Fighting Games Weekly | Nov 17-23 | Settle it in Smash

Getting hit by Carmine's like getting hit by a footdive. It sucks.

And Eltnum's fun. I really liked how the character turned out in UNIEL.

Everyone loves the scumbag characters they play and hates the scumbag characters they don't play. Gordeau can go die in a tire fire, regardless. :V I really do think French Bread screwed up designing that character, and it's not even because he's so overpowering... it's just that he can do pretty much everything and there is no way (short of cutting off resources) to get him to not flip coins all day for profit. It's a rare instance where I think a character needs to be nerfed, and it would really be that he just needs to be designed to not have so many goddamn options.

I'm just naturally drawn to "master of all" types. They're tricky things to get right though - too weak and they become jacks of all trades which is just not the same, but a smidge too much and they're just way too much. The ideal implementation is still overpowered, but by only a small bit. It's a razor thin margin to hit that though.

The only characters in UNIEL I hate are Vatista and Eltnum.

Vat makes me feel stupid at times.

Eltnum is just fucking annoying.

Eltnum would be my #2 choice. Those stagger strings <3

Vatista I hate because her appearance and VA are just sickening. Goddamn "guruguruu" grinds my ears so much it's unreal.

TBH I am not all too sure but I'm pretty sure Nanase is not one of the chars to fall into that not viable spot. The console characters are heavily underdeveloped and a lot of scrubs would rather whine about her than actually critically look into the game. All it takes is one popular twitter monster to be a scrub and the entire anime community believes some horse shit.

100% truth

After playing for a couple of hours the engine changes to DI/Vectoring in Smash 4 are pretty noticeable. Getting lots of kills at percents much lower than usual and I'm connecting some combos more often than before.

Yeah that's me.

I don't think Nanase's all that bad where she's not viable.

She struggles in a lot of matchups though, but those are mostly matchups everyone struggles with.

Congrats Max!

I think the Smash hype may be getting to me. I don't have anyone to play with locally really, but if the online is solid like what most people are reporting I might bite. Outside of like a couple of hours I've never played any of the previous games really. Still bummed that Subspace got cut (that's the only reason I touched Brawl), but there's apparently no end of unlockable single-player stuff to do. Hmm.

It's funny, though -- I feel like they already got that archetype with Eltnum (except in UNIEL she does have a point of emphasis in that her blockstrings are crazy good, I love it) and she's annoying strong as it is.

I do think the console characters are underdeveloped, but from the limited time I spent playing Nanase she just seems bad. I know they wanted to make a simple character, but it feels like French Bread just forgot to give her anything.

Also, speaking of Nanase, yet apropos of nothing.

Thanks much for the kind words, folks.

Been desperately trying to continue Assist Me MVC3 and start that show where I review old shitty fighting games with Benny, but stuff keeps happening!

Now NA is getting the Xrd demo? Maybe I should just buy a HRAP V4.

Edit: Oh you mean the demo would be out on the day that I would get the stick delivered too? This seems to be making things really easy.

Alioune played Nanase a lot when the game came out and I remember him saying the character was viable in most of the matchups and that she was good. I played him too and he had nasty mixups and big combos... Basically hey slide sword special is horrible to deal with when she has vorpal since she can make it safe on block and close the distance this way very fast.

Bedman corner pressure.

... I'll just wait for the game to come out.

It may be because Sony wants the PS4 pushed more? I don't think ArcSys ever made an official comment on it but it probably has to do with them pushing the next-gen version.

Despite that they've said that the two versions are to perform identically, just with a difference in resolution IIRC.

EDIT: Sorry if my previous post offended you. I was trying to be funny (and failed).

Hehehe

Edit: Those matches are amazing

Yeah I could see his deja vu stuff being difficult to counter online, not due to connection but just because a lot of people probably won't know what to do against it.

Are there any notable May players? So far I've only found people who seem to just be picking the character up.
