Super Smash Bros. for Wii U |OT| True Potential of Smash Bros.

This game is a blast online. After all the other AAA games had disaster launches, I was skeptical of Nintendo being able to pull it off, but man, they did.

Having my best success online with Pikachu and OG Samus. I'm super rusty though.

Apologies but I am a WII U noob...

I just bought a Wii U for smash bros, and I do not use the gamepad to play the game (I use gamecube controllers). I am wondering if I can turn off the display on the Wii U gamepad. Is this possible?
You can, but there isn't much point to it. The game pad is still powered on and consuming battery. It literally just turns off the LCD panel. It's easier to just leave the game pad on the charging stand and forget about it.

Leveling amiibo is surprisingly fun, used the 5 I bought with myself in 8 player smash with two random ai opponents. First couple of matches I won no sweat with my amiibo coming in all manner of last place, however after only 4 fights they were holding there own and my Kirby amiibo even won a match. The only problem I'm finding is I'm a very aggressive player especially with my edge guarding... so having 1-5 very aggressive amiibo jumping after me when they smash me is making me work much harder then normal lol.

So Retro Studios change their cover image on their facebook page, something quite unusual since they barely update it...

Then looking at the comments...

Note the " ;) " at the end of their comment. Bah probably means nothing and I'm just being paranoid hhoho.
Dixie Kong DLC confirmed!

In all seriousness, has anyone found any unlockable Mega Man music? I don't want to know what precisely if there is, just that it exists.

Had to turn my Wii U off. I was getting so mad. I don't want to break this GCN controller after just getting it out the bundle. Jesus I have issues.

I hope there is Bubbleman or Flashman track since they're not in the medleys.... Or maybe that's too much music from MM2 idk.

Are level 50 amiibos actually challenging? My Samus is only just starting to put up a fight at level 22

I think it depends on the enviroment in which they play IE if you train your amiibo with items in 8 player smash from level 1 to 50 and then challenge it one on one no items it won't do as well as an amiibo trained from level 1-50 in one on one no items will struggle in 4-8 player smash with items as it's not used to fighting with them.

I too get this feeling sometimes, lol. I've been playing Smash for 13 years and I still get trounced

I suck at this game so much, and yet I love it so much. I can't believe how good these stages look. If you told me this was a PS4 game I would believe you. Amazing art and music.

Eh it was a sweep. I used to be better than this and now I'm straight garbage.

I'm having the same exact problem, if it helps at all. I was good at 64 and Melee and awesome at Brawl, but I'm just garbage at 3DS and Wii U. Somehow I'm utterly predictable and have the hardest time successfully landing attacks on people while they have absolutely no problem hitting me with pretty much anything they want, and and I just get steamrolled most of the time. It's incredibly frustrating, but I still love the game, so...

After unlocking the Enguarde & Winky trophies, I realize that they must have been created from scratch, given that those two animal buddies haven't been in the recent DKC games that we're developed by Retro Studios.

Ok, I have no idea what I'm doing and I'm am pretty sure I suck at this game BAD, but I'm jumping online.

Is their a lobby system/GAF room?

Has anyone else noticed that the masterpieces have brutal input lag? Was wondering if it's my TV somehow, but smash itself feels fine. I was doing worse than o have been on 3DS though...

Guys, I've been playing 2D fighting games all my life and started playing them competitively in local tourneys.

I was never into Smash coz I never owned a Nintendo console, but since I played PSABR (and I know it was shit but I still liked it), I've been jonesing for Smash, and after watching the documentary I want to play it even more.

But I am hesitant about making a Wii U purchase just for this game. The critical reception has been GDLK, but I wanna know if the regular smash community or professional players think this is a balanced, competitive game. I don't exactly know what was wrong in Brawl, so can someone shed some light about the competitive life of this game and how's it looking so far?

I was nice in Melee but Brawl I only played alone or with more casual folks.

I don't get it. It's like folks know my moves before I can do anything and I end up frustrated. I don't know how to read people.

Ok soooo I knew this game was gonna be good but it has exceeded my hype. Not only does it look fantastic it plays like a dream. Training Amiibos is actually kinda fun, had a great moment where my newborn samus amiibo taunted me like a champ after I accidentally fell to my death. Played some classic mode and loved it. The new set up is pretty great. Also jumped online and had a blast. Only played 1v1 but it was damn smooth 90% of the time. A few hiccups but nothing major at all. Very satisfied. Well back to playing.

If you dont want to feel like you're incredibly weak at Smash, just play 4p matches and fun with the game. Smash isnt just all 1 v 1 no items, so if you arent enjoying that, dont force yourself.

Love this game.

Is there anywhere on GAF to get NNIDs?

The opening post of the thread has the list.

So is the ethernet adapter a must for this, or are you guys doing wi-fi? I'm currently using wi-fi and have had some decent matches, while others were just complete slideshow-levels lag.

I play on Wifi. Matches are 50/50 lagfests for me.

I think I'll get the ethernet adapter.
