Got my Gamecube Adapter a few hours ago, and it feels really weird coming back to this controller. After getting used to the 3DS, Wii U Controller and the Pro controller, I had to feel out the control scheme after not touching one in a while.

To LostAnkh, I'm just doin 1v1, but I'm down to play later!
It's all good, I figured you were setting something up.

Okay...so you can't even use the Wii U GCN controller unless you also buy an adapter? WTF Nintendo? Why didn't they make this like a Pro controller? Or why not have it plug into a Wii controller like the Classic?

So Nintendo releases 10 million new GCN controllers into the wild (which I suspect were just old GCN controllers sitting in a warehouse somewhere that they slapped a new logo on) and then releases a total of maybe 500 controller adapters across North America. :

It's quite frustrating. There are literally no adapters in my entire city, they were all sold out by 9am this morning when I phoned around. So bad!

I bet I won't be able to use a GCN controller on this game until Jan or Feb. :( If they would let us use more than 1 Wii U pad on a system (not even the middle screen, just as a controller!) then it would be okay, but they won't. Arg!

Making it a wireless accessory would defeat the whole purpose, plus making it plug into a wiimote would mean a new plug in, which would again defeat the point of using your controllers lying around. And you'd need 1 wiimote for each controller, instead of one adapter for 4 controllers. Really the adapter is by far the best solution. Sucks they're scarce though.

I'm free now if you still want to play.

Probably so people can use their existing GC controllers

Oh I totally agree with having an adapter for old controllers! But I mean why aren't the new ones wireless? It doesn't make any sense.

Predownloaded the game. Went to Walmart last night to pick up an adapter. They've never heard of it. I go home and play some with the game pad, but I keep messing up my shield and grab. I make custom controls and go back in. Much better, but I'm used to an upward placement of the C stick. So I go to best buy in the morning to pick up my preordered Pokemon and hope they have an adapter there. They do. Tons of them. My son picks out 2 amiibo (Mario and Link) and we check out. I get home and every tilt attack launches me into the air. Time for more custom controls. Now I am a tilt god!

The main reason they made gamecube controllers an option for this mode was for the competitive scene, which requires controllers that directly plug into console for minimal interference.

Also if the "new" GC controllers were wireless or essentially WUPCs, they would cost twice as much :P

As for having ones that plug into your Wiimote, those already exist!

That need could still be met with the adapters and existing GCN controllers though, but I see your point. It's cheaper for Nintendo to just repackage old unsold controllers than make new ones.

But that still doesn't explain why they appear to have hand-made a total of 10-20 adapters for launch. :p

I set custom controls but they're still not going into effect when I play matches. What am I doing wrong?

You have to make sure that the custom profile is enabled for that user. Once you select your character, hit the 'Player (X)' then select the profile you changed.

It took me a few tries to figure this out, it isn't communicated well at all. You have to do this for every new set of matches. Not ideal.

I have no idea what's happening.

Physical disc. My game crashes EVERY time it tries to load something related to Trophies. The game runs fine otherwise; when I go to look at trophies, buy them, etc., I get a disc read error.

I have never had this happen. Ever.

Faulty disc?

So does anyone want to 1v1? NNID is NamikazeBurst.
Right here! I'll send you a friend request.

100% agree, there should have been way more available at launch.

FINALLY, home sweet home!

Starting the game right now, can't contain my hype!!!! :D

If anyone want to add me for future fights my NNID is Seik666

EDIT: Oh and I just ordered the soundtrack, yay!

Just got home from work to find my Smash bundle waiting for me. :)

Melee's adventure mode is one of the worst modes the series has ever had. SSE especially for people who wanted to unlock things literally took care of a large chunk of unlocks. SSE also gave us one of the best modes so far in Boss Battles as opposed to these glorified Stage hazards that are called Bosses now. SSE was better than Melee's adventure mode in just about every way. Melee's adventure mode might as well have been a bare bones version of Smash Run without the time limit.

Disagree in every way. Me and all my friends who loved the series were so hyped for Brawl and Subspace seemed like it would be amazing. I would take the fun quality 20 minute Melee Adventure mode over the 5 hour bore of Subspace any day.

So Gamestop screwed me over with the Gamecube Controller adapter. All I have is the wii pad and my 3ds.

Is there no way to use the 3ds as a controller for anything other than local smash? It seems like it won't let you use the 3ds for other modes or online play...

I just spent an hour with a few of my Amiibos and I still don't understand their purpose. I've been using them as opponents. They "level up" really fast, and they are really bad at the game at first. They don't seem any different than just regular CPU players, except I have the hassle of tapping them on the game pad occasionally. They could have easily implemented this feature without the figurines. Sure, I could theoretically take them to my friend's house, but what is the point of that, since I can't control them or even use them to store my custom moveset?

Is the main draw to use them on my team? Feed them equipment and make them uber so I can team stomp my opponents? It just feels like a $14 toy statue so far.

OK, I can't find the picture anymore, but someone posted a photo of their game, along with some preorder goodies. Amongst those things was a red beanie with the Smash Bros logo on it.

Anyone has that and is willing to sell it to me? (Or knows where I can get one?) I wear a lot of beanies and would love to have one to show off my love for the game with it :)

I've searched eBay, but there's nothing on there :(

for glory mode is pretty hilarious so far

that "win one game and run away" mentality
It really is annoying when people assume leaving = running away. There are many reasons for people to leave after one match, win or lose. Don't presume you know why they are doing what they do.

No luck finding a standalone adapter yet, probably should have preordered. Gonna get some smash in then probably try a few more stores and hope to get lucky.

Yep. I don't have a lot of time for online play these days, so I sneak them in when I can.

Cool. Brand new Wii U and Pro controller. Gamepad and controller aren't charging. Can't setup the Wii U. Several friends coming over.

Thanks Nintendo!

So is there a database up of active players' NNIDs yet? Or should I just drop mine here and pick up other peoples'?

NNID: Giever

I promise not to leave quickly, no matter how many losses I take! My current W/L will attest to that. x_x
