What kind of controller layouts do you guys use on the pro controller?

A = attack
B = special
Y, L, R = grab
X = jump
ZL, ZR = shield

I know some people like to switch the attack buttons to B and Y but I find it convenient to keep the tip of my thumb on X for jump, and then rock between A and B to use moves

That ethernet adapter needs to get here post haste, I want to play some online matches :(

Just tried playing online for the first time...holy shit it's an unplayable mess. I didn't realize they made ethernet adapters for wii u but it looks like I'm going to need one.

Can you guys recommend a brand? I checked amazon and there seems to be a lot of different ones out there.

So is this game melee good, was disappointed in brawl

It's an entirely different beast of it's own. Doesn't try to be Melee or Brawl, really. For what it's worth though, as someone that was disappointed with Brawl, I'm really enjoying this version a lot.

I use the default Pro controller layout, but switch around the grab and shield buttons. ZR and ZL feel so much more natural for rolling than the shoulder buttons. Really surprised at how well it plays with the Pro controller, overall.

I'm loving this game. Went with a pro controller instead of the GameCube. Not regretting that decision.

I'm using ZL and ZR for shield and L and R for grab. Got use to the scheme in 3DS. Working pretty well.

So do you turn off up on left analog for jump? If so do most people? I'm a real noob in Smash.

Just want to chime in to say that For Fun 2v2 worked nearly flawlessly on my wifi, budget internet setup last night. I don't live in a crowded area, so signal interference isn't an issue.

I'm very impressed because any sort of 4 player shenanigans played like shit on 3DS.

Also, add me! I was too absorbed with the stage creator and Crazy Orders last night to play with friends, but my NNID is Dimmle, as on GAF.

WHY is Nintendo so backwards?! I just got a Wii U for Smash and is there really no way to completely turn off the Wii U pad if Im already playing with just the gamecube controller?

Also, is there any to make the game remember the costume you picked last? 3ds version would always remember the costume you last used.

It's not Melee nor does it attempt to be but it feels great and has room to grow for high level play.

I always found Melee to be a bit too fast paced and "hardcore" and Brawl to be the opposite and just way too floaty and "casual". Smash 4 feels like a nice balance of the two, it reminds me of Smash 64 almost, just a nice balance.

seems about right :lol

I don't although a lot of people do. I think if you want to "get good" you should turn it off. I'm pretty casual myself.

Zero Suit Samus went from "being there" to one of my most picked characters. The rocket kicks buffs did her justice. :lol

Crossposting some impressions and thoughts/early tech for Pit mains:

Just wanted to thank you for this. I want to use Dark Pit better so I'll work on this!

Anyone else find it odd the "press start" screen has no music, and there is no sound, or sound transition to this screen at all? Is it just my game/console or something?

Smash Tour is fun, though I think it is more engaging with friends to play against. Luck pretty much is what will make you win or lose things, and the AI loves to screw me over with that one trophy that makes an opponent at 100% for battle.

EDIT: Cool, I'll add you heroman.

EDIT EDIT: Haha, I was on MobileGAF and kept editing at just the wrong time. I'm going to go do 1v1 with FLuxWave, but thanks!

Just played my first ranked match and can't believe I won, it was so intense. My main issue right now is that I don't want to put any time in with other characters because I'm really only comfortable with Kirby.

Is there a way to view player records? I only played one For Glory match but didn't see it.

Man, Marth just ain't the same anymore. Still might use him every now and again, but man. Guess it'll be Ness and Sonic for the time being for me, lol.

Played a few matches online. As someone that could never find a stable connection in Smash 3DS, let alone Brawl, the four or so matches I've played in 1v1 For Glory have been great. Not flawless, but way better than expected, especially since I'm on a wireless connection at the moment. Color me impressed.

Can anyone tell me if I'm missing something crucial with the way this game stores settings?

I was playing a bit last night and jumping around the various modes. I decided I needed to change the default controls (I'm just using the gamepad). I set up a name for myself and customized things to my liking, and understood I had to change that name for each mode... but the thing I don't understand is, why the heck doesn't it stay selected with my name/controls preferences when I hop out and back in again? It became quickly infuriating and tedious. Am I just not seeing an option somewhere?

Quoting myself for bump purposes.
Anyone?

Start short jumping at it'll rise even more

Yeah, short hops are way more useful than full jumps the vast majority of the time. Honestly I feel like Smash controls would be better of short hops were the "default" jump and you had to intentionally hold the button longer for a full jump, instead of having to press it quickly to short hop.

It did seem like the short hop window was longer on the 3DS though (haven't had the chance to play it on Wii U yet so I'm not sure how it is there).

Revven actually made some pretty good points to me about leaving it on. I've been playing with it enabled and I'm still struggling, but I'll probably stick with it.

so uh

has anyone found the super sonic racing cd

it's probably the song i don't have that i'm most concerned about, lol. cutting all sonic r music would be a travesty greater than abridging the dk rap.

Hey guys, anybody up for some match? For Glory matches for me have been silky smooth so far, just want try if it'll be the same against you guys. NNID is my username.

The graphics are amazing! I've seen countless screen shots and countless videos of it, but it really looks like something else in motion on a big TV. Wow.

SMH, my friend's list is full. Why is this even a thing? I feel like sometimes the in game listings of friends is handled a bit better than the base OS' method of communicating and organizing them. :lol

Samus is okay to play as a zoner, but Link or Toon Link would be better. You also have Robin as another option as a zoner. Samus really sorta... got nerfed as a zoner because her missiles don't cancel on landing anymore and they're much too laggy to really be used to control any amount of space. Meanwhile Link and Toon Link can throw bombs constantly and use the boomerangs to harass people. The main difference between Link and TL is their speed so... you'll have to figure out who you like better from that.
Ya, I had some trouble against a few links last night, getting out zoned hard.

Samus homing missile slows down like crazy, and it's hard to find time to fully charge her shot.

I played mega man a bit too and he seems like a natural choice for zoning style as well. Thanks for the advice tho man. Much appreciated

I really like the Pro controller. It's responsive and durable and I don't have any issue with the button placements.

Best of all, it's comfortable.
Good to hear. I think I'll stick with my plan to get the stand alone and invest in a Pro Controller rather than get the adapter. Also clicky digital shoulder buttons seem preferable for shield and grab for this game. Honestly, the bundle only saves you £7 and I wouldn't be surprised if it goes down in price later when it doesn't get supported for other games.

Yea lol.

Wish games would have in-game friends as well as system wide friends.
