this is weird ..but I think i've become a C-Sticker with this smash game o___o

Never before in Melee or Brawl did I EVER liked or USED the Gamecube C-Stick

but ..something about using it in this game is making me like using it

maybe it's because of the amount of times wonderful 101 trained me to use the 2nd stick lol

Had a lot of fun on For Glory. Did well, realized i wasn't accruing stats under my name. Updated name and of course got my ass handed to me for a while.

Zelda's down b is pretty useless as far as i can figure but that electric heel and the attack on her up b can be dangerous. Good times.

I'm looking and seem unable to find a bracket mode like melee had. Is there any word on that? Maybe a patch?

Currently sitting at 422 songs. What was the number in the Direct? 437? I guess it's plausible that's the final number, but it'd mean a decent number of Brawl music cuts...

Come across anything new and exciting so far? or are we just hitting up the remaining Brawl tracks in which case I should just be expecting some of that DK Barrel Blast as opposed to anything actually interesting .

I created a monster. My Gonzales Mario Amiibo is now a heavy fighter who taunts after KO'ing. They were not kidding when they said the Amiibos learn your fighting style.

So why exactly don't people like smash tour?
Played it for the first time and it was fun.
I assume it is just due to trying to power through the unlocks causing frustration with how "long" the mode takes.

I tried it and it was fine with me. I'll play it just as much as play Smash Run, maybe once every couple play sessions.

Played from 5pm to 3.30am last night. Yeah, this game is good.

I love how you can keep playing with the same crew in For Glory. Makes that "one more match" mentality all that easier.

I need to get some games in with GAFers today.

It's mostly Brawl tracks and rips, a lot of the unlockable arrangements are from Challenges. There are some occasional new arrangements, though. I mean, nothing super exciting yet, but they're neat.

also i honestly haven't even found the barrel blast track yet, lol

So it seems one of the big rewards or reason to keep playing is unlocking custom stat boosting materials. Does anyone really care about these?

I think it would have been cooler, more incentivising if there were alternate costumes for unlocks or something universally appreciatable like that. All the modes in the game are handing out custom materials as rewards, and playing with customization isn't even allowed in for glory, or for fun.

It's more that you're playing the board game itself more than you are actual matches because the matches themselves are 1 minute affairs which is hardly enough for most that are used to matches being 5-10 minutes with stocks or otherwise. Also, (I haven't played smash tour yet but I will be today so this is a big assumption on my part) the board game itself doesn't have a lot of strategy or depth and is more just chaos than Mario Party is.

In Mario Party, it has an amazing balance of making the board game appealing and the mini-games aren't as in-depth as Smash's core gameplay so that them being as short as they are doesn't leave you wanting to play the mini-games more than the board game. The board game is where the meat is at, it's not just chaos and luck -- there's strategy involved and the strategy is the main bulk of the fun in Mario Party. It's what ruins friendships! But in Smash Tour, it doesn't look like there's any real strategy to be made other than "which direction should I go and watch what happens on the screen with little to no explanation as to what happened and the sensory overload that just occurred on-screen."

Different strokes for different folks and all but I don't play Smash to play a chaotic board game where matches are won by luck or are simply too short. Having an unlockable tied to the mode isn't helping it either, though. I play Smash to play matches that are in-depth and have some sense of time investment, Smash matches to me aren't supposed to be short mini-games.

Man, the controls are hard to get used to on the gamepad. Not sure I can afford an adapter and a GameCube controller right now, though :(

Pretty much what I expected, ah well.
I knock that Barrel Blast track but you know, I kinda hope it's still here to help break up the monotony of that one theme on the Kong stages.
Be sure to inform us all when you unlock "Eddie, let me go back to my home".

Is it just me or is Zero Suit Samus awesome?

I mean, I liked her quite a bit in Brawl, but she feels considerably improved.

Sheik seems to be marginally improved from Brawl, but still far from her Melee glory days, sadly. She was my favorite ever.

...I think Doc Louis looked a lot better in the 3DS version. On Wii U, he looks like he just smelled something nasty.

. . . Are you serious? Look at his lips in the 3DS version. Looks like a racist version of the Wii U version

Can anyone tell me if I'm missing something crucial with the way this game stores settings?

I was playing a bit last night and jumping around the various modes. I decided I needed to change the default controls (I'm just using the gamepad). I set up a name for myself and customized things to my liking, and understood I had to change that name for each mode... but the thing I don't understand is, why the heck doesn't it stay selected with my name/controls preferences when I hop out and back in again? It became quickly infuriating and tedious. Am I just not seeing an option somewhere?

It is, which is why I customized my controls on the gamepad, made R the grab and ZR the shiled so it makes waaayy more sense, Im also just way to accustomed to the GCN controller for smash so I switched the special moves to Y instead of B cause I just actually hit Y on instinct

There is quite a bit of strategy involved in Smash Tour. It may take some time to get it though, so you may just be doing some random shit before you understand what you're doing. And maybe you will never get it, which is fine.

