I just can't help myself, I'm going to get a Wii U. I need this game, all this hype is getting to me!

Streamed the game for around 8 hours at launch last night and thought I'd pop by to give my impressions and offer a tournament tonight.

First off if you want to be in a tournament tonight (1v1, no items, custom moves allowed, no equipment) then be at my channel around 11:55pm EST (or just over 4 hours from now).

Impressions wise: Holy shit this is so much better than the 3DS version. Not having to use the circle pad is GREAT, that being said I'm not sure these Gamecube controllers are all they are hyped up to be. I hate the shoulder buttons, you have to press them too far, and the controller is overall LOUD. *CLICK CLICK CLACK*

Amiibos are cool if you just want a figure, but the functionality is even less than I thought. Amiibos level quite fast, we were able to get one up to level 41 easily just by doing some 2v2's with it as a partner. This whole "they learn from you" seems kind of "made up bullshit" because they just seem to get a bit more difficult on the way. In comparison, I feel like level 9 CPUs don't do as well as they did in the 3DS version. So *puts on tinfoil hat* it feels like level 50 Amiibos are the real level 9 CPUs and level 9 CPUs are nerfed. /tinfoil hat

The lack of Amiibo use online is a HUGE letdown for me. Having the ability to battle my figurines vs friends and viewers or run tournaments with them would have been awesome.

Also, too much water, 7.8/10

Got the last adapter in town, along with Mario and Yoshi amiibo. Lol I've never even played Smash Bros, but I have a WiiU and old GC controllers so I got the digital version.

I think the CPU's are as hard in this game as in the 3ds version, but the better control's of the WiiU version makes them easier.

Ha. I went to my best buy. Plenty there. Saw a mom and her two kids checking it out. Guess it'll be their Christmas gift or something

Haha, awesome.

So this is probably a stupid question, but is there going to be a GAF tournament/what are people doing to play with each other in this thread? Just adding people off the spreadsheet? I just added my name to the list.

Cheers.

I can't tell you guys how many coins I've lost and how many matches I've lost due to forgetting to pic my custom layout. This is so fucking annoying is there any way to default it?

I bought this game today. Got four of these Amiibo figures and a gamecube controller. I've played a little of Brawl but nothing else in the Smash series. Where's a good place to start. Training?

I'm also a newcomer, so I'll tell you what I am doing.

First, I've played a bit with most of the characters to see if I find any of them particularly fun to play. I'm not a big Earthbound fan, but I ended up liking Ness a lot. His moves are fun, he is a cool character, pretty fast... ok, I've chosen Ness.

Then I went to the SSB Brawl section in Gamefaqs:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/wii/928518-super-smash-bros-brawl/faqs

See the "Characters FAQs" section? I chose one of the FAQs on Ness:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/wii/928518-super-smash-bros-brawl/faqs/52877

Man, theses FAQs are fantastic... I've started reading about Ness basic moves, and there are so many strategies and interesting uses for each one of them! I'm still a terrible player, but now I at least know the logic behind some of the moves, and I'm training to use them properly.

I've also started using the spectator mode. You can choose to watch replays including your favorite character, so I'm studying some Ness fights so i can learn a thing or two.

I guess that's a pretty good way to start.

yo damn, the glory of heracles arrangement is way different than i expected, lol

Anyways, what music have you guys found that we didn't know about before? So far, I got Gusty Garden (we figured it would be here but y'know), Tunnel Scene from X-scape (different than Brawl's from X) and "Core Luge", which I figure is from Wii Fit, though I lost it in Crazy Orders.

PRO: This game is so fucking fun.

CON: I suck so much online. I can't even land a hit on folks. It's like they can predict whatever I do :(.

Ugh, how do you get better at Smash? I'm nowhere near what I used to be against actual human players.

My ID is Narett. I'm always down for games.

Why does holding Up then pressing jump and A initiate an up-smash?

Also, I'm having an 8-Player Smash tournament at my house tonight! So excited!

I am new to Super Smash Bros. Really liking the game but I fell off the stage so many times, even when I try to up smash and get away. Also its sometimes so difficult to grab an item thats on the floor, even if its next to you lol... some characters just run past though them and when I try to pick them up my char just executes a normal attack.

Check for a friend request.

Fight the amiibos... I made a monster by making Fox a level 50

All I have are the game pad and Wiimote + Nunchuck.

How playable is the game with either of these two?

jebus. you should get 2 lives for all star mode.

way too easy to die from bullshit like the thief dude in the new super mario stage.

Some Gaffers may know this, and I cannot find the answer anywhere online... and I'm at work so I can't fiddle with it yet.

BUT! Can you play with a combination of online and offline players? IE: 7 local and 1 online?

It's a bit of a pipe dream, but worth looking into.

online is 4 player max. 2 local vs 2 online.

i could be wrong with the 4p max.
