs. So it's not like he doesn't know how much at fault he is.


I skipped the rest of the episode because I don't care about Mako, and fuck a story told by Korra to Asami. That's just dumb

I would say so, I have really enjoyed the moments between Varrick and Bolin. Varrick is such an amazing character, he really needs his own spin-off. I hope they didn't cut out him talking about his childhood, only five episodes left now and still nowhere to be found.

And yeah, the first parts of the episode was dumb. Wish they didn't focus on the romance and season two parts as much as they did. Would have been better with more Varrick, everything gets better with more Varrick.

Maybe he would auction off his avatar powers to the highest bidder, he offers his services for a limited timed to restore "balance" to whoever requested it.

Nothing wrong with restoring balance if you can't make a little money out of it, that's what Varrick would say.

Yeah pretty much. I still think like, individual episodes are fine as 22 min of entertainment. But the larger context of the main plot, is really poorly executed so far. And I just, don't care? I just find it all kind of boring. And that's really scary with 5 episodes left.

As I said earlier, even divorcing this from the expectations of this being the final run of episodes in the series, I still think this is a really bizarre season in that respect. But of course, you can't ignore the fact that this IS the final run of episodes. So it does make the whole thing even more baffling.
 
Guess I'm one of the few who actually liked it. My biggest gripe with LoK is how book one and two, and to a lesser extent, book three seemed so disconnected. Doing a recap/clip episode brings all of books together, sort of. Which book four has been trying to do a lot already (Bolin with his lavabending, Toph and Korra talking about how the three previous villains all lacked balance). LoK seriously lacked coherence, and this episode applied some glue to the previous books. On top of that it gave Wu just a bit of character development, so when he ends up on the throne I'll be more ok with it. Though it's done in about five minutes so the actual development is...not that great. But still, I thought it was pretty effective. And Varrick and Bolin were great together.

I can't wait to see what happens with Kuvira and Toph next, but I quite liked this episode.
 
Hopefully shit does indeed go down for these next five episodes. They have the opportunity to make something really explosive, or end the series on a dampner.

I really hope they've been saving all the good stuff for this final stretch.

I mean at this point, I can't see the plot ever really being meaningful or being epic from a lore stand point. I don't see what they could do.

So this is pretty much just going to be a spectacle. A physical all out war (so like an action movie). And I mean, that's fine. As long as the fights are epic, and the set pieces are really breathtaking. I think I can live with that. But in terms of like Kuvira becoming more then what she is, or the plot going in a deeper direction.

I feel it's a bit too late for that. The only unknown is the spirit vine crap. I guess that COULD take things in an interesting direction. But I can't help but feel that, they will pull some stupid Kaiju shit and have Kuvira fuse with it to become a super mutant. Do not want.

You could argue that Ozai was basically that. But the entire premise of Avatar was kind of built on that. Like the world being shaped by the Fire Nation's dominance. So I think that kind of end plot made more sense (so it was both spectacle in the series finale, but it also felt like it had a huge impact because it's something that has been built up). The whole Kuvira within the earth kingdom, and taking it over....doesn't really have the same impact, especially with how they have handled it.

So best we can hope for, is we just get really really cool figths like we did with Zaheer vs Korra in the finale.

We're not so different you and I. Both in the fact we're obsessed with Dragon Age Inquisition and have opinions that usually differ by little.

But yeah. Each episode by itself, save this one, isn't entirely bad. It's entertaining enough to watch. But it's like you had this jigsaw puzzle made out of chocolate or gold or both. The individual pieces are very cool to look at. You can stay looking at each one by itself and appreciate how intricate they are.

Then you try and fit them together into the image of the deer in the forest drinking water. But WAIT! These aren't the same shapes as in the box. You then realize that your little brother Bryke took different jigsaw pieces from other places and like a total douche put them in this completely different box. Now you're here, with individually cool looking pieces, that don't amount to shit. And this was the final jigsaw puzzle of the season before you moved on to something else. It will sour your taste as a whole.

For reference purposes season 1 was a jigsaw puzzle that was perfectly ok to build together until Bryke came in and flipped the table upside down right at the end, scattering any good under the sofa and rug. Season 2 jigsaw's puzzle was just smeered with shit to begin with but you kept on building in hopes that it would come out ok at the end, but all it did at the end is that when you turned off the lights it glowed in the dark.

And season 3's jigsaw puzzle was very satisfying and almost like the manufacturing company was trying to say they were sorry. Also Bryke was grounded so he didn't fuck with your puzzle.

Well I like how it went over why I don't think Mako should ever be classified as a terrible person or a douche. I mean he may have other things wrong with him, but he is not those things.

Honestly, I'd be okay with a big spectacle, but I hope they do something out of left field. Part of me doesn't want Korra to kick Kuvira's ass, but do something else as Avatar.

It was so easy for Aang to kill Ozai at the end of ATLA, but they actually thought up something that was pretty neat right at the end. Some say it was a bit of a deus ex, but I really dug it. It really resonated with Aang's character and gave him a satisfactory resolution.

So with Korra, I hope something happens that's a little bit out there, and ends the show on a more optimistic note as far as the future of the Avatar goes. It'd be pretty disappointing if Korra just has to hulk smash some dudes to find relevance for her role as the Avatar.

Either that or they could go the other route and have Korra end the Avatar Cycle somehow. That'd be some ending.