And there is luck involved as well. The way the trophies are implemented similarly to Mario Party's items. And in the end, the player with the most skill can win, or the player with the most luck, but I've found the better player usually wins.

It's just a different way of playing that adds some randomness or takes a bit of control away from you regarding who you play as and what stat boosts you get.

Sorry if this has been asked but I only have a gamepad, is it good enough or do I need to buy a pro controller? (I'm not buying a gc controller)

Zero suit's quickly become one of my favorite characters. She's so much fun to play.

I did the same. Game pad is very comfortable now.

ZSS was my main in Brawl and continues to be here. That whip of hers devastates all my friends in local comp. she's even more awesome now that her final smash doesn't transform her into suit Samus.

I wanted to like ZSS in Brawl, but just didn't like a lot of her moves. She much better now and one of my mains.

Zero Suit Samus went from "being there" to one of my most picked characters. The rocket kicks buffs did her justice. :lol

Crossposting some impressions and thoughts/early tech for Pit mains:

I've missed so much shit playing Smash today. Urley™ impressions:

- Game is gorgeous.
- As much as I recognize that it isn't Melee nor does it try to emulate it in any way, I'm having a lot of fun.
- Pit is the new Marth. They buffed this character's range so much and he has some pretty legit setups, tools for strong read plays and followups.
- Marth is strictly for character loyalists at this point.
- Wii U stages >>>>>>>>>>>> 3DS stages
- I'm drowning in content and extra modes
- I still feel like the game's pace is great until you go into the air unless you're playing Greninja (who despite being nerfed is still fucking potent)
- Fighting a competent Little Mac is the litmus test for how long a person learning a game can go on being bodied before they either get it or leave the game for long periods of time.
- Rosalina is bae

Current squad (in order of usage): Pit, Greninja, Marth, Zero Suit Samus, Rosalina

I've been finding a lot of success in a number of different situations with the character. I don't have any specific new things I'm doing so much as I'm able to finally improvise better for the Smash 4 style of play.

- Learn shield dancing. (Basically run forward a bit until you can hold a shield and cancel your forward run, then do the same backwards. Vary the distance traveled and play patient until someone rushes you)
- Retreating/Out of Shield f-tilts are stupidly good and it's hilarious how off guard you can catch people with this.
- (A fade away) Uair is amazing at catching people who air dodge first thing whenever they're in the air
- While you don't want to overdo it with Upperdash Arm (side special), it is extremely good to catch people slipping, especially roll happy folks
- At certain percentages, down throw - short hop uair - fast fall - land - fair - fair - fair is a real string and can carry opponents near full screen away. Down throw - short hop fair - fast fall (the second hit) - regrab is also another pretty cool variant for multi throw mixups
- Nair is wonderful as another means to start the above, but it's also really good for creating situations to test someone's patience/air movement habits. You can also space it somewhat to test shields/shield pressure someone with the last hit. It always puts you at advantage if it makes contact properly. One of my new things to do is to do two nairs then a third option between crouch tilt (low hits for people who want to run in with grabs out of range), a third nair (by the third one, everyone's ready to run forward, so just get a freebie combo out of it! :D) or Upperdash Arm if they have high percents (this requires the hardest of reads, but it's so Goddamned satisfying)
- Down Smash > Up Smash > Forward Smash in terms of how often I get KOs. All of Pit's smashes were buffed in knockback but I feel like down smash just has the right combination of reach and surprise to seal the deal in some matchups.
- Palutena's Bow got nerfed (no more arrow loops :( I miss those) but it's still great when used sparingly. It's no longer about outright denying recoveries so much as tacking on some percent . Whereas before I'd say Pit was a jack of all trades between his blades and bow, I'd say now he plays more of a spacing game with the bow there for hassling.

Character matchups said:
Now then, I don't know if you have much experience with it, but can you or anyone else please tell me how to neutralize Mario? I hate that character so damn much. He gets away with murder just because everyone things "oh he has stubby normals." Between Project M and Smash 4 I'd almost never want to play another Mario game just because of how my brother uses the character. Literally feels like a PR Rog style Wolverine with how many fast high priority buttons get put out and he never lets up. And then he has the cape which never fails to put the fear of God into me.

Shulk is another character that's extremely annoying to fight against, just because he's boring to look at animation wise with gimmicks out the ass and a bigger Marth fair.

Re: Playing on Palutena's Temple said:
Unlocking Dark Pit with Peach was hilarious. Either he got smacked and rebounded off of some new part of the area we'd never seen before or I got put into f-smash - up smash loops as I teched off of the small corridor near the bottom left of the stage only to get f-tilted and die.

Never. Again.

Palutena's Temple exists only as a Omega Mode variant.

Have you looked in the mirror lately? Lips are pink.

The WiiU Doc looks like a lifeless corpse.
Maybe we notice it more on his character because he's more human looking than anime Mac and the rest of the cast.
